Hangin' at home in suburbia this week babysitting our grandkitty Aurora. She is loving the bigger house and the extra large back yard than her own home. And she already found the catnip patch.
Doing the deep spring cleaning routine and fixing stuff around the house and garage.
Had a fun Mothers Day with E2s Mom and her two brothers at Applebees. Surprisingly few diners for a big metropolis like Portland, we got a table for 8 right away!
Her Mom is 89 and still working full time as a caregiver at a local convalesce home and some private clients. She just wont stop working. The only time she lets up is for one of her frequent overseas cruises. Tough old gal from the silent generation. I'm in awe.
Garden is doing great. Everything has come up. Volunteer potatoes, corn, carrots, onions, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, tomatillos, parsley, cilantro, and basil. Sage and rosemary grow year round back in the corner of the yard. As does the catnip.
I have a reliable watering system set up on a timer that will free us for some traveling this spring and summer.
We want to get up to Victoria, BC and tour the city and especially the Butchart Gardens. Already have a camping trip scheduled for July to the San Juan Islands, Deception Pass CG. The family will be there (16 of us), so it should be a lot of fun.
Our trip to Alaska is on hold. Maybe next year.

Kennedy told another woman who had better credentials than Means that she would be the surgeon general just the day before Means was appointed. Who appointed her? When Trump came out with DOGE and began to learn about it, I came to conclusion that it was about not about stopping graft and corruption. It was about going after his enemies both big and small and removing their funding, including laying off regular fed employees and along with such acts as removing security clearances.
I was actually shocked to how deeply the democrats, NGOs, etc funding themselves by essentially legally stealing tax payer monies. Intrepid reporters did in the past expose the graft and corruption including such boondoggles as CA fast rail. With DOGE people began asking yah, what happened to billions spent on the homeless in CA to the tune of like $24 billion. But all those investigative reporting had next to no exposure and ignored by those holding the proverbial purse strings.
But now it appears that DOGE may have been cutting off funding to GOP operatives and connected people. I suppose it was worth it to at least de-fund USAID using our taxes for regime change aboard and here in the United States. Scott Ritter posted that when USAID monies went away, his Ukrainian troll count went to near zero.

the money going to Ukraine to fund it's government salaries and pensions was divvied up with a big portion coming back in the form of donations to Democrat campaigns.

USAID hasn’t gone anywhere
It’s been put under the state department and many of its hidden acts will continue.
Doge Was just another psyops where it looked like something good was happening, but it just hurt many hard working Americans. If people are doing a bad job then they should be given a warning that their job is going away. But to just fire people willy nilly is horrible. People make long term plans for their lives and their families and to just find out that you’re fired….because of reasons. Nope not a fan. Right wingers have no sympathy because they lost their jobs because they didn’t want to take an experimental vaccine. Yeah revenge is okay.
Trump is working on privatizing the post office and the mass firings is a way to privatize other parts of the government and let contractors rip us off for profit.
Musk complains about all the money being spent, but no one becomes a billionaire without lots of help from the government to pay their way.
I’d love to see DOGE expose how much money he gets from the government for all his businesses. He’s not spending money on space out of his goodwill.
And once again republicans are passing crappy bills that will hurt more people and democrats can’t do a thing to stop them. Unlike how republicans can always stop democrats when THEY aren’t in power. Or democrats stop themselves because too many in the party are actually republicans. Don’t forget that both parties serve the same donors. And they put the donor’s needs before ours.

I looked at the comments on this over at ZH
I thought that maybe there would be some pushback for Trump importing new refugees after his big ta do about kicking others out, but most people there were okay with it and especially since they were waving American flags and had been vetted for no crimes. Seems a tad racist that they would just accept new white refugees who aren’t really at risk of being genocided.
Lots of immigrants have been vetted or given refugee status because of where they came from, but Trump cancelled most of the TRS which have been in place for several years and not just under Biden.
Trump said that he would go after the criminal immigrants, but he’s got his masked Gestapo going after farm workers, ect and not criminals.
If Trump really wanted to get rid of the immigrants that are taking our jobs he would crack down on big businesses that have hundreds of them working for peanuts instead of paying Americans a living wage. There’s the effing hypocrisy of both parties.
Let’s remember that he deported less immigrants than either Obama or Biden during his first term.
Oh yeah and I could be wrong, but he doesn’t have to give immigrants due process to deport them to their country of origin. He does have to do that if he deports them to another country not their own to stick them in prison.
