Well, I for one am shocked!

Pete Buttigieg Drops Out of Democratic Presidential Race

It's behind a paywall so here's the interesting bit.

Mr. Buttigieg talked with Mr. Biden and former President Barack Obama on Sunday night, according to a Democratic official familiar with the conversations. Mr. Biden asked for Mr. Buttigieg’s support and the former mayor indicated he would consider the request. Mr. Buttigieg wants to sleep on the decision, he told aides, some of whom believe he should move quickly to endorse Mr. Biden.

Mr. Obama did not specifically encourage Mr. Buttigieg to endorse Mr. Biden, said the official, who insisted on anonymity to discuss private conversations. But Mr. Obama did note that Mr. Buttigieg has considerable leverage at the moment and should think about how best to use it. Should Mr. Buttigieg endorse Mr. Biden on Monday, it could reshape the Democratic primary if many of his supporters shift to Mr. Biden, creating a more formidable centrist challenge to Mr. Sanders’s progressive movement.

If it looks like an endorsement and walks like an endorsement and smells like an endorsement...

Don't worry...all those "news" sites (I coughed a few times there) offer a "free to look" for a few times, then hit you up for subscriptions, disallowing further freebies. All the browser add-on does, is delete those cookies from your machine. Nothing illegal, just deleting your own computer files.

Confirmed here, among other places. From the cited article:

Chris Matthews announced that he is retiring effective immediately, and that Monday’s Hardball would be the last on MSNBC.

“This isn’t for a lack of interest in politics,” he said on the air tonight. “As you can tell I have loved every minute of my 20 years as host of Hardball.”

Matthews did not appear on MSNBC’s coverage of the South Carolina primary on Saturday night, which led to speculation over his absence. Laura Bassett wrote in GQ last week that he had “inappropriately flirted” with her before an appearance on his show, “making me noticeably uncomfortable on air.” She criticized the way that Matthews interviewed presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren following the debate last week in Charleston, SC.
He addressed that story in his remarks today, indicating that his decision to retire came after mutual discussion.

“After conversations with MSNBC, I decided tonight will be my last Hardball, so let me tell you why. The younger generation is out there ready to take the reins. We see them in politics, in the media, in fighting for their causes. They are improving the workplace. We are talking here about better standards than we grew up with — fair standards.”

“A lot of it has to do with how we talk to each other. Compliments on a woman’s appearance that some men, including me, once incorrectly would have thought were okay. They were never okay. Not then, and certainly not today, and for making such comments in the past, I am sorry.”

If he's talking about the "standards" of how men and women relate to each other on air, he's right, Reportedly, he flirted inappropriately with Laura Bassett on camera. He should have known better. But if he thinks that the rest of broadcasting is maintaining "fair standards" with no Fairness Doctrine in place, he needs a new drug!

campaign trail for Biden, after this. Those are their marching orders. They are ganging up on Bernie. They'll show him. They will all run against him for Biden. He'll pick Pete for his VP, in case he dies in office. Just a wild guess. Unknw

@Marie Attendees? Don't know much about the shindig but I'll guess at the program.

Mayor Pete will speak eloquently for his allotted 20 minute oration, after which all the listener's still in awe of Pete's speaking prowess will be prove unable to give a coherent analysis of what he said.

Beto will pose for fashion pics when Vanity Fair's photogs attend the event. On stage, Beto will perform table dancing, while singing a Mexican narocorrida.

Amiable Amy will demonstrate preparation, serving, and of course, consuming a delicious Caesar salad.

Finally, JoJo will be lead to the stage, profusely thanking everyone for his Oklahoma rally. Unwilling to let past statements go uncorrected, ByeDone will admit that he misspoke about the death toll from the flu as 150M (more than 40% of the population)

If any one can get a video of the event, please hesitate to post it at c99, in the matter of good taste (and you know, I have pretty low standards in that department).

@Shahryar I think that DNC leadership would just as soon keep Hilz behind the curtain for the next six or eight months. I'm sure that there's some identity politics people still worshipping at her altar, but I suspect even the DNC have finally realized how toxic she is. Remember the pictures of her being dragged up stairs and being pushed into limos? People make allowances for the old and infirm, but when the crust is cracked open she really is a hideous human being.

@jim p … with all the pre-Super Tuesday news (withdrawals and endorsements), Chris Matthews stepping down, a little noticed news item (well, Fox covered it) was the fact that the Senate Rs are opening up an investigation that I would call Ukrainegate II that, unlike the House impeachment fiasco, is going to focus on Burisma and Hunter Biden, something that is likely to continue right up until the fall election and, for those Dems concerned about "electability," it makes Sleepy Joe (aka known as "Quid Pro Quo" Joe if you've seen the tape of his bragging about getting that prosecutor fired) an even riskier pick.
