Art is the theme. I've nothing much to say. Working 7 days a week has left me with little spare brain cells. Was thinking of posting something of great socio-political import, but my ears started leaking. So, being an open thread, it is whatever.

Says Joy Reid and guests - those darn white suburbanites...

Of course, they have no time to mention, much less attempt to explain, the election of Virginia's first black and first female Lt. Governor in the same election. Would be amusing to see them make the attempt, but since Winsome Sears, in addition to being black and (biologically!) female is also pro-Second Amendment, a Marine Corps veteran and self-identified non-victim *Republican*... don't hold your breath waiting for it to be mentioned.

In other news, if the results for the race for Texas House District 118 represent any sort of broader trend, Democrats down there are having serious trouble. In a special election Republicans flip the seat - in a district Beto previously won by 20% and Biden by 14%...

@QMS

Must be fun (when weather is nice) to sail such beautiful ships.

Don't work too hard...all work and no play makes Q a dull boy (and his ears leak)

Been wondering about Bill Binney and heard him speak about Julian this morning...

William Binney says the governments involved want to silence the free media.

Hope you all have a good day!

@Lookout

Took her up to Maine and down to Norfolk. Many places in between.
Set the sails, turn on the auto pilot and and kick back
for 24 hour runs. As you know, it's not always like that.
Sometimes the wind and seas can be quite angry ..

Thanks for posting!

at ‘hydraulic roller furling mainsail’. @QMS
All I could envision is one good knockdown and a lot of the shiny gadgets end up as just shiny, no gadget.
But then, I’m kinda old school(fool) that way.

@Tall Bald and Ugly

1000 lbs of melted lead in the bottom of the hull
it would take a hell of a lot of wind to knock her down
the sails and rigging would part before the stress levels
got to that point.

Yeah, the main sail, jib, inner forestay sail and windlasses
are all powered by hydraulics. Navtek Commander system.
The rest of the winches are powered by DC electric.

Generally don't let her lay over more than about 25 degrees
otherwise it gets a bit uncomfortable with the ocean pouring
over the deck. Have never heard of a knock-down on one of these boats.

Think rigid. The mast is actually lowered to comparable boats of this weight
and length. That is to clear the 65' bridges in the Intracoastal Waterway. (ICW)
The 4'6" draft is useful in the Bahamas and Caribe.

gotta read all of it

Colombian senator Gustavo Petro, who wants to tax the rich and cut the economy’s dependence on fossil fuels, continues to command a wide lead over rivals ahead of the 2022 presidential election.

The former guerrilla, who is popular among poorer Colombians and students while feared by many investors, is leading with 26% support ahead of the vote next May, in a poll carried out by Bogota-based researcher Datexco and published by W Radio. However, there are two candidates who would beat Petro in a runoff, the poll found.

Sergio Fajardo, a former math professor who was mayor of Colombia’s second city, Medellin, was in 2nd place, with 10% of voting intentions, the poll found. He was followed by Rodolfo Hernandez, a former mayor of the provincial city of Bucaramanga in eastern Colombia, on 7%, former Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez and former Health Minister Alejandro Gaviria, who both had 6%, and ex-Senator Juan Manuel Galan, who had 5%.

@gjohnsit Things are happening in Mexico

Mexico Moves to Seize American Assets
Why does López Obrador have the impression that Biden doesn’t care?

Under cover of darkness, according to a person familiar with the matter, Mexican National Guard troops sealed the front gates of the Monterra Energy fuel terminal in Tuxpan, Veracruz, last month. The facility was closed by order of Mexico’s energy regulator.

Monterra Energy is owned by the American global investment firm KKR. Its Tuxpan terminal stores gasoline imported from refineries on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The fuel is destined for service stations in Mexico, which are owned and operated by a variety of companies.

Historically this would trigger a CIA coup.
