Not The Evening Blues Special Edition Tonight

There will be a special edition of Not The Evening Blues tonight featuring Country Joe and The Fish, with News, Opinion, Commentary, Evening Greens and the like. There will be a cameo by Phil Ochs.

It won't be up to Joe's and Johnny's standards, but there will be something to fill the gap.

Y'all come.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

Not sure exactly what's on my schedule tonight, but I'll make a point to at least drop by. Moral support, if nothing else.

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -

and it looks like slim pickings on Daily Kos. Can you imagine what Phil Ochs would write about today, where would he start?

Marriage equality: As a divorced person, I don't get the emphasis on it. Mine was a failure. Of course marriage should be legal if people want it but marriage in general is in decline. The same situation exists with allowing gay people to become ministers while church attendance is declining. Is it that people fighting for these civil rights are allowed to have them when they are no longer that meaningful to the majority?

Hey, we finally can get married but now nobody else wants to do it.
Kind of like fighting for the right to serve in the military. Ya, what did you really win?

According to the U.S. government’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), 33 per cent of American eighth graders currently believe that Canada is a dictatorship….

A recent study by the National Center for Education Statistics found that some 33 percent of American 8th graders give survey answers indicating that Canada, France, and Australia are dictatorships. Only 54% chose the most correct of the available answers – that these nations’ governments all have “constitutions that limit their power”:

This survey is just one of may results showing widespread ignorance in the United States about political issues, geography, and foreign countries. But studies also show extensive political ignorance in many other democracies. Surveys on political ignorance in Britain, for example, often find results that are strikingly similar to those in the US.
