Four Water Protectors Arrested Yesterday

On December 27, during a slight break in the severe ND winter, groups of water protectors went to the Highway 1806 bridge (still completely blockaded) and to Turtle Island (the burial site where people were heavily pepper-sprayed a couple of months ago).

Here's a brief video (1:50) that shows the beginning of the cops arresting people who are simply walking.

The photo below is a later image of the arrests from a distance.

Bridge footage (32 mins), shots fired by cops at around 21 mins (it seems that no one was hit)

Video of the Turtle Island action from a distance (3:15). Those are water protectors atop the hill, but you can see the police helicopter circling and the cops arriving on snowmobiles. Please remember that there should be no lights, no fencing, no razor wire around these gravesites.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

I understand there are some clients pulling out, but they are still planning to go ahead with DAPL.

The news report says Blackstone and Welch are considering buying assets from Energy Transfer Partners. One prominent asset that looks unlikely to be bought is the Dakota Access Pipeline. This already has two strategic partners lined up to buy a stake. Despite the recent delay to completion, it looks like the pipeline will get the go-ahead under the incoming Trump administration. Just a few days ago, Energy Transfer Partners filed an extension to the agreement to sell the stake, resetting the deadline to the end of March.

It will be a long struggle. Power to the protectors!

I can't find the video right now, but within the last week Kandi Mossett of IEN reiterated that they think that the Trump admin cannot simply give the go-ahead since the Environmental Impact Statement review has been initiated.

I don't know how to assess the situation, but I find hope in the growing numbers of local struggles against pipelines and other extractive industries that keep springing up and getting attention.

Thank you, Lookout, for continuing to add information in your essays and in mine.

convinced that the Water Protectors have a dedicated, knowledgeable, experienced and first class legal defense organization. It's good to see the several organizations working together on one focused goal.

Thanks again for keeping us up to date.

That is my understanding too. I just don't trust them.

RFK sounds reasonable here:

Despite the uphill battle, Kennedy said there are reasons for optimism in the fight against big oil. “The longer you can delay projects like this, the less chance they have of ever being built, because the rationale for carbon is diminishing,” he said. “The price of solar has dropped 600 percent in five years. The same thing is now happening to batteries. The rationale for liquid fuel is evaporating the same way that the rationale for coal-burning power plants. The three biggest coal companies in our country, Arch, Consol and Peabody, have all lost 95 percent of their value in two years. The markets have already realized that carbon is dead. The meteor has hit. The dinosaurs are still walking around, but they’re dead—they’re doomed. They’re trying to figure out ways to use the political system for subsidies to keep themselves alive, but American people will recognize soon that there is an odd rationale for shackling this country in carbon pipeline.”

I saw on the donor list what appeared to be small bundled donations from groups, businesses, etc.

$ 1000 is pretty big there.

Could c99 put on fundraiser with 1000(+) goal? Send it over to them.

You have talented writers who could put the comment box to good use. Maybe get LRE permission to run a small, but significant, piece . Make some friends. Does any of it work for you? Has c99 done that sort of thing ?

thx.

It's the Indians.

But the first video begins with our "hero" calling the arriving policemen "pigs".
This is before the cops have done or said anything. I know this is an ongoing thing, and these particular police
may have been id'ed as being violent. But I heard way too much "pig" back in my student days, and am still full up.

Did not think anything could make me say 'but" in this situation.

dude. Use your words.
thx.
