Seeking Truth...

in a Sea of Lies

Open Thread Image.jpg

Has every war started with a lie? All the US wars in my lifetime were justified by lies... the Gulf of Tonkin and the Vietnam war, WMD's and the Iraq war, the Maidan Coup in 2014 and the Ukraine proxy war, just to mention a few of the wars provoked by lies. What about the Russiagate hoax whose effect continue to this day? Then there's all the lies about the pandemic, from the real risks to the dangers associated with experimental gene therapies to the suppression of effective inexpensive treatments. While we're discussing health let's not forget the lies surrounding recommended foods and the dietary food pyramid. Since the current food pyramid was released in the 1980's obesity has more than doubled. The lies go on and on...

Perhaps it is the nature of the brain that explains the ease with which we as a species are deluded. Dr Iain McGilchrist: We are living in a deluded world, A fascinating 40 minute talk followed by 30 minutes of questions. Well worth the time!
From the left-brain right-brain divide to the metaphysics of magic, Dr Iain McGilchrist addresses the profound questions of living well. The esteemed thinker was in conversation with Freddie Sayers at the UnHerd Club on 20th April 2023. This was the most thought provoking discussion I heard this week.

We also have to look at our history to understand our present. Last week I featured the first part of this conversation with Michael Hudson, Debt and the Collapse of Antiquity. Here's part 2.

In part two, Michael Hudson discusses his new book "The Collapse of Antiquity." Hudson challenges the traditional beliefs about the fall of the Roman Empire, arguing that it was caused by a financial crisis brought on by excessive debt, wealth inequality, and the concentration of economic power. Hudson draws parallels to modern-day economies and highlights the dangers of financialization and wealth concentration.
He ties economic systems with the development of western religion

Well we can't change the physiology of our brains, nor as individuals alter the economic system, but we can control what we eat and maximize our health. There are lots of opinions about the best approach, many of them driven by the food industry and big pharma.
Why Dietary Guidelines are Making us Fat (50 min)

What underlies the war on fat? It’s big business, wanting us all to eat more refined carbs and sugar to replace the fat calories that we’ve been instructed to reduce. And I can think of no one who has done more to open our eyes to this ongoing travesty than Nina Teicholz.
Nina Teicholz is an investigative science journalist and leader in nutrition reporting who is challenging the conventional wisdom on dietary fat–particularly, whether saturated fat causes heart disease and whether fat really makes you fat. The New York Times bestselling author of The Big Fat Surprise. Teicholz also serves as Executive Director of The Nutrition Coalition, an independent non-profit group that promotes evidence-based nutrition policy. She is one of a new generation of researchers arguing that diets lower in carbohydrates are a scientifically sound approach for reversing nutrition-related diseases.
For more than half a century, we’ve been told to eat a diet high in grains, low in fat, saturated fat (and cholesterol), but the last two decades of research have led a growing number of scientists to conclude that this diet, despite being rigorously tested, could never be shown to prevent any kind of disease.
Teicholz’s work also explains why this diet has remained official policy for so long: the roles played by crusading scientists, the food industry, and more. The story is as much about politics as it is about science, and Nina Teicholz’s research ultimately confirms that the traditional foods we were told to abandon (meat, cheese, eggs, butter) are safe, and even good for health.
Nina Teicholz has been called “The Rachel Carson of the nutrition movement.” Her book has been called a “must read” by some of the most prestigious medical journals in the world, including The Lancet, The BMJ, and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. In speaking about Nina, the immediate past-president of the World Heart Federation, said at the Davos Cardiology Update Davos (2017) “She shook up the nutrition world, but she was right.”

Prof. Tim Noakes - Ultimate Diet (2 min)
Prof. Tim Noakes has published more than 750 scientific books and articles. He has been cited more than 16 000 times in scientific literature, has an H-index of 71 and has been rated an A1 scientist by the National Research Foundation of South Africa for a second 5-year term. He has won numerous awards over the years and is considered one of the best critical minds of our time.

Let's continue on the theme of eating for health...
Dr. Ken Berry: Lies My Doctor Told Me (from 2019) - 50 min

Dr. Ken Berry is a practicing board-certified physician, an Amazon Best Selling author, and a passionate advocate of health on his YouTube channel where he has over 300,000 subscribers. Along with his online presence, he is active in his own community of Camden Tennessee where he has been practicing at The Berry Clinic since 2003. Dr. Berry is known for his direct, no-nonsense approach to health and wellness.

There's also issues with prescription drugs and our health. Some of the industries most profitable drugs are statins. Aseem thinks it is over prescribed and not very effective.

He continues the conversation Unmasking Big Pharma's Control Over Research (7 min)

No wonder we're so unhealthy in the US, and have a decreasing life expectancy. The irony is TPTB want to use our failing health as a means of control. Have you seen the power grab over at the Gates controlled WHO?
The WHO Pandemic Treaty will change EVERYTHING (223 min)

British MP Andrew Bridgen is trying to warn us about the World Health Organization's pandemic treaty that will erase all government and sovereignty as we know it. Do any politicians care? This will literally give government power to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other wealthy donors vested in experimental medicine. He calls for a referendum vote on the matter but no one else seems to be alarmed.

Terrific interview with Andrew by John Campbell (36 min) Well worth a listen.
Where are the US politicians like Andrew? We sure need some.
I guess we had Ron Johnson's hearing.

UKRAINE TAIWAN What's Next| Brian Berletic | Cyrus Janssen | Alex Reporterfy

The Taiwan question is complex and often tense, particularly when it comes to the attempt of Taiwan's independence. Recently, tensions have escalated even further as news about the military exchanges between Taiwan and NATO since 2018. China has warned that it will take necessary steps to prevent Taiwan from being a member of NATO, including military intervention if necessary. The settlement of the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people themselves, and any attempt to separate Taiwan from China is doomed to failure. The recent Ukraine situation continues to drag on.

Brian was also on Danny Haiphong's show this week. (18 min)
The Collective West Has LOST the Long War with Russia and China

Brian Berletic and Danny Haiphong discuss how the Collective West's plan to subdue Russia and China in Ukraine and beyond have failed miserably.

Vijay Prashad - The War in Ukraine & the Cold War with China (1 hour)
We talk with historian, journalist and author Vijay Prashad about the geopolitical context of the Cold War with China. We also talk about recent developments related to the war in Ukraine, which include the Pentagon leaks and NATO's assurances that Ukraine will become a member. Finally, we look at the mainstream media story about the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline and compare it to the story by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh.

Zelensky is FINISHED and Biden knows it | Redacted with Natali and Clayton Morris (15 min)
President Biden is preparing for the eventuality that Ukraine’s “spring counteroffensive” is not the victory they’ve sold to the American people. This was the plan to re-take land that is now part of Russia, namely Crimea and the Donbass region. The President has been telling the American people that continued financial support in Ukraine is necessary for Ukraine to “win” but recently leaked documents show that the administration knows that this is all smoke. They are lying about the extent of U.S. involvement and they are selling us a failed storybook ending, [according to Politico]
Will this help or hurt his re-election ambitions? We look at how Libya was not the quick win that Hillary Clinton had hoped it would be for her 2016 election.

Dems & GOP & News Media ALL WANT WAR With China! (15 min)

On one issue most Democrats and Republicans agree: we need to get tough with China. And that’s why a bipartisan group of Congressmen and Congresswomen came together recently to “game out” how a war with China over Taiwan would unfold — cheered on of course by our war-loving mainstream media. Aaron Maté and Kurt Metzger discuss the beautiful way Democrats and Republicans can come together over the prospect of killing people far away.

Blessed are the Truth-tellers, for they shall be persecuted and prosecuted.

British legal analyst Alexander Mercouris joined U.S. constitutional lawyer Bruce Afran on CN Live
! to discuss Afran’s Consortium News article on how the charges against Julian Assange breach the U.S. constitution.

Reporter Kevin Gosztola and Aaron Mate' discuss Julian's situation, but when he compares Evan Gershkovich, the jailed journalist (and suspected CIA associate) caught with arms manufacturing documents in his hands, I see no comparison with Julian's situation.

Matt Taibbi Reacts to Dems' Prison Threat

Full interview here.
Matt also spoke at the Buckley Institute this week.

It's Daniel Ellsberg Week! Truth teller extraordinaire.

The purpose of the commemoration is to celebrate the life’s work of Daniel Ellsberg, to take action in support of whistleblowers and peacemakers, and to call on state and local governments around the country to honor the spirit of difficult truth-telling with a commemorative week from April 24–30.
Ellsberg has been hauled off to jail for civil disobedience against war over 80 times. He offers chilling clarity about “the nuclear war planners, of which I was one, who have written plans to kill billions of people,” calling it “a conspiracy to commit omnicide, near omnicide, the death of everyone.” He asks us, “Can humanity survive the nuclear era? We don’t know. I choose to act as if we have a chance.”

Singer, civil rights leader and devoted activist Harry Belafonte has died at 96. Belafonte was a “real one,” as evidenced by a 2005 event where he spoke eloquently about his friendship with Martin Luther King jr. and the fear that Democrats would co-opt the language of the civil rights movement while abandoning the cause itself — and who was right there with him on stage but Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Aaron, Jimmy and Kurt talk about Belafonte’s legacy and whether we will ever see his kind again.

Sy Hersh spoke with Aaron this week
How Incredibly Sad U.S. News Media Has Become – Seymour Hersh
During 50+ years as an investigative journalist and frequently award winning reporter Seymour Hersh says he has personally witnessed the steady decline of the American press. Now the collapse is nearly complete, he says, and papers like the New York Times and Washington Post are shells of their former selves that he wouldn’t even approach with a major scoop. Aaron Maté and Kurt Metzger talk with Hersh about how reporters now often prioritize being on TV and podcasts than doing actual reporting.

Chris Hedges is another realist reporter. Here he discusses RFK,Jr's run in the democratic party.

Chris Hedges ANALYZES Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 2024 (Interview Clip) - 10 min
I agree with Chris that pushing the American myth is a mistake, but calling out the CIA, war machine, corporate-government collusion, big pharma, and more is encouraging to me. Now I seriously doubt TPTB will allow such talk and discussion, but some of it will seep out...I hope. At this point putting faith in our failed system seems useless from the start, but perhaps a bit of light will shine and discussion promoted. We'll see.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's visit to the UN Headquarters in New York was filled with surprise statements and call-outs. During his statement at the UN Security Council meeting on effective multilateralism and defending the principles of the organization's Charter, Lavrov called out Western countries for taking it upon themselves to speak on behalf of the world.

Mike also discusses the story...

He recommends this article which you'll have to run it through a translate program/app.

Of course the big story of the week revolves around Tucker Carlson. Aaron and Max do a good job discussing the situation. End of the Tucker era
In the first 10-15 minutes, Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate discuss the ouster of Fox's Tucker Carlson and what it means for US antiwar politics.

seek truth2.jpg

Truth is a moving target...as we age and have different experiences, as we realize our mistakes, as we observe and learn from others, and so on. There are very few absolutes other than physical laws, and even those can be challenged by new truths and analysis. This is the nature of science, changing our assumptions as evidence changes. The problem we have with spreading truth is the power of a captured media machine. The MSM give wings to the old adage, "A lie travels around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes". This is one of the best aspects of our C99 community. Many eyes on a situation provide more data for us to better understand what is going on in the world. We've tackled many topics over the years, and looking back we've done a pretty good job winnowing out truth about situations from politics to health. A big shout out to JtC for creating this safe haven for honest discussion and fact based analysis. If you can spare a few bucks, you might show him a little love.

We'll go out with a word from Chris of Peak Prosperity.

In an awkward exchange, the congresswoman skittishly requests that Wallander consider notifying congress prior to striking Russia and starting WW3. Wallander smirks and gives some sort of smugly bureaucratic non-response in what I can only characterize as a bizarro-world satiric scene from something out of Dr. Strangelove.

The reason this absurd scene had me gobsmacked is because of how it gives a frighteningly eye-opening look behind the walls of power, and freights us with the realization that we are being led by actual craven, juvenile, and low-intelligence man-children and woman-children. The fact that the congresswoman has to remind the smarmy technocrat that the constitution in fact forbids their starting WW3 without congressional approval, and the fact that the congresswoman appears to have this milquetoast, servile whipped-dog mien to her entire exchange, is truly frightening. It seemed to me more like the congresswoman was asking the deep-state technocrat for permission, rather than vice versa. These are supposed to be the people representing ‘us’, yet they are cravenly cowed before a bunch of unelected technocrats who are playing not only with our lives, but with the fate of the entire world.

And consider the fact that this congresswoman, Ms. Jacobs, is a sitting member of the HASC committee responsible with the budgetary oversight of the DOD, which means she, like every member of these select military committees, is supposed to have the highest level clearance. Yet here she is asking Wallander about a story she read in the newspaper whose ramifications verge on WW3? How is a sitting member of a DOD oversight committee only just hearing about U.S.’s plans of assassinating Wagner commanders in a newspaper report about the leaks? Why is she and every other such committee member not already fully apprised of what the secret compartmentalized, unelected quadrants of the government are doing behind not only the taxpayers’ backs, but apparently behind the congress’s own back?

Thanks for another volume packed WW, LO. After a brief cold spell thru

guy, well-intended, agree w many of his points, but wow is he depressing. In 10 min, a near complete laundry list of all the evils and ills our country has perpetrated, though he forgot to note the environment, our terrible healthcare system and horrendous health outcomes, and how our gov't is largely run by the MIC, moneyed interests, along with 5-6 unelected-for-life ideological tyrants in robes supposedly looking for the Original Intent of the Framers in a 230-yo document.

I get the feeling Chris is one of those Glass Half-Empty types.

And it's wildly naive of him to think that RFK Jr can run on Chris's proposed I Hate America platform of endless negatives about the country he seeks to lead. Makes me wonder, is there any possible other candidate out there quite good enough for him? His truth-telling heroes Cornell West and Noam Chomsky both endorsed/voted for Biden in 2020 as the lesser evil/get rid of Trump, and his former boss Ralph Nader, who maxed out at a modest but crucial 2.7% in 2000, appears to be done running.

Similar negative notes on RFK Jr were sounded by a normally balanced and reliable indy blogger who complained about how difficult it was to listen to him bc of his "shot vocal cords". And if he had been around during FDR, he might have complained that the guy was difficult to watch bc he couldn't stand up on his own due to his "shot legs".

Diet: I'm skeptical of a heavily meat-and-dairy diet. Unbalanced and bad for the environment too. But I am a firm believer in the Edgar Cayce dietary recommendations from the first half of the 20thC which have stood the test of time, which I've followed for most of the past 22 yrs. Strong on fresh fruits and veggies, seafood and fowl; no pork; very small occasional lean red meat or beef gelatin powder supplement; daily salad; plenty of fresh water; several daily servings of diluted Concord grape juice (helps re-train body cells and subdue cravings for sweet or starchy food). 80% of calories should be from alkaline-reacting foods like veggies and many fruits, to create a slightly=alkaline situation in body. Works for me.

Opinions are my own. I welcome competing points of view.

I will be watching some vids this afternoon, fer shure.
I only watch tv when traveling. I have been noticing ads and shows, and runways, featuring plus-size actors and actresses. A quick search about fat being a new, cool thing, schooled me that fatphobia, fat shaming, and claiming fat is unhealthy, is bad. Fat has nothing to do with high cholesterol, blood pressure, or heart disease. Silly me.
The illegal who shot 5 neighbors near Cleveland, Texas, is running loose in my part of the world. I have prepared deeds for numerous conveyances over in Trail's End subdivision. I knew it was very badly developed, very unorganized, very cheap lots, but had no idea it had become some haven for illegals. I have now learned cops won't even answer 911 calls and go in there.
After hard rains and a tornado touching down a few miles away, we are forecast to have wonderful weather this week.
Hope all is well on your homestead, and that your garden grows.

It's a privilege to read your weekly treasure chest of shared perspectives, so expertly curated and displayed. I sometimes imagine that you cultivate your weekly essays as if it was an extension of your own garden, with everything mindfully arranged in a particular order, The path features familiar favorites who hold together the larger themes, which are interspersed with bright blooms of breaking news and other features. In places, the path twists and turns, and there are cul-de-sacs of special interest marked with the time required to view. I love that feature; it tells your visitors that you are an aware guide. There are shady places to linger and contemplate one's reaction or response to the blend of brand-new developments. This virtual garden path has become the crossroad of this website, where visitors can listen to insights from knowledgable people, who are willing to share. They can tune in to the narratives of observers who are witnesses to the historic truths emerging around them. It's a place for safe discussions.

For me, the Weekly Watch is a good set up to follow the serious challenges we face. I like to conjure outcomes that will provide long-term benefits in the lives of the People — over and above any benefits funneled to the power-brokers, the security devils, the financiers, and the rulers of the State. Everywhere one turns these days, there are small and large choices that must be made by mindful people. The right choices lead to progress for all of humanity — some immediate and some in the future. It's that benefit that tells you if you are making the right choice. Sometimes it requires highly enlightened negotiations to define what the real choices are. That is why China's Xi Jinping has been talking with Ukraine's leader. Xi Jinping is often describes as a calm and kind person. He appears to be a truly enlightened leader, which is a very rare gift to a nation. About a month ago, he wrote a serious treatise to provide a framework for a peaceful and harmonious end to the war in Ukraine. That's what Enlightened people do. They work to make a better world through shared goals and consensus. The West rejected it. That's how you know it must have been a very worthwhile document. A week before he wrote that, Xi wrote an extremely important treatise on bringing an immediate peace to the world that would provide great benefits to all people. News of this is has been strictly suppressed in the West because of the Spy Balloon. That's when Xi stopped accepting phone calls from President Biden. Nonethelsss, the world suddenly changed. Peace came abruptly to Saudi Arabia and Iran. Peace is taking hold between Turkey and Syria, and in Yemen. BRICS has Southern Star pointing the way toward development and trade, free of imperial predators..

In a recent press conference in China, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Mao Ning, explained the collaboration for peace between China and Ukraine:

Mao Ning:

On the afternoon of April 26, President Xi Jinping spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the phone at the invitation of the latter. The two leaders exchanged views on China-Ukraine relations and the Ukraine crisis.

President Xi noted that China-Ukraine relations, after 31 years of development, have reached a level of strategic partnership, boosting development and revitalization of the two countries. President Xi commended President Zelenskyy for stating, on multiple occasions, the importance he attaches to developing the bilateral relationship and advancing cooperation with China, China’s readiness to develop relations with Ukraine is consistent and clear-cut. No matter how the international situation evolves, China will work with Ukraine to advance mutually beneficial cooperation. China’s position on the issue, in a nutshell, is to promote talks for peace.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a responsible major country, China would not sit idly by, nor would it add oil to the fire, still less exploit the situation for self gains. Everything China does is aboveboard. Dialogue and negotiation are the only viable way forward. There is no winner in nuclear wars. On the nuclear issue, all relevant parties must stay calm and exercise restraint, truly act in the interests of their own future and that of humanity, and jointly manage the crisis. With rational thinking and voices now on the rise, it is important to seize the opportunity and build up favorable conditions for the political settlement of the crisis. It is hoped that all parties would seriously reflect on the Ukraine crisis and jointly explore ways to bring lasting peace and security to Europe through dialogue. China will continue to facilitate talks for peace and make its efforts for early ceasefire and restoration of peace.

Since the full escalation of the Ukraine crisis, China has been speaking out for peace and facilitating talks for peace, as the world can see. China will send the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs to Ukraine and other countries to have in-depth communication with all parties on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. China has sent multiple batches of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and will keep providing help to the best of its ability.

President Zelenskyy congratulated President Xi on his re-election and commended China for its remarkable achievements. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Xi, China will successfully address various challenges and continue to move forward. China upholds the purposes and principles of the UN Charter in international affairs and has significant influence on the international stage.

The Ukrainian side is committed to the one-China policy, and hopes to advance all-round bilateral cooperation with China, open up a new chapter in Ukraine-China relations, and jointly safeguard world peace and stability. President Zelenskyy shared his views on the current state of the Ukraine crisis. He thanked China for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and welcomed China’s important role in restoring peace and seeking diplomatic solution to the crisis.

I think the hardest truth for people to accept is that justice and accountability are not necessarily on the same path that leads to a secure and peaceful future for humankind. The rule of law and retribution is not the solution to large complex conflicts. The focus must be on negotiating a peaceful solution that also directly benefits the People and improves lives. These benefits help reenforce peaceful solutions. This is one of the many choices we need to get right. The great philosophers and spiritual leaders could never successfully sell the anti-revenge message to the public.

Anyway, thank you again for The Weekly Watch.

@Pluto's Republic

I enjoy your contribution on the site too. We have many thoughtful people in our little community. I'm glad you're one of them.

China's peace mongering is upsetting the US business model of stirring up trouble and selling weapons to everyone. That's a good thing.

Thanks again for coming by and sharing your thoughts!

“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Years ago I picked up a book called Good Calories, Bad Calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health by Gary Taubes. Not a how-to-book but an exploration on the history of dieting and the science around it. He is also a science writer and seems to have made the same points as Nina Teicholz. Unfortunately just read the first parts and got too busy to finish it. From the parts I read and his previous works, there has been a lot of poor research which got evelated by grifters, industry and media looking for headlines.

If memory serves earlier he had previously investigated the mythologies around exercise and the losing of weight, performance, health. It seems that definitely the "sports industry" was pushing ideas about exercise to basically sell product, clothes, etc.

He's taught me much...like Nina in the clip up top.
He usually speaks at low carb down under.
I didn't mention what I think is the most powerful free health hack we have...fasting.
Jason Fung was my tutor and Dr Mindy is a good guide too...especially for women.

Be well!
