Helen Keller
is Alabama's most famous socialist. Our impoverished state recently put a bronze cast statue in DC, and I'm sure TPTB have no idea of her adult story...they never got past the miracle worker.
wiki:
This statue of Helen Keller was given to the National Statuary Hall Collection by Alabama in 2009.
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
One wonders;
Do they suppress her socio-political activism lest others emulate it, since she is such a classic "American Hero" and hence role model? Do they instead think they are benevolently concealing her later errors lest they tarnish her reputation? Then again, they are perhaps simply blind to the import of those other activities because they have a limited and twisted frame of reference through which they dimly perceive reality.

I think it is ignorance
really they saw the Miracle worker as a movie or play, and are totally ignorant of her adult efforts. What is funny is Rove buddy Gov. Bob Riley and his wife promoted the project (and used an artist from SD instead of Alabama).

Not at all related to Helen Keller, but
an anagram for "Hillary Rodham Clinton" is
"I'd only thrill a monarch ".
Also, an anagram for" the Bush administration" is
"bandits in this tame hour" (which would make an excellent documentary title, actually).
Have a great day, everyone!
Thanks. Have a great day yourself.

Once heard a story about Willie Mosconi
Once in a match he pocketed a hundred thirty some balls in a row. When asked how he accomplished such a feat he replied he had no hard shots.
You may need to be a pool player to understand that.

hi, el
Charles Parnell was a major infuence on James Joyce. A prominent proponent of a free Ireland, Parnell was brought down when his penis was implicated in a divorce proceeding, which caused the Catholic Church to commence the dance of St. Vitus. When Parnell soon thereafter died, the nine-year-old Joyce penned a poem, Et Tu, Healy, now lost, but descibed as "a diatribe against Tim Healy, Parnell's supposed betrayer to the Catholic Church." Parnell is referenced in every one of Joyce's works. Under the influence of his Parnell outrage, Joyce told the Church to bugger off, and then refused for 27 years to marry his lifelong inamorata, Nora Barnacle. When Joyce died, and a priest offered his services for a funeral, she said "I couldn't do that to him."
Emma Goldman was born in Lithuania, which was then swallowed up in the Russian empire. Her father was a larval mutant who whipped her, threw her books into the fire, and shouted at her to sit down, shut her mouth, and get married. She escaped that horror, into the American empire, where she was thrown into the prison for distributing birth control and encouraging draft resistance. The Americans deported her back to the Russian empire, now known as the Soviet Union. After Kronstadt, she denounced the Bolsheviks as a fraud and a failure. Meet the new boss; same as the old boss. As ever.
Goldman never said "If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution." That was a contraction, by a t-shirt maker, of this:
Goldman, she did not like stick-butts.

Good morning, hecate. Emma was a very special and able
person, surrounded by the usual crew. I well remember the joyless puritans of the left who felt, for whatever reason, that one had to emulate some perpetually constipated dyspeptic deacon lest "they" think that one was only in it for fun and games, pinched and dour persons incapabler of any awakening because it would fracture that visage and demeanor that determined every aspect of their existence.
Ah well ....
Thanks for the Van Morrison.

So the Supremes handed the religiofascists a defeat on
the women's rights front. This might be a good time to provide enhanced security for those working in the female reproductive health arena.

Yes, and also set up nicely for the corrupt Clinton presidency
with their throwing out of the conviction of McDonnell's corruption conviction:
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/27/politics/bob-mcdonnell-supreme-court/index.html
I tend to disagree with the court, as setting up a meeting or an event, and thus using your official power to endorse an action that will benefit someone who gave you "Ferraris and Rolexes" and what not should count as an official action....
surely I misunderstand the Court's decision on McDonnell
it seems they're saying he took what he could get but they don't have evidence that he then did anything in return....and that's ok.
That can't be right. I must have it wrong.
Roberts is saying
That McDonnell didn't do anything that amounted to an "official" act in return for all that stuff.

Your version is long established law. There must not only
be a quid pro quo, but it must have been understood, intended and expected by both parties throughout, otherwise, no bribe.
This goes further and says that some quid pro quo acts don't count, such as using your official offices to promote stuff or calling in a few favors.

Yuck.
...and there was Roberts saying he expected corruption cases would be overturned. Lordy.

My employer
Makes it very clear that if I accept so much as a hot dog at the corner pushcart from a client, that I will be subject to discipline including dismissal because of the perception that that hot dog is too likely to sway my judgment. Obviously I need to get into politics, where the ethical standards are lower and the hot dogs are replaced by Rolexes and Ferraris.
Apparently I also need to have a talk with my employer about their perception of my judgment.
