Welcome to Wednesday C99'ers. Have been sieving thoughts on the filtering of incoming and outgoing intelligence and awareness lately. Tell me if my theory's are full of holes.

It started with the blurting out of some unintended witticism by a toddler. The adults chuckled in their stuffy adult ways. The child was confused as to how his expression could be funny as he was being serious. I reflected how the youngster had not yet been socialized enough to realize his quip was unacceptable in polite company. He was just speaking his mind.

This acculturation process is an example of filtering free thoughts outbound. Just as primary education is an example of filtering incoming information. Young minds can be stifled when incomplete or contradictory information is given.

Seems the process does not end in the classroom. Our news and entertainment channels are vast filters of acceptable knowledge. We are shown only that which is deemed to be in our best interest.

Just as free speech is not really free, we are coerced into filtering our expressions into an approved fashion. A prime example of this is the current attempt at controlling the dialogue on social media platforms regarding Covid treatment issues. "Filtering our knowledge." It is not that we can't figure out our options so much as the confusing and contradicting information we are exposed to.

Brainwashed in our childhood
Brainwashed by the school
Brainwashed by our teachers
And brainwashed by all their rules
--George Harrison

~

Heard it on the radio,
Heard it on TV
That the end is coming
Of all humanity—

Better close your windows,
Better lock your doors,
Better fill the cracks
In your walls and floors.

It is coming, baby,
Coming after you—
Just because you heard it—
Another point of view—

It could be contagious,
Blowing in breeze,
Better call the experts
To flatten the disease.

Some have called it freedom
To use your own mind,
And it’s really dangerous
To all of humankind.

You must keep your distance—
For the good of all—
From the ones infected
With an awakened soul.

Wear a mask or better
Stay at home all day—
Listen to the doctors
And just stay away

From those crazy poets,
Daring you to be
Free and liberated
From mental tyranny.

Feels like a sermon to the enlightened. Anyway, this is an open thread so it is cool to share your unfiltered thoughts.

“Advertising theory.” Nice euphemism. And: Think, feel, do!

Imagining the Alec Baldwin character from Glengarry Glen Ross out there, motivating teams of mRNA vax influencers…

——

And, original lyrics by user CharredPC at WotB on Reddit:

There are countless perspectives
A million different truths
And all the rest aren't wrong
Just cause one seems right to you

Yet succeeding in the world today
Means being part of a machine
That kills the poor in the name of peace
While rich men say we're free‎

Not everyone with a silver spoon‎
Can be blamed for every crime
But only con-men claim Equality‎
When most can't spare a dime

Open minds and open hearts‎
Call out this fake "Democracy"‎
There's no fair representation‎
From those who charge a fee

See, in corporate owned America
Desperation is driving the bus
It's taught everyday on TV —
Privilege makes them safer than us

The dream we're being sold‎
Is that we should all be proud to be
Ignorant and violent
Swearing duopoly fealty

Casino capitalist sociopathy
Has become legitimized
Stepping on others to get ahead
Now gets called a "successful life"‎

But people aren't commodities
This world is not for sale
Drone wars reaping profits
Means all Wars on Terror failed

Our rigged process is fascism‎
With representation for the few‎
At the expense of everybody else‎
That's the point of Red and Blue

Now media is public relations
To confuse the struggling masses
We're taught to blame the victims
Being kicked out on their asses‎

Half of congress is millionaires
Voting to give themselves a raise
Untouched by laws they're paid to pass
While their party sponsors praise

This is America today
Land of hypocrisy
Where speaking truth
Means we're at odds‎
With the 1%'s reality

Love the lyrics!

Now media is public relations
To confuse the struggling masses
We're taught to blame the victims
Being kicked out on their asses‎

And the WEF herding campaign is a hoot!

we need to focus on the “think” and “feel” stages of decision making

treating people like a malleable mass
Yikes, very telling.

Thanks!

think-feel-do framework with exactly 7 rote, canned "stages" for each element demonstrates that:
1) They are at least, to the extent of that process, a cult
2) They forgot how to actually think long ago
3) They cannot truly feel a damn thing and are devoid of empathy
4) Whatever they propose to do will always be suspect.

Beyond that, in what way can this be interpreted as having cognitive content? Why is the word "wisdom" absent from all of their cant?

Inklings

The clues are there. They skulk between the lines.
They lurk in spin and smirk in murky spiel.
The clues are there. They leer in subtle signs.
They lounge in lies and lace the dicey deal.
The clues are there. They strain the untrained brain.
They pester questing minds with raw alarm.
The clues are there. They send the sane insane.
They snake through lakes of fakery and charm.

They tease and taunt. They haunt the daunted eye.
They loom in tombs and scribe their jibes in stone.
They strike the sleuth with truth the duped deny.
They crawl beneath the skin and scrawl on bone.

The clues are in our history’s DNA.
They’re in the price the clueless always pay.

Her Cui Bono? is also very good.

busy day yesterday with track hoe restoring drainage ditches. Now to get gravel delivered.

Youngsters often speak unaccepted truths. "Out of the mouths of babes..."

Once saw Walter Cronkite cover the story of an autistic girl that was a talented artist, however she was not well "socialized". After social training she could get along with other children, but lost her artistic talent as a result.

Well speaking of filtered, went out and got my oil changed including a new filter this AM. Got to tend old cars.

All the best!

in our extended family. Lost two more souls to the pandemic (both Delta variant): father of a musician friend of ours, 59, avid distance cyclist, and her brother, 25, generally healthy bassist. Brings our total to 7.

We now have 3 friends still fighting long Covid: two have finally weaned off of supplemental O2, and one (the ex-vocalist) looks like she's really in it for the long haul, dragging a tank everywhere since March of 2020. She's back to paying work, at least, but her singing is done.

Here are the lyrics to best describe the situation:

So much is gone.

I suppose that I should write a tune for that. Meanwhile, if you are one of the lucky ones who hasn't lost anyone yet, count your blessings. Seeing a lot of the discussions of this situation through that filter of loss tends to really sting.

I can't help but feel this Covid mess could have been so much better handled,
with many fewer losses, had we a better functioning health care system. And
consistant messaging. Putting out important information thru the filters of
political and financial benefits have left too many in the dark.

Hope things look brighter in your future.

Maybe this will put the theory to the test - as far as contracting COVID-19 is concerned.

I'm a lucky one, as I've been most my life, and have not lost a friend to COVID. However, at my age I've lost plenty of friends since the pandemic began....just from other causes. I do have some friends who were symptomatic and ill but fortunately recovered.

Again, sorry for your loss!

filter in and filter out. Philtre is a potion that causes irrational unavoidable infatuation, funny that it is a homonym of filter.

MS. Bryant heads up cui bono with a quote:

“The further society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”
—Selwyn Duke

that is a very interesting filter with which to view reality, past, present and FUTure. "Western Civilization"(tm) inadvertently and irrevocably chose a most revealing logo for its brand: Giordano Bruno.

Because FOMO, I feel compelled by this OT and thread to contribute a poem somewhat, at least tangentially, relating to filters, propaganda, narrative and all of that happy shit from the great illustrious savant, Ms Dorothy Parker:

“If I don’t drive around the park,

I’m pretty sure to make my mark.

If I’m in bed each night by ten,

I may get back my looks again,

If I abstain from fun and such,

I’ll probably amount to much,

But I shall stay the way I am,

Because I do not give a damn.”

is one of the greatest writers of all time. I would have killed to have been a fly on the wall at the Algonquin Round Table, when she and Woollcott would get after it.

I still love the story of the time some wag bet her that she couldn't come up with a sentence using the word "horticulture" on the spot. Without missing a beat, she said "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think." Game, set, match...

One of my favorites will forever be when Ms. Luce ceremoniously held the door for her intoning "Age before beauty, my dear" to which she instantly replied "pearls before swine".

The suicide bombing and gun assaults by three teams of jihadists on bars, restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and the national stadium — planned in Syria and later claimed by the Islamic State group — left 130 people dead and around 350 physically injured.

The biggest trial in France's modern history is expected to last nine months.
