Good morning C99! Tried some reality sprinkles on my flakes this morning. Wasn't too tasty. Then tried mental marsh mellows instead. Mixed it with Russian yeast and got some yummy bubblers to pop some tarts. Found a pin number and scored an incredible loop hole. Maybe that's how the DNC got hacked? Could fruit loops have had it's way with the breakfast of champions? Just a theory, mind you.
An apology. I have to go off shore for a few weeks. (Yes, I am a sailor). So I won't be able to host this Tuesday morning open thread for awhile. Not like I did much before, but I will try to post a song and a picture (with all of you in mind) while I'm away.

My mother's claim to fame at that same level is that she was born in the same Indiana town as Wendell Willkie, remembers the day Elwood had more rah-rahers than citizens. Big effin deal (to me). And all I have met is Bruce Katz, (long A for him) who grew his father's business into Rockport Shoes before selling out. I saw his pied a terre in San Fransisco. He and then-girlfriend had sex one floor down on a visit. His brother was captain on VIP boats, sailing to where the owners wanted to be. See how I cleverly brought sailing into this. A middle class girl who learned upper class at a private girl's school as a scholarship token. I feel enriched by those awful 5 years. I can easily play that part, but want no contact with the Clinton mafia.
It is supposed to be nearly 60 today. My foot of snow is mostly gone, will be gone today. I can get wet leaves off the deck or wait for the plastic compost circle which comes today or tomorrow. The 30 y/o one just collapses, even with my home fixes. For several years we had a leaf grinder, to bite it up after collection. Even the pro level one (which could eat aluminum cans) went to tool heaven. I do not even have a lawn mower now. And nothing that looks like a suburban lawn. I wish everyone a Good Day.

Seems we out live our tools. Just got a lawn sweep to tow behind the tractor. Picking up after about 50 maples. Sure beats raking. The chipper helps, but still the brush pile is almost as big as the barn. Now to move that cord of wood onto the deck...

I have a hand laid stone firepit about 3X6' full of branches
that my trees donated. From the air, by gravity. They have been there since February? Burning bans, andd now wet and today again windy, my harbor bell is ringing so a west wind. I never turned on the water to that outside spigot so it's dicey to try. A nice windless day. May be a thing of the past. And I can refill the firepit immediately with further offerings, including the Branch That Dented My Car Roof and Caused Me to Lose My Auto Insurance With Allstate.

Out here in California, suburban lawns are not a good thing.

Interpretations I've heard by the song writer's son had the tin man representing factory workers, scarecrow as dirt farmers, can't remember the lion's symbolism, but the wizard was portrayed as a wall street banker type. About 1.25 inches here. I understand why people wanted gods to thank. May be it was Chaac... (also spelled Chac or Chaahk) the Maya rain deity. With his lightning axe, Chaac strikes the clouds and produces thunder and rain.
At any rate quite a relief, Chaac or not. I hope the rain reaches Gatlinburg (near the Smokys) which is on fire.

Beautiful rainy day here in western NC
After months of drought and wildfires for the last month, the rain that came in last night was a very welcome sight for all of us here. As of this morning, the Pinnacle Mountain / Table Rock wild fire had burned over 10,000 acres but was now over 50% contained. Although this wildfire is mostly in South Carolina, it threatened my county which adjoins the SC border. Crews worked very hard to contain the fire along its northern border to prevent spread into Transylvania County NC. Yesterday, the smoke here in town was heavy in the afternoon after being clear in the morning when we walked. The rain should help both the smoke and prevent the further spread of the fire. The rain is expected to continue through today and into most of tomorrow. Maybe after it is through here, we will see a rainbow too!

Fires in Great Smokies National Park. Also Pigeon Ford evac called. Very sad, fire is something we are afraid of. Probably natural in the non-human environment. I have lived through the equivalent of a house fire. All my belongings were safe, except large house plants that were carried out and then browsed by deer. And Kate, a friend two apartments over, is dead, not from the fire. We lost contact after I moved out. I miss her, still, 35+ years later.

I have not been to Gatlinburg since the 1950s (photos to prove it, one of two family vacations we ever took). A trip with family friends. I would have been appalled at what shlock appeared later. Somewhere near there, in the Park was an area where thousands of fireflies would light up. Tours of the area for a few weeks in summer. They reside under ground in winter. Bad mojo.

Yes, there are many fires throughout
Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee. and even into Kentucky. The Pinnacle Mountain fire that I have been writing about is the one nearest to Brevard NC, where I live. It has been burning since November 8 and is finally becoming under containment.
The wildfire that has burned over 100 structures in the Gatlinburg, Tennessee area seems to have exploded in the last two to three days due to high winds that spread the fire rapidly in the area. Wildfire Today is a very good clearinghouse site for information about the wild fires currently burning.

depending upon the winds. Right now there is a break in the rain and the skies are clear and a beautiful blue.
I hope the rains are helping the folks in the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area where the wild fires suddenly erupted.

I just had had a talk with my 96 y/o mother
She is finally in a nursing home and diagnosed with Lewy Body dementia, which meant all her medications were contraindicated, a new bag o pills. I last talked to her 2 weeks ago, in psychosis, she was in a train station in another city. Today, totally different voice. Vaguely Mother. Sounding old and tiny. Oh, my.

Is anyone getting calls from a foreign company
about their windows computer? I get 6-9 calls a day starting early in the morning and into the evening even though I don't own a windows, but have a Mac.
This morning I swore at the person who called.
In less than 5 minutes tonight I have gotten the call 3 times.
I usually hang up but tonight I asked why they keep calling me.
The person said it was because I have a windows computer and I asked how he knew that.
He said "because......." and I cut him off and said because what? and he hung up on me.
I don't have caller ID so I can't report the company to the do not call list.
My stepdad gets the calls and he doesn't have a computer.
Just curious if anyone else is getting these calls and has any ideas what to do.
I'm tired of being woken up with these calls.

They're scam artists
and they pester for the same reason that a perv will walk up to women on the street and say "Hi, let's f*ck". They get slapped down a lot, but they will score a few hits.
