Looking for the Exit

Open Thread image.jpg

As we've discussed many times, the US system is broken. The government has been captured and the pols are owned by corporate oligarchs and do their bidding, not the people's business. Is there a way out of this situation? Similarly, the US is creating endless war with arms manufacturing in about every district in America to insure compliance. Is there even a way off the war treadmill? I've been looking, but I can't find the exit.

Announcement below the fold...

I think we all need to show JtC some love for all his work creating and maintaining our community.
If you value C99, and can afford to do so, please consider a monthly donation so JtC can pay for C99.
There's a handy donation link in the upper left hand corner.
Monthly donations help him to budget and make his payments for us to have this conversation.
When I checked into the site on Friday after a long and busy week, things were wonky...old essays from past participants dominated. I thought the site might have been hacked. I dropped a pm to JtC, and within minutes had a response, and soon discovered he spent the day installing some new software. I don't know about you, but I hate formatting new stuff.
  • So, first a personal thank you from me, JtC for keeping the lights on and providing us this open platform to research, explore, and share our findings.
  • Secondly, a nudge to those who are able to put some money where your mouth is and pony up what you can.
  • Finally, I hope you'll share what you find of value here on C99 in comments below.

What put me on to the idea of exits was an interview Jimmy did with an independent running for the house as a republican in the Vermont election. He at least offered some creative ideas. One was to create district level electronic forums which would require the representatives to reflect the peoples concerns and interests based on forum polling outcomes. Another was the concept of "fluid democracy", which would allow you to give your forum vote to others who you find more qualified to make judgements on certain topics. For example on some legal issue, I might give my vote to OTC because she understands law better than me. Jimmy was skeptical, but I'm glad to entertain any ideas which might shift this system to reflect the peoples' interest. I must admit I don't think TPTB would allow such reforms to even be introduced much less voted upon.

Fake Republican Wins Vermont Republican House Primary (33 min)
Liam Madden is not your typical Republican House candidate. For one thing, the former Marine from Vermont has refused to pledge to caucus with Republicans if he wins, and the party has returned the favor but refusing to support him in his run. Yet Madden won the Republican primary and is facing a progressive Democrat in November while running against the two parties, against the oligarchy and against the sclerotic political system that squelches voices representing everyday Americans in favor of the wealthy, the powerful and the well-connected.

We can't seem to get off the war treadmill, as if we don't have enough on our plate, we're stirring the pot in Haiti and Thailand.

SO it begins, U.S. starts INVASION of Haiti with military force | Redacted with Clayton Morris

"The United States is moving forward with military missions in Haiti and Canada is considering getting involved too. The coast guard has sent ships with machine guns, which signals some kind of special, covert operation. Life in Haiti is in chaos and increasingly so by the day. Protestors are calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry and are blocking imports of critical infrastructure such as gasoline imports. Banks and grocery stores are operating on limited schedules. What is the U.S.'s interest in this? We break it down with independent journalist Dan Cohen from Uncaptured Media.

The Last Thing Haiti Needs Is Another Military Intervention

Waves of invasions have prevented the country from securing its sovereignty and have prevented its people from building dignified lives, writes Vijay Prashad.

Thailand: US-backed Opposition's Violence Intimidates Critics, Paves Way for Regime Change

The US-backed opposition in Thailand replicates in many ways the violence and intimidation the US sponsored in Ukraine from 2014 onward - just as Ukraine is meant as a proxy against Russia - a US client regime in Thailand would transform the country into a proxy against China.

An alarming incident of violence where a Thai opposition leader publicly assaulted his critic is dangerously being portrayed as "heroic" by Western-sponsored opposition media to encourage further violence and intimidation - creating the same division and destruction throughout Thai society that is currently consuming Ukraine.

Of course there's Taiwan as the US Asian Ukraine. (1.3 hours)
Taiwan: Washington's East Asian "Ukraine"

As the US wages proxy war against Russia through Ukraine, it is attempting the same process through Taiwan against China.
However, there are some major differences that make America’s hostility and encroachment on China even more dangerous including the fact that even Washington, officially, recognizes Taiwan as part of China while openly arming Taipei’s administration, encouraging separatism, and even placing US troops on what is internationally recognized as Chinese territory.
Besides military tensions, economic tensions continue to grow as China is positioned to surpass the collective West economically. The US has responded with growing lists of sanctions and coercive policies targeting not only China but Washington’s own supposed “allies.”
The Chip 4 Alliance seeks to assert US hegemony over the global semiconductor industry but is instead producing a similar backfiring effect as US and EU sanctions on Russian energy exports.

George Galloway and Gonzalo Lira discuss the Ukraine war. (23 min)

Zelensky’s troops are paying a huge blood price for the empty ground that Russia hasn’t wanted, says Gonzalo Lira from the front line.

Scott Ritter is one of my go to sources. In this clip he answers questions for two hours. Eventually there will be a topic time stamp guide below the clip.

SCOTT RITTER: Nuclear High Noon in Europe

Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern addresses recent developments in Ukraine; the sabotage bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines; and how the Germans, in particular, are likely to react. He will also provide a proper burial to the notion that Russia’s attack in Feb. was “unprovoked”.

McGovern conducted the early morning briefings of the President’s Daily Brief to President Reagan’s most senior national security advisers (1981-85). Earlier, he led the Soviet Foreign Policy Branch, and chaired National Intelligence Estimates and other inter-agency efforts. After he retired, Ray co-created Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) as a corrective to the fraud that had overtaken intelligence analysis – most blatantly before the invasion of Iraq.

VIPS Memoranda turned out to be correct (but unheeded) before Iraq and Afghanistan – correct again in exposing the Russia-gate canard. VIPS has delivered four formal Memoranda to President Biden – a couple of which seem to have had some impact, but not enough.

Dr. Nomi Prins examines the games the wealthy elites play while the 99% suffer.
Podcast and transcript.
“The World’s 10 richest men more than doubled their fortunes from $700 billion to $1.5 trillion at a rate of $15,000 per second, or $1.3 billion a day during the first two years of a pandemic that has seen the incomes of 99% of humanity fall and over 160 million more people forced into poverty.”

Then you say, “To translate that into even more sobering numbers, if these 10 men,” I guess we’re talking about Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and so forth, “if these 10 men were to lose 99.99% of their wealth tomorrow, they would still be richer than 99% of all the people on this planet.” That is a quote from Oxfam International executive director Gabriela Bucher, and continuing to quote, “They now have six times more wealth than the poorest 3.1 billion people on this earth.” They blame that wealth gap on government politics and tax structure, which is your seven books are largely about.

A Global Monetary Reset Is Here; Countries No Longer Want to Be Held Hostage, Warns Frank Giustra

Billionaire philanthropist, Frank Giustra lays out his thesis for the global monetary reset already underway. We're at the beginning of a currency war, "and I'm absolutely certain we're heading into a global monetary system reset," warns Frank Giustra, CEO of the Fiore Group. He tells Daniela Cambone, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, "have made it very clear they want an alternative to the U.S. dollar," after being held hostage by the currency for so long. Predicting that the dollar will lose its status as the world's reserve currency, Giustra says China will be victorious in its efforts to solidify a new central bank currency backed by gold. "Everybody, and I mean everybody, should own physical gold," he says when asked about the increasing privacy issues posed by technology. "I think the pivot is around the corner, the [Fed's] math doesn't make any sense," claims Giustra when asked about the rate-hike cycle currently underway for the central bank. "The Fed is trying to talk inflation and something is going to break, they've ruined the American dollar," he concludes.

I don't agree with everything said, but he is correct about the coming currency reset. A new world is coming.

Just as Wall Street and many others are still reveling in the world of the rising momentum of the dollar index, the voices around the world to de-dollarize or trade around the dollar are already rising, and the dollar has long lost its trusted label, and it is clear that the U.S. has had to aggressively raise interest rates and taper after the implementation of extremely loose monetary policy due to stimulating the economy leading to a big inflation, and these only target the needs of their own economy without considering the spillover effects when will overdraw the credit and status of the dollar, forcing the world to think about the role of the dollar, so the phase of resetting the dollar as the main reserve currency has already begun just from this point, and at this juncture, the nearest to the dollar printing machine has issued a warning.

Now that the dollar's dominance has existed for more than a hundred years, it is indisputable that both the dollar's share of international reserves and the use of international payments are now declining, a sign of the erosion of outside confidence in the dollar, which is becoming clearer against the backdrop of the butterfly effect of global de-dollarization expected to intensify, and the dollar is on its way to the end.

U.S. financial crisis! Japan, Saudi Arabia and Europe sanction the dollar at the same time!

Aliens will save us?
And to finish with something fun, a movie much like "The Day the Earth Stood Still" where aliens help save Earth from itself...
The 27th Day REMASTERED | Full Movie | Gene Barry | Valerie French | George Voskovec 1957

Five people from five different nations suddenly find themselves on an alien spaceship where they are each given a container holding capsules. Every person has been given the power over life and death. Any of these individuals can instantaneously launch the capsules to whatever coordinates they choose and each capsule will then eradicate all human life within a 3,000 mile radius of its designated location. What will they choose?

Perhaps it would take aliens to provide an exit ramp from the warlike nature of so many humans.

I did some work on this essay and did something I've not done in a long time, I forgot to save the edits. However, I managed to get most of the improvements re-inserted. That's why the time stamp reads last night instead of this morning. All's well that ends well.

I want to start the comments with a "What I appreciate about C99." and the answer is You. I've learned so much over the years from this community. News that slips through or is blocked by the MSM is here. If I miss the EB in the evenings, I at least scan it in the morning. Thanks to many of you, my understanding of China has grown by leaps and bounds. Global geopolitics is well discussed in this community by many insightful members. But wait there's more...I love the nature posts too, gardening, birds, photos and so on. I also enjoy the personal stories and feel I've gotten to know many of you over the years. I miss many members who literally passed on, or simply passed out of sight as their lives evolve.

So I value your information and stories, insights into these weird times, and introduction to many new sources of world happenings. Thanks to all those who have been here all along, and welcome to those who are just coming on board.

Remember if you're able to do so, kick a little into the kitty to keep the community alive and well.

was enough to ruin my morning. The USA can’t back down, and Russia won’t. Someone is going to run back to their pickup for their shotgun, after getting their nose bloodied, and unload both barrels at point blank range.

The USA has steadfastly refused to avow a no first strike nuclear policy, and has already twice needlessly demonstrated their atomic prowess on civilian populations. Russia has steadfastly declared their commitment to a no first strike nuclear policy. They have a defensive advantage with advanced anti ballistic missile technology as well as hypersonic conventional (non-nuclear) ballistic missiles, that appear to be able to completely evade NATO anti missile defenses.

Who’s going to be reaching for their (nuclear) shotgun first?

That's my guess anyway. Kinda interesting all the UFO releases of late however.

'Vice' reports that buried deep in a report relating to the budget that governs America's clandestine services are two startling claims. The first is that , “cross-domain transmedium threats to the United States national security are expanding exponentially.” . According to the Pentagon, a "cross-domain transmedium" threat is one that is capable of moving from water to air to space in ways we cannot comprehend. In July, the Pentagon opened the, All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), to investigate these mysterious threats. The second claim in the report is a desire to distinguish between UFOs that are human in origin and those that are something else. Temporary nonattributed objects, or those that are positively identified as man-made after analysis, will be passed to appropriate offices and should not be considered under the definition as unidentified aerospace-undersea phenomena, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, via 'Vice'. 'Vice' points out that the admissions come as more information regarding the U.S. government's study of UFOs has been dragged into the public spotlight. Previously, politicians had always stopped short of claiming that the unidentified objects were extraterrestrial or extradimensional in origin. This implies that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee believe (on a unanimous, bipartisan basis) that some UFOs have non-human origins, Marik von Rennenkampff, Former Department of Defense official, via 'The Hill'. After all, why would Congress establish and task a powerful new office with investigating non-'man-made' UFOs if such objects did not exist?, Marik von Rennenkampff, Former Department of Defense official, via 'The Hill'

@Lookout . Our forecast says we may get some on Monday. We sure do need it. The drought of this summer has not been alleviated in my area.
Our weather though, is showing some signs of autumn, and that in my opinion is fabulous.

In this video A. Mercouris is more forthcoming about U.S. politics than I have heard him be before. He implies that the midterms could be an important opportunity for the U. S. voting population to weigh in on how they feel about spending billions of dollars for weaponry to be sent and used overseas. He also implies that it could help stop the seemingly unstoppable rush towards world war #3 with its attendant risk of nuclear war. I'm not sure I agree with him that voting for a particular party would help. He may be right though. It looks as if our choices are Republicans or hope the aliens save us. The problem is, the aliens could get here too late.

@Lookout might see Earth humans as a "project" that might interest them in undertaking in intellectual/moral ways. My sense of it is they would come to us in different types, good, bad and indifferent, and have almost certainly visited us in the past, as evidenced by the many worldwide impossible megalithic structures. Possibly one or two civilizations still visit today, accounting for that 5% of sightings which cannot be easily explained away.

Would they intervene if planet destroying wars were about to take place? Possible, esp if such destruction somehow affected the larger solar system/galactial situation. Otherwise they would be more likely just to observe or at most subtly influence us in very indirect ways, positive or negative, leaving us largely to work out our own problems, as in the message given at the end of that excellent movie The Day the Earth Stood Still.

Re official statements on UFOs, even if deeply buried in a sea of words, I wouldn't trust them. They likely vastly understate what is known by a few in officialdom, but also probably are meant to develop a scenario to get ppl worried about another alleged threat to their existence, the better to justify more spending on expensive weapons.

@Lookout UFO skeptic, Carl Sagan, in an early book once allowed that while he didn't believe in the contemporary alien ufo accounts, he did think it quite possible that they visited in the ancient past. That, esp for its time (60s/70s), was quite an admission for someone representing the scientific establishment, but it was an hypothesis buried deep inside a book that most ppl were unlikely to read while most of his public comments on the subject didn't stray from his present day skepticism.

@Lookout them already know, and scientific-y projects like SETI are just a cover to project an official narrative of no evidence and a continual, forever search, as they don't like the idea of informing the public about what they do know. Possibly for good reasons. See The Implications of a discovery of extraterrestrial life in the Brookings Report prepared for NASA in 1960: https://www.brookings.edu/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/space_extraterrestr...

As for officialdom, the establishment in various fields, I don't trust 'em, not on int'l affairs, not on national security matters, not on managing pandemics, vaccines and so-called alternative treatments, and so why should I trust them on the biggest enchilada of all, intelligent alien life. I think, as in other areas, there is a code of silence in place.

@Lookout the aliens' motive to reveal themselves? They probably prefer to remain in the shadows, the better to complete whatever their mission is on Earth, and possible they would consider it dangerous to land on the WH lawn, as per The Day the Earth Stood Still. Or possible they could be acting under the restrictions of a Prime Directive, preventing their direct interference in developing human civilizations.

@Lookout have their own agenda and motives, about which we are in the dark. But the fact they haven't taken over yet is a good sign. Mostly.

We are on our own in two ways -- we are left to ourselves to solve our own problems, and we are individually left to ourselves to figure out whether they are currently visiting or not. The gov't will never tell us, and official science, being mostly just an extension of gov't and in no considerable way any more independent than the medical science establishment, is going to toe the line on their marching orders. Actual independent scientific voices on this issue, or any true insider whistleblowers with real evidence, will be targeted and destroyed in various ways by the gov't. That's how it works, imo.

“cross-domain transmedium threats to the United States national security are expanding exponentially.”

I mean really

According to the Pentagon, a "cross-domain transmedium" threat is one that is capable of moving from water to air to space in ways we cannot comprehend.

And it is a threat because?? Because the moronic propaganda meisters at the polygon consider everything they don't control to be a threat, that's why. If they are a threat, why haven't they already attacked? We're pretty clearly defenseless.

@enhydra lutris @enhydra lutris hirees were all Masai Mara.
First time, my group of 4 friends plus me did a private tour, got to see and skritch the rhino in addition. We saw the stalls where the workers slept with the babies. My second visit was with a Gate 1 Travel group, and even though it was small, maybe 14 people, we only saw the babies, not that rhino or the sleeping quarters for the babies.
I have gotten word that the blind rhino died. He died happy. A rare white rhino. I have seen him, and three others, a mom and op, with baby, in the wild. I did a horseback riding safari in S. Africa. I rode right up to them, maybe 15 feet away.I was on a half-broke Appaloosa. Never knew when he would break and run. I do not recommend that for the feint of heart.

not only was Russia's back put against the wall, but the US has intentionally put its own back against the wall as well.

I'm thinking that the US can't get out of this without losing the oil peg on the petrol-dollar and its ability to run roughshod over other countries using the dollar as a weapon.

Therefore, IMHO, the war in Ukraine can be viewed as existential on both sides. If the US backs down our way of life diminishes greatly. Perhaps that's the reason that corruption has exponentially exploded the last couple of years, the greedheads are getting theirs while the getting is good.

It looks like this conflict, and those on the near horizon, may be for all the marbles, except for the so called leader of the free world who's already lost his.

As long as the man can bring in campaign money and votes, they'll keep his nootropics flowing.

But once a critical mass of his sombulant voters realize that all his campaign promises were shitcanned by his handlers — and the People got nothing — they could get restless. ....And yet, the thorough brainwashing they received in 'Party Loyalty' has them barking like dogs for 'big war'. Can human beings even come back from self betrayal that blatant?

On the other hand, the Elite and their national media operatives can instantly switch to Republican cutouts, if that's how the votes are going. As for the Neocon psychopaths and Deep Snake diplomats, they have proven to be politically agnostic.

If Americans could only get it into their heads that there is just one game being played here, and it's not about them or their well being. It's about the International insurrection that is taking place, which is a challenge to US global supremacy. The controlling Elite and the strategic Corporations are entirely focused on this and nothing else. They don't care about domestic issues or political Parties. They don't care about the faux democracy kabuki that has kept the American People bamboozled since the Industrial Revolution began. Spoiler: The People in the US will never get comprehensive health care, uncompromised justice, a complete education, basic human rights like housing, clean drinking water, or anything else from the Federal Coup Government. They can have all the guns and ammo that they can afford, but that IS IT! If the People have a problem their guns won't solve, they can take it to their State Capitol.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government — and the Congress of instant millionaires — are currently occupied and their mailbox is full.

It's impossible to be too cynical.

Now that's really a sick system.

Another little known fact...

Our clinic which focuses on holistic, naturopathic, and alternative cancer treatments conducted the largest and longest study on sugar consumption in cancer patients, and the results were stark. Previous research has shown that high blood sugar has been risky for certain types of cancer. However, those studies were either on mice or on fewer than 20 human cancer patients. This 7-year ongoing study at our clinic has involved 317 cancer patients. We asked them to avoid all sweetened foods, except for stevia-sweetened foods. Continuing to eat sugar and sugary foods made a significant difference in survival for all stages of cancer and all types of cancer. Regardless of the type of cancer or the stage, sugar avoiders had more than twice the survival (90%) of the sugar eaters (36%). We therefore have to recommend that the diet of cancer patients not contain desserts, soda or other sweets. These results were originally published in Cancer Strategies Journal, Spring 2014.

Simple solutions are not revealed, they might impact our profits.

And if you do not have cancer, NO SUGAR can keep you in that state.

Our homeless crisis has been well publicized and the busses sent to NYC carrying desperate immigrants from Texas and Florida have also made national news. The numbers are overwhelming and no solution exists.

Here is a statistic that you probably have not seen: Close to 90,000 rent stabilized apartments are empty. The landlords are expecting something huge to happen in the economy and so they are warehousing empty apartments.

Luxury condos built to make money from the construction (Trump Seniors approach) similarly sit vacant.

Office buildings in Midtown, also vacant.

Meanwhile

I can't understand the cavalier attitude that many have about a nuclear exchange. It, hands-down, ranks as being one of the stupidest beliefs ever. I would be much happier if people would instead be very very afraid of that scenario. Fear in this instance is the proper emotion. Fear can be good.

of us left alive who remember the era of aboveground testing, fallout/rainout events from same, and Duck and Cover being shown in the schools. To a lot of people today, a nuclear exchange is just CGI-like-the-movies, because they've never known anything different. It is far too easy for younger folks to simply dismiss the concerns of us old farts as just another "get off my lawn" moment.

If that comes to pass, there will be few survivors, and they will indeed envy the dead. But nobody wants to hear that. However, that was a very good article indeed, and well worth the read. Everyone should- especially those poor misguided and ill-educated wights who don't believe that nuclear weapons actually exist at all.

@usefewersyllables . TPTB seem intent on changing this planet into a hell-scape. They have been doing that for a very long time by destroying and poisoning the natural world and waging wars that destroy the lives of the hoi-polloi. Nuclear exchange is just the ultimate hell-scape.

I don't know why the younger set isn't afraid of this. I do know that many have anxiety levels off-the-charts for a whole host of other reasons. Perhaps they are so overloaded that they can't countenance one more fear, especially about something that they seemingly have no power to influence. It is an interesting question and I don't know what the answer is.

@randtntx

they have no direct knowledge of the outcome of a nuclear detonation, so there is no fear- it is just another videogame/movie thing. Poof, boom, smoke, start a new game or change the channel.... It isn't real for them, not *at all*.

The DOE put out a series of monographs showing the deposition of fallout for every county in each state in the CONUS as a result of aboveground testing at the Nevada Test Site 1951-1970. I used to have the one for my old home county, but lost it in the fire. They are still available as PDFs, though. We had one major snowout event after a shot in 1961 that gave us a major dose, and all us kids were still out playing in it as if nothing was going on. We always made snow ice cream out of big snows... I lost 6 classmates (out of my less-than-100 class) to leukemia before graduation, and there aren't very many left of us at all at this point.

And these were one bang at a time. It'll be a great deal more unpleasant when it is several thousand bangs essentially all at once, most of which are orders of magnitude *bigger*, and intended by design to wreak maximum havoc. These were all little teeny things: we never tested anything in the megaton range aboveground at the NTS. That's what Bikini, Eniwetak, Rongelap, and the other Marshall Islands sites were used for. The Ivy Mike shot, for example, completely erased the island of Elugelab from existence, leaving behind a crater 1.9 km (6,230 ft) in diameter and 50 m (164 ft) deep. Not in my backyard, I guess.

Those monographs are a great resource for us downwinders. It wasn't just the folks in St. George, UT, who took a beating: there were hotspots scattered all over the country. Rochester, NY was a big one, and it finally became clear that they couldn't just ignore it any longer when Kodak kept losing entire batches of the very expensive film that they used for aerial surveillance. They had to start telling them in advance when there was a shot, so that they could shut down operations to prevent the film from being pre-fogged by the fallout...

We really are all downwinders- well, those of us born before 1963, anyway. But at least I'm lucky enough that I was born after the Green Run at Hanford...

It’s not just our stupid leaders who think that we can survive using nuclear weapons even on a small scale, but many of the pro Ukraine cheerleaders who think it too. They think that we have the most bad ass military and if we just go into Ukraine and show the Russians what’s what then Russia will scurry back over the border. Because of the corruption in defense industries allowed by congress our weapons are inferior to Russia’s. And probably China’s. Russia has weapons that we have no defense against. Because of our poor education system they don’t know that we haven’t won a war in centuries. We skedaddled out of Afghanistan after 20 years with nothing to show for it just like we did Vietnam. Assad is still in power in Syria and I’m betting that Iraq joins BRICS in a few years. All our wars have accomplished is that weapons makers got filthy rich as did corporations because we stole resources and left countries dealing with massive deaths and ruin.

@usefewersyllables

If that comes to pass, there will be few survivors, and they will indeed envy the dead .

Yup. I’m hoping that I live close enough to the base that I go out in the first attacks because what comes after will be a nightmare that I doubt anyone can fathom. Duck and cover left a whole generation frightened about nuclear war instead of people insisting that government find a way to make peace.

In one second after when the EMP (electric magnetic pulse) went off it fried almost every electronic device made after 1950. It didn’t talk about how many planes fell from the sky, but people who were traveling out of their states were stuck where they were. Food, gas, medicine and almost everything cities depend on suddenly stopped coming in.

The coastal cities would be screwed almost immediately, but maybe the fly over states might survive a little longer. Not the big ones.

I did wake up last night thinking about that and had a hard time getting back to sleep. Preppers won’t be allowed to keep their food for long. And the other scary thing is that who do we have in government that is trying to tell people to back the fck off with the threats? It’s obvious that they will not listen to Russia and their red lines.
