OT ~ Welcome to Saturday!

Sit-a-while
on swinging porch
where tin-dippers and
sweet water
in cool touches
meet lips
from hand dug wells.

Against this cosmic background the lifespan of a particular plant or animal appears, not as drama complete in itself, but only as a brief interlude in a panorama of endless change. ~ Rachel Carson

Good morning good people!

The World Below the Brine

The world below the brine,
Forests at the bottom of the sea, the branches and leaves,
Sea-lettuce, vast lichens, strange flowers and seeds, the thick tangle, openings, and pink turf,
Different colors, pale gray and green, purple, white, and gold, the play of light through the water,
Dumb swimmers there among the rocks, coral, gluten, grass, rushes, and the aliment of the swimmers,
Sluggish existences grazing there suspended, or slowly crawling close to the bottom,
The sperm-whale at the surface blowing air and spray, or disporting with his flukes,
The leaden-eyed shark, the walrus, the turtle, the hairy sea-leopard, and the sting-ray,
Passions there, wars, pursuits, tribes, sight in those ocean-depths, breathing that thick-breathing air, as so many do,
The change thence to the sight here, and to the subtle air breathed by beings like us who walk this sphere,
The change onward from ours to that of beings who walk other spheres.

~ Walt Whitman

Today's music ~ Jami Sieber

Have a great day, everyone!

The porch is yours...

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

Heh. Just last week we bought some coffee which on discounted sale in a grocery store in Slovenia. You'll never guess which country it was from. I know we were a little shocked to see it on the shelf from there but should not have been, as it was from a part of the former Yugoslavia.

Can't remember exactly where , but the size of it was as big as the part of NYC just sliding into the river. And it was just as tall as the highest skyscraper. The power of the break off was massive. My family went to Glacier park every summer when I was a kid and there were times when the Goin to the sun highway had 20 feet on the side of the road. And the number of glaciers were nothing like there is the last time I went. Very sad to see how few are left.

Does anyone see the humor or is it irony that tens of thousands of people protested against Trump's visit while he is having tea with the queen of England? And May being as cordial as she could be? Apparently Trump broke all kinds of protocol while visiting the queen. I'm wondering how much of just theater we are being shown between him and the leaders? The global agendas are still being done.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg
where i to travel in Europe, i'd switch at least to an English accent as to not be associated to the US of A. No good comes of trump and minions and i recalled last evening how many died for the right to vote and all today's propaganda and evil doers dissuading the opportunity at every turn.

Many miles to go before we sleep, take heart, my friend, our younger folks seem majorly in agreement with the quarter million in center London yesterday. GThemOTV and give them good people to vote for...

And kudos to the hang gliders greeting the "under par trump" in Scotland, amazing feat!

All eyes on Trump, all emotion aimed at Trump; meanwhile the U.K. and its dependencies and protectorates continue to support legal wheezes that allow the 0.1% to loot the planet and hide their ill-gotten gains.

The two structures look familiar, but the video was much longer and much more impressive. I'll try to find it tomorrow and post it here.

Thanks for looking for it.

too, though i feel her presence in OT's, often... for riverlover:

Can almost see the driveway
the snow covered car
out of reach

Stones reflecting in smiling wise eyes
colors unknown
trees rising in back, meadow running from home

Hear the paddling feet in fog
in pain, no more
walking freely at last
and not alone.

"Eventually, all things merge into one and a river runs through it.
The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops, under the rocks are the words and some of the words are theirs." ~ Norman Maclean

Great to see you, Granma, hoping you've a wonderful weekend!

in good health and spirits and adventuring.

Your links brought much to mind, years in London, the good people there in memories, the toxic costs yet to be realized and muckraking...

“In Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress you may recall the description of the Man with the Muck-rake, the man who could look no way but downward with the muck-rake in his hands; Who was offered a celestial crown for his muck-rake, but who would neither look up nor regard the crown he was offered, but continued to rake to himself the filth of the floor." ~ TR on Hearst and yellow journalism.

In need of a thousand more Sinclair's; but he was a socialist :).

Living in hopes and knowledge that tides do change and folks, like you two, carry the good fight locally.

Happy trails today!

Sierras, so a lot of stuff bolted and all that. We did get some apricots that the critters didn't beat us to, and are getting a lot of green beans. Also got a few onions and some remaining unbolted greens.

Farmers' market today, which usually includes fresh fish trucked over from Half Moon Bay so we will likely grab a chunk of salmon, halibut or "rock cod" for tonight's dinner. Still doing clean-up and repair from camping trip, then it's back to yard work and prep for the next trip plus planning the next several.

Have yourself a great day (and week).

making our local places little paradises and escapes for thousands as well which is good and bad if you'd like to purchase a home or rent something as property values are sky-high, though not as high as your fantastic region of this country.

Gardens planted in mid-may coming in here and many more early apple varieties fill the frig. Thirty miles down the hill blackberry festivals take place this weekend; but a drive around this week checking on their local progress satisfied me that i should hold off on annual blackberry trekking a week or two.

Had a marvelous time camping with my son and his mate on the Watauga last week; sure do miss them when they go...and my grand-dog, too. Smile

Enjoy the fresh fish; no choice but to catch my own here as no one trucks fresh fish from the coast anymore i'm aware of; except for purveyors to the area's fancy restaurants.

Hoping you've a good local Sauvignon Blanc for the late afternoon Smile

Two thoughts both from Duke:

Dr. Miguel Nicolelis emerged from the tunnel of the Arena de Sao Paolo into the brilliant Brazilian sunlight. The scene before him was breathtaking: dancers twirled around an enormous planet-like soccer ball pulsing with multicolored lights at midfield, music blared over the stadium’s speakers, and the stands were a cheering, roaring sea of yellow and green, the Brazilian national colors.

Nicolelis was nervous. He and a team of over 150 collaborators had been racing the clock for almost a year and a half in order to get to this moment. If they failed, they would fail in front of nearly 70,000 people in the stadium and hundreds of millions around the world watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony on television.
paranormal

[...] Pinto’s right leg flexed backward about 30 degrees and then swung forward to make contact with the ball, which rolled several feet. By World Cup standards, it was a humble kick indeed—but that gentle tap offered a glimpse of a future in which people might be liberated from the physical limitations of the body, in which patients with paralysis might one day be able to use their minds to power their legs and walk again.

https://today.duke.edu/2014/10/nicolelis

By 1935 J. B. Rhine had coined the term extrasensory perception (ESP) and defined four forms: telepathy (mind-to-mind communication without known physical means), clairvoyance (seeing things not present), pre-cognition (knowing things before they happen) and psychokinesis (mind over matter). He believed by proving ESP was real and that it operated independently of the physical and mortal body, there might also be something about humans that could survive death of the body.

Over the next five decades Rhine would conduct hundreds of thousands of iterations of the same experiments, often using decks of 25 cards, five symbols, five cards each with a circle, a plus sign, wavy lines, a square, and a star. By simple chance anyone should be able to guess right once in every five tries. Very early on, one Duke student reportedly had an average of 9.6 hits (correct guesses) out of 25 in 1,000 trials. The Rhines believed they were on to something.

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/community/durham-news/dn-communi...

Dr. Rhine, known and popular even attracted we students of a different blue on the Hill in the sixties of whom, i was one participating as a guinea-pig. Good laughs in memory, but they were on to something.

However, in DARPA's hands..........mind control loses its appeal.

Thanks for this good link and read and have a great evening!
