Quick Question for C99'ers
Submitted by Anja Geitz on Thu, 05/23/2019 - 1:20am
In Tuesday's Open Thread the subject of wine came up and I mentioned that as a crew member at Trader Joe's, we have weekly wine tastings to enhance our product knowledge. Sometimes we taste flights of wine from a particular region, or from a particular grape. Presentations typically focus on the characteristics of the wine, accents, and the background of the vineyard. I don't profess to be an expert but I have learned a few things that might be useful, and/or interesting.
So, here's the question: how many of you would be interested in a "Wine Corner" feature added to the Tuesday OT's where we could talk about different wines and the foods that pair well with them?
Thanks for your input!

Go for it, Anja.

Wine not?
Sounds like a better topic than bombs. I'll ask my wino friends what they think.

Wine
Sounds good to me. As a wine drinker would find it interesting and informative. Plus, always browsing the reds while at Trader Joe's.
Life is what you make it, so make it something worthwhile.
This ain't no dress rehearsal!
Since we had a tasting recently of Chianti
I might begin there. I was surprised how much I learned, and how much I liked it.

I’d be utterly down
with that! Love food and wine, love the art and science of winemaking. Bring it on!
I don't know too much about the science of wine making
But I look forward to your input to the discussion!

Would love to learn more.
Cheers!
Cheers to you too!

Addition
I really like the idea of having a wine discussion as a type of sidebar to your Tuesday OT.
Thanks for the feedback!

Your Tuesday OT is already great and
wine would be an excellent addition to it.
Please share what you know with the rest of us. I would enjoy reading about wines along with the wonderful recipes you share.

I'd love to know more about
I'd love to know more about wine, Anja. I enjoy it but often cannot explain why. Some wines are so complex and surprising that they defy words. It's a great idea, go for it!

Thanks Laurel,
I'm looking forward to hearing about the wines you guys love too! And since I won't know what level of wine knowledge everyone is coming in with, I'll try to mix it up with what I learn and supplement that with some basics. Like how you can tell whether a wine is more acidic, or tannic? And where do wines get either of those qualities? Along with a fun list of wine adjectives! Which I gotta tell ya, even surprised me. Chewy? Really? In a wine? How does that work? I guess we will find out together!

Somebody's gotta say it - "I never drink...wine" :-D
There is no justice. There can be no peace.
If someone had to say it
I'm glad it was you

Sounds good to me, we do our share of wine, but have some
unorthodoxies. We've been known to pair Bordeaux with hot dogs - they go well if there is no saurkraut involved.

Would be perfect timing for me Anja,
as I will be at my mom’s in 6 weeks where I do our wine shopping at Trader Joe’s. About wine and food pairing I know nothing since I tend to drink the same red wines with everything. Your tastings and knowledge might help me out of my rut. Maybe you can suggest a white wine that in combination with some foods taste more like red ; ). I look forward to giving white a second chance.
