Police State and the War OF Drugs in 21st Century Amerika

barney fife.jpg

This is flabbergasting to me. Maybe I've lost touch with what's happening around the country at our schools. I know the pigs don't do this where I live. I've got kids and grandkids, I'd know about it.

"On April 14, when the students of Worth County High School returned from spring break, they arrived at school to find a police state had taken over. The sheriff and his deputies — with no probable cause — detained and illegally searched every single child in the school, all 900 of them."

No probable cause, the pigs didn't even ask the school administration, they just did it. They waged their war OF drugs on high school kids fresh off spring break. What's worse, the "other" pigs did the same thing a few weeks earlier with the same results.

"Aside from not finding a single bit of contraband, the sheriff’s search was also entirely uncalled for as the Sylvester Police Department did a search on March 17 — just a few weeks before — and found no drugs.

But Hobby told reporters he didn’t think that search was thorough enough, so he decided to do his own. And, this time, he’d grope every student."

http://www.thedailysheeple.com/cops-detain-entire-school-illegally-searc...

Fucking fascist didn't think it was thorough enough before. The other pigs didn't find anything, this other one thought he could do better. What an asshole.

Unbelievable. I'm sitting here typing while smoking a joint, legally here in Washington State because the citizens were able to make their own decision, while kids on the other side of the country are being harassed by pigs at the place they're supposed to be receiving an education. What kind of "education" are they receiving?

Sickening. The war on drugs has actually been going on for over a century. "The first U.S. law that restricted the distribution and use of certain drugs was the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act of 1914. The first local laws came as early as 1860." In 1919 alcohol was prohibited by a constitutional amendment, later repealed by another amendment in 1933.

On October 27, 1970, Congress passed the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 which categorized controlled substances based on their medicinal use and potential for addiction. That's why the weed is illegal to this day.

President War Criminal and Overall Psychopath Richard Nixon declared "drug abuse" to be public enemy number one in 1971.

Check out this little tidbit.

"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."
- John Ehrlichman, to Dan Baum for Harper's Magazine in 1994, about President Richard Nixon's war on drugs, declared in 1971."

Then in 1973, the Drug Enforcement Administration was created to replace the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Drugs

I graduated from high school in 1973. That was also the first year I smoked marijuana. Back then, at least where I was from, cops were much more relaxed about the weed. Me and my friends were caught more than a few times with the evil herb and the cops just let us go. Sometimes they'd keep the weed, sometimes, they'd let us keep it.

Now look at us. War on terror, war on drugs, war on everyfuckingthing. Good gawd, how did we end up in this mess? Why are people so fucking stupid?

"Land of the Free and Home of the Brave"? Ya, as long as you do what the deciders have decided you must do.

The Rise of the Warrior Cop?
I have read it twice and I just borrowed it again last week. It's a great book that describes how the drug war is related to creating SWAT and the continuation of militarizing the police.
And the damned war on drugs started because Nixon needed a platform to run on.
Congress continued to erode our civil liberties because of the war and good ole friendly uncle Joe Biden was one of the worst people who let that happen.
MJ farms were the start of asset forfeiture. A farmer who had lots of acres could have his whole farm seized if anyone grew it without his knowledge. He had no way to fight back against his farm being taken from him and we have heard so many stories about cops stopping people and searching their cars without probable cause, finding no drugs but a lot of money and taking it from people.
Year after year, congress kept taking more and more of our rights from us.
Our 3rd right about the military not being able to live in people's homes is also called the Castle doctrine.
It's about how home owners are able to defend their homes from people breaking into them. But with the no knock warrants being done in the middle of the night, that has gone out the window basically.
We have read articles about how SWAT teams go to the wrong house and kill the families and their pets because they don't know what's happening and who just broke into their homes and they are holding their guns when the cops break into their homes, see a person with a weapon in their hands and then blow them away. Of course any dog is going to bark at the people who are in their homes. Poodles and other little dawgs have been killed by men in riot gear because those "brave men" are afraid for their lives.
Even if SWAT goes to the correct home the same things can happen. And there is no gawd damned reason why they have to do that in the middle of the night.
If you have the chance to read this book I recommend it.

A few years ago in my town SWAT did this and the guy who lived there was a veteran and he killed a cop. Why did they need to arrest him? His boss smelled MJ on him. And what did they find when they went into his home? Nothing. At. All.
A cop died for nothing, the guy was found guilty, sentenced to prison and was found dead in his cell. The cops had watched him come and go for 3 weeks, knew where he worked and what time of day he left his house. So why couldn't they have either knocked on his door or catch him when he left his house? Or any other time so that no one would be placed in harms way?
Oh hell no, they had their new toys they wanted to play with.
And these types of activities are happening all over the country.
All because Nixon needed a f'cking platform to run on so he could be president.
And what's more ridiculous about these types of raids that places everyone in danger is that in the state next to Utah, it's legal for people in Colorado to use it.
The cops used to stop people coming home from Wyoming or Colorado because people went there to buy liquor because it's so expensive in Utah. Now they are pulling people over and looking for pot. The dogs that smell for it are trained to give false positives.

There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by silent and gradual encroachment of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations
James Madison
And look at how much of our liberties have been taken away from us by those who swore an oath to protect our them.
(sorry if I'm rambling, I have a heinous migraine)

@Big Al I wrote about SWAT teams in an essay published under the Open Thread banner back in early 2016. There is a brief history in that essay. Radley Balko is a great source on this issue.

I'll testify it's a gun war in Sonoma County, almost every day a shooting occurs about some weed rip-off or another. Except today heroin gets a public service announcement: Spike in suspected heroin overdose deaths in Santa Rosa spurs public warning

The booming cannabis industry could be helping, but they are not. Here's a hint why

The five victims came from a range of age and social standing. The men were 28, 29 and 52 years old and the women were 27 and 66. Three — two men and one woman — were homeless. The circumstances of their deaths also varied. One died in a Starbucks bathroom

Even in Cloverdale, I am picking up used needles now when I trash pick between here and the river. 4/20 had a big party in Hopland, here's a quote:

“I believe that in this day and age, with what we already know, discounting the medicinal properties of the cannabis plant is akin to discounting antibiotics,” says Collier. Yet despite her unshakable belief in the healing properties of cannabis, Collier at times feels daunted by the challenges faced by the cannabis industry – particularly the county’s farmers, product producers and distributors.

“It’s going to take a massive amount of education to take the public to a real understanding of cannabis. There’s so much more to this plant than getting stoned. For many of us, cannabis is way more about its healing properties. Ninety percent of what ails boomer-aged adults is inflammation. Why not try something that might heal you and will help you have a good life?” Collier notes.

Because you charge $350 an ounce retail, you greedy pig, that is why.
"That's the system."

Cannabis is the last thing keeping me alive at this point, I am seeking something else less damaging to my community now. I don't know what to do. Wish I could just grow my own plant once a year, or maybe two so I could give some away free. That would pinch the douche-bags a little. Maybe. Can't wait for Jan 2018 or whenever the recreate switch gets flipped. Good luck.

Thanks for the RATM inspiration. Peace

Afghanistan. Before we invaded it the Taliban had wiped out 90% of the fields, but the CIA of course uses the drugs to fund their black ops.
Here's an article about this with lots of pictures of our troops guarding them.
IMG_1020.JPG

At the bottom of it there is an article about an oil executive testifying before congress describing how much oil there is there and his company's plans.

Mr. Maresca. Thank you, Mr. Chairman. It's nice to see you again. I am John Maresca, vice president for international relations of the Unocal Corporation. Unocal, as you know, is one of the world's leading energy resource and project development companies. I appreciate your invitation to speak here today. I believe these hearings are important and timely. I congratulate you for focusing on Central Asia oil and gas reserves and the roll they play in shaping US foreign policies.

I would like to focus today on three issues. First, the need for multiple pipeline routes for Central Asian oil and gas resources. Second, the need for U.S. support for international and regional efforts to achieve balanced and lasting political settlements to the conflicts in the region, including Afghanistan. Third, the need for structured assistance to encourage economic reforms and the development of appropriate investment climates in the region. In this regard, we specifically support repeal or removal of section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.

There are other links in it that state that the war was planned before the 9/11 attacks.
We know from Smedley Butler's book that our wars have nothing to do with the security of our country, but they are for making countries safer for the corporations.
But the American sheep still believe that the military is fighting for our freedoms and to defend our country.
I have no idea how to wake people up from their slumber and for them to see the truth!

and on it’s most vulnerable population.

I recently read a book by Ayelet Waldman, who is the partner of Michael Chabon (one of my very favourite authors) about her interesting and beneficial experience with microdosing LSD. It's also funny.

Anyway, you probably already know that LSD was not illegal until the mid 60s.

The events of the first LSD trip, now known as “Bicycle Day”, after the bicycle ride home, proved to Hofmann that he had indeed made a significant discovery: a psychoactive substance with extraordinary potency, capable of causing significant shifts of consciousness in incredibly low doses. Hofmann foresaw the drug as a powerful psychiatric tool; because of its intense and introspective nature, he couldn’t imagine anyone using it recreationally.[8] Bicycle Day is increasingly[citation needed] observed in psychedelic communities as a day to celebrate the discovery of LSD.

In one study in the late 1950s, Dr. Humphry Osmond gave LSD to alcoholics in Alcoholics Anonymous who had failed to quit drinking.[14] After one year, around 50% of the study group had not had a drink — a success rate that has never been duplicated by any other means.[15]

From the late 1940s through the mid-1970s, extensive research and testing was conducted on LSD. During a 15-year period beginning in 1950, research on LSD and other hallucinogens generated over 1,000 scientific papers, several dozen books, and six international conferences. Overall, LSD was prescribed as treatment to over 40,000 patients. Film star Cary Grant was one of many men during the 1950s and 1960s who were given LSD in concert with psychotherapy. Many psychiatrists began taking the drug recreationally and sharing it with friends. Dr. Leary's experiments (see Timothy Leary below) spread LSD usage to a much wider segment of the general populace.
Sandoz halted LSD production in August 1965 after growing governmental protests at its proliferation among the general populace.

LSD was the original centerpiece of the top secret MK-ULTRA project, an ambitious undertaking conducted from the 1950s through the 70s designed to explore the possibilities of pharmaceutical mind control.

The manipulative use of the government for the purpose of mind control is especially immoral.

In a more civilised country drugs would be legal, and there would be clinics devoted to the health care involved. People addicted would have safe access to pure (rather than adulterated or toxic varieties) and support in other benevolent ways.

What a damn shame.

@janis b thanks for that, I wonder if you know about ayahuasca? I remember seeing a docu about it, can't find it at the moment so I picked this goofy animation video:

Your Brain On Ayahuasca: The Hallucinogenic Drug

Looks like something that might help me, except the stomach reactions. I don't know because it's not allowed, I'd have to be outlaw to try, and so would the therapist. Hmph. Johnny Cannaseed should visit the U.S. and plant millions of cannabis and hemp plants, wouldn't that be great? Get plastics out of the Cannabis industry, that's what I say. Why not hemp-based? Not legal enough yet, I guess. Not even hemp. lol

What kind of person you are is an ever-unfolding story that you strive to perfect.

This sounds like a book that would be an interesting exploration into the relationship of spirituality, philosophy, self, and ‘religion’ (what guides one), within a framework of a creative practice, whether artistic or personal. Thank you for the reference.

@Strife Delivery from our first high school for weed. I graduated in 80 so this was the 70's. We had what we called the "noon goon" who cruised the parking lot for drug activity - that school was where the wealthy went and was well known for drugs, all kinds. Hell, my first week as a freshman a guy asked me point blank did I want to buy some cocaine? I imagine that was for the shock value of seeing some freshmen freak out. The day we got pinched the noon goon caught us with weed and a pipe. Of course they searched our purses, and some girl walking across the parking lot yelled out that was illegal for them to do. We did try using that but they took us right into the office and showed us the documents that said they could do it. In the long run, it was the best thing that could happen - I hated that school and was glad as hell to get out of it.

Thanks Big Al and Strife Delivery for making me curious. This is different, but same principle I think. During my time in grade-school, not saying "under god" in the Pledge of Allegiance each morning was a political thing. My mom was raised strict Catholic but I got nothin', didn't even know what god was supposed to be. She just said, "don't say it if you don't want to, just skip that part" so I always did. No one noticed or cared. ~shrug~

Nowadays, wow, what happened to student civil rights? Treated a lot like terrorists if you ask me:
School Searches and Seizure

Students have an “expectation of privacy” that applies outside and on school property. However, there are different rules for the different locations. There are also different rules based on who is doing the search and what item is being searched.

Bunch of different rules follow, because of course. Lower the voting age to 16, why not. Could help.

Here's a grown-up site on juvenile rights:
If I am stopped or detained by the police, do I have to talk to them or let them search me?
Includes: While in a car; At school; Other locations.

I am not a lawyer, not even close, I just look stuff up on the Internets it's all I can afford, Biggrin

Speaking of drugs, how much is laughing gas? Last time I called Mental Health Services, the voice robot stated "If this is an emergency, please hang up and call 911" which always gives me the Rob Hustle ear worm. I'd rather go to an emergency room too, not so trigger-happy around there. Peace.

I went out and stood at the entry to the hall and asked why and by what right they were searching our school trying to create criminals out of our kids. They said they were testing the drug dog, and had heard we had a problem. I said we don't have a problem other than their illegal search. Luckily the principal supported me and they left. The important lesson was you have to stand up to and question cops or they simply will do as they please.

Time was we had peace officers that were public servants. Now we have militarized police trying to get you into the system as fodder for the for-profit prisons.
