Another hot one here in the SE, but a chance of rain later. So much better than last year's drought.

Today is the new moon (from wiki)
it is at this moment when the Moon and the Sun have the same ecliptical longitude. The Moon is not visible at this time except when it is seen in silhouette during a solar eclipse when it is illuminated by earthshine.

Across much of the US there will be a solar eclipse in about a month August 21 at the next new moon.

Each full moon has a name based on the various tribes and cultures. This is the Green Corn moon in my world, but is also has other names...
Full Sturgeon Moon – August The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

Hope you all have a good one!

@Lookout
Personally, of all of the special named moons, I prefer the Moon of Alabama ... but not this version which I've never heard before

The Rastafarian people truly believe Haile Selassie was the second coming of Christ.....

@jbob the supernatural, anything goes. If there is a first coming, why not 2, or even 3 or 4. Haile Selassie never denied that he was Christ, even though this belief was out there while he was living, and they called him the living god.

Pokeweed can be found throughout the majority of the Continental United States but is far more prevalent in the central and eastern states of the South. It is a poisonous weed, related to nightshade, but if prepared for consumption correctly, it is actually considered a delicacy by many Southerners. In fact, in its cooked form, pokeweed is so popular that many Southern states hold yearly festivals in the early spring to commemorate it.

The cooked version of this weed is properly referred to as "poke sallet," but many are not in tune with the proper pronunciation, so it is not uncommon to hear it referred to as "poke salad." You might also see it spelled "polk salad" or "polk sallet." The "polk" spelling was popularized by a 1968 country/pop song by Tony Joe White called "Polk Salad Annie."
