Morning - I am out of town today and will write responses late this evening or tomorrow.

Traveled to the Kam Wah Chung museum this to revisit the small building that was the residence and place of business of Lung On and Doc Hay. The dry climate and record keeping habits created a time capsule of Chinese immigrant culture. Their story is reminder one does not need to travel or require a large amount of space to effect the lives of others.

It appears they sent financial support to Sun Yat-sen's Chinese Nationalist Party around the time he was working to overthrow the Qing dynasty and form a new government. Sun Yat-sen is considered the father of both mainland China and Taiwan.

Lung On was an active in multiple businesses during his lifetime. Doc Hay was the medical doctor for local residents, provided consultations to other practitioners and patient would travel from multiple states for treatment.

Doc Hay's records and Apothecary were recently visited by a delegation of Chinese scholars. Three extinct plants (not sure of the names) were found in his herb supplies. Samples have been taken back to China for analysis. His extensive medical texts appear to be unique and will be adding to the body of knowledge being systematically gathered on Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Personally my interest in Chinese medicine was sparked from discussions at family events about the doctor who had practiced in John Day, Oregon.

A section of an old flue in eastern Oregon. As a child I was fascinated by the flue carrying water from the ditch to the neighbor's field.

A couple of weeks ago a single quail decided to join the chicken flock. Have not been quick enough with the camera. Did get a picture of the antelope who joined the cattle herd a few miles down the road.

My college roommate found a peahen hanging out with her chickens. The peahen left long enough to hatch eggs and bring her brood home. Presumably, that means a neighbor has a peacock. This is in WI, so cold is an issue.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

The weather looks good for driving. Be careful and have a fun time.

Look how fast stuff happens if you're a farmer politician who "needs" young immigrants. Woohoo!
Democrats say they have deal with President Trump on young immigrants

“We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides,” Pelosi and Schumer said in a joint statement.

It was the second time in two weeks that Trump cut out Republicans to reach a deal with Pelosi and Schumer. A person briefed on the meeting, who demanded anonymity to discuss it, said the deal specifies bipartisan legislation called the DREAM Act that provides eventual citizenship for the young immigrants.

Great!

“More and more we’re trying to work things out together,” Trump explained Wednesday, calling the development a “positive thing” for both parties.

“If you look at some of the greatest legislation ever passed, it was done on a bipartisan manner. And so that’s what we’re going to give a shot,” he said.

@eyo

BOHICA alert!

Nihil stercum, amice! (No shit, my friend!)

Mr. Trump has learned the difference between Republicans and Fascists.

He is a Republican, both in name and in fact. Pelosi, Schumer and their ilk are Republicans in fact, although not in name.

And Trump has learned that he cannot work with Fascists.

Interesting times -- in the Chinese sense!

for, so you are a fitting example for us all. I have spent the better part of the last couple of months finally cutting down and removing some tall and wide yucca stumps, and at about 7 am today they came and hauled away about 7 yards of detritus from said project that I had lugged out and stacked at the curb.

Free!! Im' free, so now it is on to the next project(s). Heh.
