It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.
― Gabriel García Márquez

I am so weary. Tired of walking around disillusioned and angry. The confluence of losing my Sweetie and the sorry state of the world constantly weighs on me. I try to keep a positive outlook, but there is something percolating inside me. I fear a funkin' trigger event is lurking.

I got a bad feeling.

Something has to happen.

People can only put up with so much shit. Something has to funkin' give.

I am headed out to catch NMA tomorrow, maybe that will help.

Eyes up, look people in the eye. The smart ones see it in your eyes.

That's funkin' it. Have a great weekend! The thread is OPEN.

I just thought it's time to stop dreaming and get 'real', and now that is not what I should do to feel younger. My body sometimes tells me that I am not THAT young anymore.

I so much like the way you can express thoughts and feelings with short quotes and songs.

Thank you, NCTim and have nice view from somewhere on the trails in the mountains. Be well.

@mimi @mimi I was thinking the quote and thread were disjoint. A couple weeks ago, Smiley and I quaffed a few, discussing things. Including being mindful to try to keep our open threads positive. Heh, this is my happy face!

I'm grateful it is Friday. It's been a busy week at work. I'm looking forward to chillin' by myself tomorrow. I need a little down-time to recover my willingness to continue getting out of bed everyday.

You find your peace and have a good week.

Have a beautiful day, everyone! Pleasantry

@Raggedy Ann I dropped my gym lpod into a cup of coffee. I am looking forward to the weekend. My daughter is newly engaged and coming for the weekend. It is our monthly town street party (beer, food trucks, free music), and I am going out on Saturday night!

NCT. I think those who see are in a funk, with varying degrees of bad. But TPTB have no clue about the compassion, caring, kindness, love, that has been your life. It's not in their vocabulary, they have no idea. Nobody can take that away from you, its yours. That makes you so much better than those who are responsible for these circumstances.
So I second Mimi's idea that you find that great view on one of your trails and keep your sense of equilibrium.
Thanks for the music this morning, also.

Right after a bowl yesterday my neighbor called to accompany them on a river dawg walk. Upon return we saw a Rastafarian man with dreadlocks. First time I ever saw one in Cloverdale, it was a good sign I think. Before Ray and Magenta were evicted, we were pushing back to their camp and saw another homeless community guy, so stopped and had a chat. I was burning a fatty and left it with him, so that is why I think my bike is okay hanging out there unlocked overnight. We are chill, we are all in the shit together man. right on

Meta P.S.: Just figured how to do the underline thingy instead of the yellow highlighty; replace "ins" code with "u" both sides and voila. Or not? Maybe it looks funny in different browsers I don't know. standards meltdown just be happy

@eyo

Just FYI, if you used the underline code anywhere in the above comment, be aware that it does not work on the iPad or iPhone with the current iOS. Just so you know. I’m not sure how many people access this site with iPhones or iPad, probably not too many, but those of us who do are missing those formatting details.

I still just see everything displayed in bold type, regardless if it’s tagged bold or not, and there is no underline.

Wish I could figure out how to fix this issue, because I know I’m missing out on nuance and emphasis in comments and essays where bold is used to highlight certain words or passages. And underline as well, apparently.

Unfortunately I have no other options for being online right now, so it will have to do. When this iPad is paid for, I’ll look into other types of mobile devices I guess. Unless anyone knows a solution to fix this issue.

Sorry for the diversion... it’s good to hear your voice here eyo.

@CS in AZ thanks, the underlined part is embedded in the comment; changed from "Strain Lineage / Genealogy" to "Strain Lineage / Genealogy", just in case you can't see it again. heh

But what about the bold text, that would drive me insane. I did a quick search and there are a gazillion hits about Accessibility settings, but I don't know what y'all have tried so far attempting a fix. I tune out of iOS conversations pretty fast nowadays 'cause I've no real equipment to test on. meh

  • Tap Settings
  • Tap General
  • Tap Accessibility

Hopefully something says Bold in there, and you have permission to turn it off. Either that or Apple has tortured ye olde Konqueror code to the point it just doesn't work for users at all anymore. Smash that big face with a sledgehammer.

@eyo

In this comment now I can see both the underline and the yellow highlight. Yay!

Everything is also still in bold though. Sad

Yes, it’s known — in so far as I asked about it a few days ago in another open thread, and a few people reported the same thing happening on their iOS devices. It’s new ever since “upgrading” to iOS 11. Before that it worked fine. Thanks, Apple.

I checked the accessibility settings and “bold text” is off. This is only a thing at c99%, other websites are not all in bold. It did drive me a little crazy at first. I nearly decided to roll back to the previous version of iOS. But I’ve adapted, it’s not as jarring on the eyes as it was at first. It doesn’t seem like everyone is needlessly shouting now. Smile

I agree Apple software has gotten steadily worse over the past few years. I’m seriously thinking of abandoning it when the time comes to get something new again, but as I haven’t even paid for this one yet, that won’t be any time soon.

I appreciate you taking the time to look for ideas. Thanks!

I woke up this morning a little sore, but in much less pain that I remember having when I used to do PT. I think the reason is that when I was in the Service, PT was mandatory and it wasn't what I wanted.

Now, I WANT to get in shape, because I don't want to pull a Douglas Adams in 8 years. I want to give my kids a better future and a chance to do things that I wanted to do as a kid but gave up on because it was "Unrealistic".

(Plus I will say, being tossed around like a rag doll by people half your age is a GREAT way to motivate yourself. Smile Of course I'm also worried that certain political parties will declare Judo a "Russian" sport because of the interest in Eastern Europe...)

having returned to the car from most recently getting my beard cut for free--cause i can't shave with my left hand easily--by my wonderful hairdresser of many years at the local mall, i reached into my pockets for the keys at the car and they weren't there. Back into the mall to the hairdressers where she told me that she didn't recall my having any keys out and as I stood dumbfounded, she said, "go back to Belk's department store, that's where you bought your mother the pants, right?"

Ended up retracing all the steps i took in around an hour's time in Belk's shopping and back to the abandoned payment counter. Not a sole in fifty yards of me.

That's when i recalled that i had also forgot to get a replacement key made for this car i've had for two years and knowing that AAA wouldn't nearly cover the cost of a locksmith, flashes of cash-flow and oh fuck me came to mind. Why didn't i make another key?

Waking back to the store's entrance, i found an attendant at the cosmetic counter with a pleasant smile. She used the store phone to call someone and a few minutes later, a new to me Belk person said, "yes i found some keys," and following him in anticipation, i watched as he opened a drawer and the the unmistakable snowboard tool emerged...phew!

Think there is a metaphor in this little experience though i'm not sure what it is. Anyways, as i sit enjoying coffee and some blue sky breaking the clouds and a cool breeze coming in the window and thinking of you, i feel good in knowing that good people, even strangers, help us through this journey at times.

Have a great one. Cheers!

@smiley7
Lost my keys, can't get away,
retracing my steps, where could they be?
No one to help, stopping at a cafe
to pause and think, now, let me see
where was I last - the store with the giveaway
for Mother's day - where's the marquis?

An angel appears and makes the call
to the keeper of some items, lost and found
and lo and behold, he said with a drawl,
the keys are here, you can be homeward bound.

Have a beautiful day, smiley!

PG&E announces plans to sell Potter Valley Project

The power plant was built in the early 1900s to supply Ukiah with electricity, and diverts some of the Eel River to create that electricity.

While the project at first changed the lives of people in the Ukiah Valley solely because of the electricity it created by diverting water, now the electricity has nowhere near the impact that the redirection of water has on both the fish and the people who depend on it.

“For those of you living downstream of Lake Mendocino, this (project) is a really good thing,” said Janet Pauli, and fellow Potter Valley rancher Guiness McFadden agreed.

“If it weren’t for the Potter Valley project, Lake Mendocino would go dry three out of five years,” McFadden said.

Very local BFD, never thought I'd live to see the day PGE starts selling off depleted hydro assets.

It is difficult to keep a positive attitude when you are a citizen of the biggest terrorist organization on the planet. My thought is you just can't keep your focus there...be aware and then do the things you can in your community. The street party sounds like a good idea, Tim.

Glad you found your keys smiley! Don't forget to make that extra. I've got a magnetic container with an extra key under my travel vehicle. Locally I don't have to lock my car...I just leave my keys in my small 30 year old daily driver. No one would want to steal it anyway.

Eyo, I wish I could experiment growing and crossing plants. I took plant breeding in college. Here in the 3rd world state they would take my place and all my possessions if I was caught growing.

DMW...hope you recover from being flipped. I would have to take aspirin.

Hey to mimi, randtntx, RA, and all the rest of you. Have a good weekend!

Just got back from attending a junior college graduation in western TN. Hubby's family. Education is a sacred rite w/them. TN is one of the prettiest states geographically. Nashville is exploding with over-development, never good.

That's a positive. Lessee, the travel trailer is back from the shop, fixed, that's 2 positives, the second being that I now have to break down and wash the damn thing and it's only 49 degrees out. Heh.

Meanwhile, "spooky action at a distance" is real, or else the properties of quanta are only determined at the time of measurement (or both). http://feeds.space.com/~r/spaceheadlines/~3/_ot6dU0mzr0/40557-physicists... Those two possibilities bugged the shit out of Einstein and many others, but I've never really grokked why.
