Poll: Majority of Democrats "oppose the current Democratic leaders”

It's not shocking, but it is good to see the numbers.

A new Harvard-Harris poll finds that the majority of Democrats and the overwhelming majority of young Democrats believe that the party is insufficiently to the left.
Fifty-two percent of Democrats polled say that they support “movements within the Democratic Party to take it even further to the left and oppose the current Democratic leaders.”
The strongest support for moving the party left came from young Democrats with 69% of Democrats ages 18-34 saying the support those left movements.

Note how liberals, moderates, and conservatives all support the progressive insurgency in the Democratic Party.

Allow me to rephrase the title of this essay to:

Poll: Majority of Democrats say "bite me Markos"

Meanwhile, nearly two thirds of respondents felt that the current investigations into President Donald Trump’s ties to Russia are hurting the country more than helping. Only 51% of Democrats felt the investigation was helping, with the other 49% arguing it was hurting.

Ouch! 49% of Democrats aren't buying the "OMG! Russia!"

An then the poll gets better.

The latest Harvard-Harris poll, conducted between October 14 and October 18, affirms that voters are increasingly favoring Sen. Bernie Sanders and progressivism while President Donald Trump’s favorability continues its downward spiral.
Sanders’ total favorability in this latest poll is 53 percent, and it is highest among hispanics (66 percent) and African-Americans (77 percent). His numbers dwarf other leading politicians’ on the left and right, including Hillary Clinton, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer.
...Since Trump’s election, several polls have found that Sanders is the most popular politician in the country, including previous Harvard-Harris polls conducted earlier this year. Additionally, a July 2017 Morning Consult poll and a survey conducted by Fox News in March 2017 found similar results. A July 2017 poll conducted by Public Policy Polling found that Sanders would defeat Trump by 13 percentage points if a general presidential election was held at that time.Since Trump’s election, several polls have found that Sanders is the most popular politician in the country, including previous Harvard-Harris polls conducted earlier this year. @thanatokephaloides Not a surprise. Also not a surprise that Dems are sticking with their corporately owned leaders to keep progressives from assuming control over the party. This is their cash cow and they will milk it until it runs dry.

after the 2016 elections? Just from the number of people who were purged or left ToP, the number seems pretty big using a small demographic number of people.
Many have changed to independents, but I wonder how many people like me have vote-exited?

I quit playing the voting game after 2008. I didn't even bother to vote for Bernie basically because it's Utah and I don't remember the last time it went for a democrat.

From Gallup

Here's the entire history from 2004 - present

Here's a close up from mid 2016 - present
On this version I've added some trend lines so you can see the actual effect over time.

So assuming we can trust Gallup, looks like Dems are not suffering from #DemExit although both Dem and Rep seem to have a slow, steady slide.

It looks to me like #DemExit came and went. But there's still the gradual slide for both Republicans and Democrats along with the gradual increase in Independents. Those things have little to do with #Demexit.

That and I believe that some Progs were running, some of which got in? There were quite a number of voters apparently voting down-ticket for any decent Progs/Dems but not for President, leaving that ghastly blank unfilled, which a number of people had stated they'd do in comments I'd seen.

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

@SnappleBC @SnappleBC

Well, there has been that DemEnter thing, in the attempt to take it over and crowd the corruption out. But if a decent and well-organized party with a solid progressive (edit: platform) was promoted, and especially if Bernie left to head one at a more strategic moment closer to the next Presidential election, (since he'd be immediately blacked out in the media, apart from dismissive smears,) an actual Progressive Party that people had a chance to learn about should clean up with Indies alone, along with a lot of the better-informed current Dem-voters-out-of-desperation who would follow him over, as likely would a fair number voting for Trump mainly because he was a wild card who lied nicely and they needed to keep The Mad Bomber out.

And that scenario was, I gather, also the only previous time in history that an American political party has ever been replaced, by following a populist leader from one failing to represent their interests.

However, electoral cheating and Homeland Security electoral infrastructure control remains a problem and citizens would have to step in, in demanding and supplying citizen oversight, including exit polling, every step of the way, making it clear that any suspect result will never again be left to stand as a done deal to be fixed 'next time' - as has been the case every time up until now.

@Ellen North We read that NY among several states purged voters, did not count ballots, made voting difficult, etc. The results of these elections stands and nobody gets in trouble for perverting our democracy. No wonder people do not vote.

Dems can count on an influx of disgruntled GOP neocons to boost their numbers and make up for the loss of #Demexit’ed Bernie supporters.

Max Boot:

It becomes ever harder to disagree with the verdict of foreign-policy sage Robert Kagan, like me an erstwhile Republican, who writes that the GOP in its current form is doomed and that Republicans who cannot stomach Trumpism “should change their registration and start voting for Democratic moderates and centrists, as some Republicans did in Virginia recently, to give them a leg up in their fight against the party’s left wing.” As I’ve explained before, I have my qualms about the Democratic Party, which is lurching to the left, but I am done, done, done with the GOP after more than 30 years as a loyal Republican.

This is truly Trump’s party, and that leaves me to root for Democrats to win a landslide victory in the midterm elections next fall. I have my differences with many Democratic candidates, but on the most important issue facing our nation — whether Trump is fit for office — they are right and Republicans are a disgrace.

for 25 years. That's what Chuck Schumer was taped saying during the election, that for everyone on the left they lose they pick up two moderate Republicans in the suburbs.
The reason this doesn't work anymore is that there aren't any significant numbers of moderate Republican voters anymore. They've been voting for Democrats for some time now, particularly if they are pro-choice.
Most of the elected officials are "centrists" - neoliberal/neoconservatives that are the favorite of corporate donors. There aren't many centrist voters.
So this guy can write what he wants, but there aren't enough voters in that demographic to matter. If Democratic candidates want to win, they need to move left, hard, ASAP.

As for the Democrats, the line in Snapple's graph looks like they left at the end of 2016, and then came back after the inauguration. Either that, or there was a new flood of Republican converts. Because OMG Trump!

@eyo But unfortunately, it is pretty much impossible to unseat unpopular public officials and the cadre that keeps them in power. With recent moves by Perez, Bernie supporters are being purged out of positions of influence. Back in the day after working many a primary, democrats know how to cheat, and commonly cheat, other democrats in primaries. The gop in a bizarre way, rusn clean primaries (witness Trump and Tea Baggers challengers) but instead are thee experts at cheating in the general elections.

@gjohnsit See, that's why I'll never be a Democrat again. 75% of Democrats approve of her, but only 41% of the general populace, while 57% disapproves.

I bet some of that is accounted for by Demexit, but can't be sure, of course. It would make sense that those Democrats who found her unbearable would leave the party--it's so obvious that there's no daylight at all between the Democratic party and the Clinton machine. They might as well rename it the Clinton party.

Read a piece in The Atlantic online by Molly Ball. She went with DNC folks on a recent "listening trip" in WI and elsewhere, then showed bits from the DNC report interpreting what they heard vs what she heard in the same meetups. Whitewash and more of the same from them, real concern from her. Unless and until the same old leadership is gone, there's zero chance of the Dems surviving... Which is pretty much what I thought all along. The article was quite good and they do have a limited free view policy, which is good since I am not a subscriber.
