OT WE 22 JUL 26 ~ Summertime

The loons are calling.
~
It is pretty amazing the temps range from the 50's to the 70's here during summer, but it is
Maine after all. Moderate humidity and plenty of sun and wind. No complaints there.
Had some extra time on the way up so stopped in to take a hike around the Wells, ME
wildlife area dedicated to Rachel Carson. The trail meanders thru a saltwater marsh overlooking
the distant coast with tidal streams, grasses and water fowl. The actual path was on the fringes
of a dense wooded area with mixed deciduous and pine.

Hi QMS, I'd forgotten about Janis' version. I don't remember
but she may have done another.
Way back when we had a version that was on AM rock stations.
Billy Stewart had a way of singing this I have always liked. Add to your collection.
We are cooling down at night, but there is not a cloud in the sky and a drying wind. We are in drought conditions with no relief in sight.
Going to harvest my first ears of corn, Bantam variety. Tomatoes are taking off finally, but peppers are really struggling. Pulled out the remaining Brussels Sprouts which didn't produce any little cabbages but huge leaves and lotsa tiny bugs which loved the plants.
Enjoy your Maine stay. Only visited on our honeymoon for the only time I've seen autumn colors from the ground. We started in Acadia National Park and drove across the country pulling a UHaul with our red Jeep.
The first time we came across the country from NYC to Oregon, pulling a UHaul, was in 2001. We were in Chicago across from O'Hare when the trade towers were hit. What an odd time. Nationial Guard on the locks of the Mississipi at Dubuque.

Hey Dawn
Thanks for the Billie Stewart version. Upbeat and sorta jazzy.
Vaguely remember hearing it before.
News flashes --
Hegseth put on the hot seat yesterday in congress trying to justify another $70 BLN request for the
misadventure in Iran, Also on this date Hitler surrendered in '45 and Nixon died in '94.
Foggy morning. Got the vapors going.
Hope you break the drought soon.

Hi QMS, the dog ate my first reply, so I'll try again.
ETA: Welp, the first one finally posted. Should I delete this one?
A long, long time ago our local AM stations played this version of Summertime.
It was Billy Stewart. Add this to your collection.
On our honeymoon in 2004 we started in Acadia National Park and drove across country. We stopped in Charlotte to pick up belongings after staying a year in an apartment there for Lyme treatment. We had our home in Hood River, but needed to be near a doctor who specialized in HiV and Lyme treatment.
It was the only time either of us had seen fall colors on the ground. We took the route from there through the Blue Ridge, Tennesee, Oklahoma, on over to New Mexico and the Grand Canyon. Thanksgiving dinner in Santa Fe and early December at the Grand Canyon. Stunning and beautiful route and by far my favorite way across the US.
The only other time we drove our red Jeep with a UHaul across country was in 2001, from NY to Oregon. We were across from O'Hare when the trade centers were hit. Going along the Mississippi the National Guard was present at the locks near Dubuque. What a creepy, odd time.
Thanks for Summertime.

Nah, two is better
.
The site does this kinda hiccup (among others) on occasion.
You can't really erase it anyway, so less bother to let it ride.
Plus it gives me a reason to listen to your version again!
Cheers.
Oh, BTW J.Joplin did a live version also.

Zionism is a social disease
Good morning....
Already been out and bush hogged a couple of fields. Humid but in the 70's this AM... headed to mid- 90's, so it's good to have today's mowing done.
Been working on cleaning out the barn/shop the last couple of weeks. This week plan to start on the lumber storage rack. It is a jumble as pieces are stuck in randomly where they fit after projects. The way it is makes it hard to know what I've got and what I need for new projects. That alone may take a couple of days. A buddy is helping once a week, so this is a long term project.
Maine sounds great! Have a wonderful trip, and thanks for the OT!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Good morning, Cap'n!
Gorgeous pics! Gorgeous location for a vacay! Lucky you.
Bombs are dropping in Saudi Arabia and Jordan this morning. The Jordanian King and Prince were targeted. Rubio talks up the evil of Houthis, Hezbollah, and Iran, but who has bombed a girls' school, a children's cancer treatment hospital and associated IV treatment center? A desalination plant?
High of 102F today, 89F tomorrow.
I closed out 2 more open cases, and am getting a couple more set for final hearing. Slowly, but surely, I can avoid any and all crooked judges and just prepare deeds and wills, run and play, just as you are doing right now.
Thanks for the OT, friend!

To be honest I take no pleasure in posting this as we all are
impacted by this. Thank you orange dotard!

Good morning Cap'n Q, thanks for the OT. Great pics and tunes.
Looks like a good place to hang out and kick back for a bit. Sadly, I've never been to Maine (but I kind of like the music). Our forecast for todau is a low of 65 to a high of 73, but it's already 73 at 07:30, so that's a bit off I think.
otc stole my intended musical contribution, but there's always a fallback, or plan b, as they say
In fact, thank's to Gershwin's brilliance there have to be hundreds of Jazz covers of Summertime, and I'm kind of partial to Wes:

As part of the many changes
to the treatments intended to keep my aging carcass from stroking out, my cardiologist has now put me on a new cholesterol med called Repatha, in an attempt to tame my familial hyperlipidemia (inherited from both parents, along with an inability to tolerate statins). What fun! It is an injectable, regrettably provided in a preloaded autoinjector pen.
The autoinjector requires a 3-step song and dance to arm it and actually deliver the drug. If the instructions given in the packaging are to be believed, to administer the drug, you have to grab a roll of belly fat with one hand, pull out the safety guard with another hand, press the pen down on the roll of belly fat with your third hand to prearm the shot, and push the trigger button with your fourth hand three or four times until it finally eventually decides to go off. it takes about 5lb force pressing down to prearm, and about another 3lb to get the trigger button to press- and then you have to freeze in place for 15 seconds, as the internal spring ever so slowly pushes the drug through the 24ga needle. Don't wiggle, or things get ugly.
The injection itself is painless, of course- you don't even feel a 24ga needle. But you end up looking like you have been attacked by an angry octopus, as each site ends up with a hellacious bruise from mashing the injector against the fat roll hard enough to get it to arm, and then the button multiple times to get it to go off. And, since I'm anticoagulated into haemophilia already, those bruises get *lurid*, because I leak copiously into the site for a day or two after each attack.
I don't know how they think that this is somehow better than simply providing me a vial and a bag of syringes, which I'd be perfectly happy with- I learned how to do this sort of thing in my EMT days, when my dad and I learned the art of starting IVs and administering injections by practicing on one another. That'd be a walk in the park.
Anyway, just pop this into the category of "everything old is new again". I hadn't felt the need to shoot up since the 70s, but here we are...
And the next time I get blood work done, if my cholesterol is still "too high", I'm 86ing that shit with extreme prejudice. (;-)

Good morning UFS. As we slip slide into antiquity,
the medical profession is acutely aware that we need a steady diet of challenges, both mental and physical, to stave off the ongoing degradation of our physical and mental processes. The device and procedure you refer to is obviously intended to spur you to design a gadget to retract the guard and hold in in a retracted position and envelop the injector to a degree that will allow you to mash the injector into your person by pushing on the gadget and fire the trigger by way or a pre-loaded spring, or battery operated solenoid, by way of a pinky push on some sort of button or lever. The whole thing, of course, needs to be capable of being manufactured out or craft and hobby shop materials plus various odds and ends from your local Ace Hardware using only hand tools and possibly an electric drill.
Remember, it's for your own good
be well, more or less, and have a good one
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Great point!
Although I have to say, I think the next time I administer it, I'll just use the method superbly illustrated by Gene Wilder in "Young Frankenstein", below. Just put the thumb on the trigger button, and let fly!
Seriously- this self-stick is nothing, by comparison to the medical challenges that so many of us here face on a daily basis- especially such as yourself. It was mostly intended as a semi-humorous break from my usual diet of "what-the-actual-fuck" posts, here lately. This takes me right back to chippin' smack, it does... (;-)

The loons are calling
Indeed.
I went to the short course survival school in Maine so many years ago. It wasn't summer.
I used to frequent a lake site that very much resembled you pic of the dock and raft thing. It was in Jersey. Went there for a week or two every summer. As a boy who didn't swim well yet, that raft seemed like it was a hundred yards away.
I drove the truck up to Maine once or twice probably to pick up paper. Usually I stopped at Watertown in NY.
Talked to my son on his bday. He writes for a small town paper. He takes after his maternal grandfather, who used to hunt and go sportfishing with Hemingway back in the day. The writer for the Enquirer died young, so my son never met him. When I couldn't find a "summer song" of note in Kpop world I opted for this although I don't have a written translation yet. It's called Kilimanjaro Leopard. Jo Yong-pil is the artist. It's a great song. Lyrics by Yang In-ja. Composed by Kim Hee-gap. (1985)
I liked this author's take on the story at the linkA Reflection on Hemingway’s Wayward Leopard-
The subtitles have lots of errors, but I think I turned it on. I prefer this to BTS. Got an errand. bbl. Thanks for the OT Q.

Interesting peek into Hemingway
.
and how he relates to the wayward leopard. I assume the
music is what you call KPOP. The audience seems enthralled.
Thanks for sharing this SY.

SY?
Q, do you mean the Gangnam style singer?
Too bad I can't get the subtitles in English for some reason. I'll try again. (edit) Nope won't give the English captions offsite. You have to watch it on youtube to get English captions with the auto translate function.
The crowd's reaction is great. I think a lot of Jong-pil's fans know the words to this song by heart. The song is really more of a poem performance. It's the only one he's done like that, that I know of.
