OT ~ Welcome to Saturday!

open thread.jpg

Sit-a-while
on swinging porch
where tin-dippers and
sweet water
in cool touches
meet lips
from hand dug wells.

Stars shine clearly through the canopy this early morning; the Little Dipper fitting neatly in an opening, Polaris guiding the way, an omen.

Quiet, no birds awake, a monotone bug sound underneath and the water sounding oceanside, foaming its way home down the mountain.

A good feeling encompasses; doggies and cat sleep again after greeting my rising; coffee's especially good as i conclude this month of house-sitting for my friend returning from Costa Rica today.

Missing this special mountain retreat already; having to sleep alone again without the pups and kitty curled up under the covers will take a small adjustment.

All good, off to the wilderness on Tuesday for a week with the big dogs, Bruno and Sadie, old companions, we sing together on occasions on the screen porch knowing that in the wild, no man can hear us. Good to be away from it all at times.

Good news and mixed news from the pulmonary clinic this week; heart pressures from the preliminary report look better than last time, Doc isn't sure why; presently evaluating the other tests applying her science, she does have a moderating concern of blood clots to be addressed next month. I'm so fortunate in having a great team at Chapel Hill caring for me and secretly, i've fallen in love with the Doc. She shared a short video of her recent wedding, a country setting and her rescue Greyhound walked down the aisle with her; about mid-way, she picks up the dog as he grew afraid, wedding dress and dog in arms and she's a tiny woman; full of spirit and knowledge, very special person.
...
Was going to play, 'here comes the judge' in music selection, but thought better of making a joke about the sad state of DC affairs; preferring instead to wallow in the dipper's light today.

“This Your Home Now,” set in a barbershop called Willie’s:

… the men I have outlived …
—though in truth I have not forgotten one of you,
may I never forget one of you—these layers of men,
arrayed in their no-longer-breathing ranks.
Willie, I have not lived well in my grief for them;
I have lugged this weight from place to place
as though it were mine to account for,
and today I sit in your good chair …

Dr Barber, we salute you! William J. Barber II, North Carolina pastor and longtime political activist, is now a MacArthur Fellow. And he marked the occasion Thursday by getting arrested at a protest. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article219483790.html

Have a great Fall day, everyone; the porch is yours ...

So glad to hear you have a good health report. Sounds wonderful to be off to the wilderness, hope you see some beautiful autumn colors.
Thanks for the music and the dog stories, nice.
It's raining here and I have a wet dog (who I don't want to sleep with) though we all smell like wet dogs now so I might as well.
Here's a few things I've been listening to lately:

Happy morning, randtntx.

Doc loves the Greyhound when i first met her, she and i shared dog stories.

Hope Texas treats you well this weekend, guess it's still hot; it's a beautiful crisp day here.

Cheers for the music, think you will enjoy this:

Happy Saturday.

Music moves like streams singing to us on c99; enjoying a plethora of pieces from many good folks. One of, if not the best, features of our community.

So far, today is splendid, great weather, my friend's arrived home and on the deck, we share stories of her recent journey and have moved on to more windows of our pasts, a good conversation.

As always, thanks for being here and sing on, my friend.

"loving to say I told you so." well, no. given the soul-shredding pessimism of most of my predictions, i'd much rather turn out to be wrong.

A little less than ten years ago, as I've mentioned here before, I adopted the following as my dPOS sig:

To put the torture behind us is, inevitably, to put it in front of us

And now here we are, about to elevate a man who embraced, supported and advocated a judicial perspective of torture that should have earned him a seat, not on the Supreme Court, but in a cell at Guantanamo. A man whose sick and twisted understanding of what it means to be a human living in a society of humans is about to become, not "merely" psychopathic advice to a chief executive, but the basis for settled constitutional law at the highest level our system of justice accommodates.

This is what we reap when we forgive and forget that which is unforgivable and unforgettable. How ironic that the first African American President, having himself no slave ancestry, sold us all -- black, white, and every shade in between -- down the river in pursuit of his "transformational presidency".

There's a phrase we used to use in meta-ironic mockery of the hysterical right, who wanted to blame Obama for everything that ever went wrong -- even things (not just policies, but specific events that were consequences of those policies) that had already happened before he took office. Sadly, it now applies without any meta at all, only the irony: Thanks, Obama.

Cheers, brother for sharing; it's painful to be an American today.

in that we've been through a bit of an emotional wringer for a couple days. I love deer, so, especially enjoyed the beautiful image you posted.

Hope your Doc will be able to treat the clots successfully. For sure, she sounds like a 'keeper.' Thanks for sharing the endearing story of her Greyhound/wedding.

If the drugs your Chapel Hill team's using are not provided (as part of the trial), you might really want to take a hard look at your 2019 plan formulary (not that you wouldn't, anyway Wink ). My understanding is that somewhere between 100-200 brand name drugs will have new generics for the upcoming plan year. And, it's up to each individual Part D plan, as to whether they drop the name brand RX from their plan, or, just add the new generic drug.

Have a nice rest-of-your-weekend!

@Unabashed Liberal

Yep, Doc is one of us.

Hugs to Mr M.

Thanks, i'm one of 314 folks across the world playing guinea pig with the only drug available to treat pulmonary hypertension; has been successful in WHO class one, but we are in class three; not sure it's not hurting as i write; maybe, maybe not. No worries. Doc's on top of it and i go once a month for a battery of tests.

Have to give Mom's special facility Humana's formulary for next year as well as look at mine, we've different Medigap company's and of course different needs. Overwhelming the costs of three drugs i take daily, astronomical, then the rest of them ain't cheep, either.

Would hate to lose the opportunity of having the drugs i've been using for five years because of profit to someone, somewhere; what a convoluted, capital system.

Still fighting bills over and above the 100 percent coverage i have with Medicare and plan F; exhausting, double-billing 'swindoggles.'

Anyways, dog people live the high-life, don't they, my friend?

Sending love and positive vibes, and as always, cheers for being here.

Comedy of errors or tragedy of errors? What is it?

Darn, those talking heads talk too much. They should all go to bed now.

@mimi And as usual, it went along party lines for the most part, save for Joe Manchin and I think Connor Lamb. The funny thing is that the Repigs can always count on a couple of Dems to play the bipartisanship card while the rest continue the controlled opposition kabuki theater even on the worst of the worst when it comes to appointment confirmations, shitty legislation and anything else in between.

and a good one may it be. Thinking good thoughts for you. Nature is so healing and so are our animals. Totally in love with my cat. He is such an amazing being and I have learned so much from him.

Yesterday there was an owl out in the preserve. I discovered it because the crows where having a fit. It sat there all day. I went out and made noises to establish my territory and chase the crows away. That worked. But then later in the day there were at least two red shouldered hawks that came to attack the owl. It sat there with its head pointed up and they finally left. Big one. Really big. Lovely long tail. It was gone this morning. I hope it left in the night with a full tummy of rats.

And here is a video of a woman in Berlin (now passed) who I learned breathwork from. Just watch the part where she is moving with breath. It's in German. She was 85 when I studied with her.

@smiley7 mentioned something about permeating evil here in the U.S. It's an absolute tragedy, so much possibility thrown away or stollen and it seems lost now. And you are right, as you wrote above, it is hard to be an American and have to watch this. It breaks your heart. We have our very own concentration camps here in tx, where we separate children from their mothers and fathers, established under the last administration and now proliferating like wildfire. What an indictment against us. I have no words. But artists like Simone, calling us out.

@smiley7 the conversations about art and music seem to me to be crucial in this time. The artist who resonate with me now are those who try to reflect back to us the horrors that we have accepted as part of life. Perhaps they will help us to see.
I always appreciate your ot and all the contributors at this place.
Best to you smiley as always.
