Vacaville man is blind, homeless and schizophrenic. Why can't California help him?

“I think that’s him,” Linda Privatte says as we creep down Monte Vista Avenue, looking in all the usual spots for her younger brother, James Mark Rippee, who has been living on the streets right around the Solano County Building here for 15 years now. It is Mark, kneeling beside the 7-Eleven, feeling around on the sidewalk for the debit card he keeps losing. One of the day laborers waiting in the parking lot next door thinks that we must be from the county and comes over to offer his own assessment: “Are you doing an evaluation? He decided to be this way. He decided.” A lot of us tell ourselves that as we walk on by, annoyed and alarmed, not without reason, that the number of people yelling f-bombs into traffic as they push their carts around and around just keeps growing.

There is obviously a simple solution according to our leadership. That is to send more money and weapons to Ukraine to maintain our wonderful democracy.

"He decided to be this way. He decided.”

I think it’s a kopout and just a way for people not to have any compassion for people who are house challenged. I doubt people who have mental illnesses or a addicted to drugs went to live on the streets willingly and now do it because the rules for homelessness buildings are too strict and they kick people out too early in the day. Maybe not all do but many do. And some are not safe for the vulnerable.

Denmark? just gives people apartments with no strings attached and most people have returned to the work force. Children do not make a voluntary decision to live on the streets either nor do their parents. Medical bankruptcy and loss of job.

Congress gave billions to billionaires who own lots of rental agencies and made people who needed help with their rents jump through ridiculous hoops. And once again democrats are letting millions be evicted whilst sending billions to Ukraine for more killingry. That’s what Buckminster Fuller calls in the book I’m reading as opposed to livingry.

Also those billionaires flush with cash shoveled out by congress are going to spend $50 billion buying up homes. Again. Thanks Obiden!

It is not until the tide goes out that you discover who has been swimming naked.

for homelessness - give more bombs to Ukranian Nazis.
For hunger - more bombs for Ukranian Nazis.
For mental illness - more bombs for Ukranian Nazis.

Remember, if they aren't Nazis it would be a human rights violation to help them, but if they are Nazis it is our obligation to give them all the bombs they want.

In the Land of the Blind, the one-eyed man is declared insane when he speaks of colors.

To paraphrase Jodie Foster: Human is not something to aspire to, it's something to get away from.

@on the cusp thats funny, the population of homeless residents has grown and grown. after a couple of decades of watching, I have to admit, they are survivors, not nearly as close to death's door as I assumed.
I realize that "overpopulation" is a popular catch all, but it is bullshit. not that lunatic greed wouldnt feel the same and be happy to watch undesirables die off in droves, but this is not that.

From the sound of it, I don't see how he could be worse than Gavin Noisome.

@The Liberal Moonbat this is the clearest example of what a blue paradise looks like. at least on the west coast, where things are more laid back, and indifferent. while the property merchants make their money and desperate people try to make rent.

@kelly It doesn't seem to quite follow from what I said, and seems a bit fragmentary on its own.

Bear in mind I grew up in Silicon Valley.
