Everyone thinks they have the best dog, and none of them are wrong.

That's what I get from the title you posted. If he's regretting his edict, it must be hurting his site. Nothing he has to say changes that he sold out to the wrong wing of the Democratic party. Nothing changes that March 15 is not arbitrary and favors the candidate he wants to prevail. I'm not going to support his cash cow by visiting there anymore.

I read the article - went over there to rec Bernie diaries - and it is anything but conciliatory. Yes, he wrist-slapped a particularly obnoxious poster, but the rest was the S.O.S. Just repeated with what he claims he hopes are clearer instructions. Yes, of course you can criticize HRC if you do it in a positive, well-meaning manner! No "maliciousness" (his word). The only good thing I saw in the pile he laid is his admonition to people to not gloat, but even that was predicated on the, in his mind, fact that HRC will be the winner. In the comments was an especially blind/deaf one to the effect that, yes, it's all perfectly clear now! So we can give HRC good advice on how to push back against the "lies" of the email investigation, written with no hint of irony. This person gave not one thought to the possibility that any of it, not one tiny speck, could be true. The RNC did themselves no good whatsoever in their Benghazi Witch Hunt as it simply reinforced their own voter's beliefs, and actually ossified in the minds of HRC supporters that any and everything critical of her is also a witch hunt. I love the freedom to say that from now on the HRC Kos folks can sit around and jerk each other off, happy in their orgasmic, circular glow!

aside from the fact he told trix 'to cut it out' it was more of the same. This is where I quit reading.

There is ambiguity between what is legitimate criticism of Clinton from the left, and what is a right-wing or destructive malicious attack. I get that. Language can be imprecise, and perspective matters. One person’s freedom fighter is another’s terrorist. So here’s one way to think about it: intent.

If your goal is to make Clinton a better candidate and president, that’s allowed. Constructive criticism falls under that rubric. If your goal is to sabotage Clinton, then that won’t be allowed.

Again, what is what can be in the eye of the beholder, but that’s how moderators will evaluate these matters. If your goal is to make Clinton better, then great! If your goal is to destroy her, then boo hiss.

Intent my ass. I have no intent to make Hillary better that's ridiculous. She is what she is and no amount of 'constructive' criticism is going to move Hillary the Hun to the left. For me a political party is a means to an end and I do not intend to support or help these Third Way'ers make the end to be another Clinton administration. This is not democratic voting it's extorting your vote out of fear of Trump or Cruz or any RW lunatic they run and then the Vichy Dems. use as cudgel to get you to STFU and vote. How many cliffs of mass deception threats, using fear, do these authoritarian Dem. gangsters think ordinary people will fall for. The whole thing reeks of a fix by both parties. How can anyone with a brain in their head that hasn't been washed be duped by this set up over and over again. Why the 15th of March? Guess a little birdie told kos that he needed to pull the plug and stop the democratic insurrection that would damage the inevitable one's coronation. Can't have the little people getting all riled up about having to vote for the mad bomber queen. I'll still vote but not for her or any Dem. Weasel candidate. I'm most likely going to write in Bernie. Down ticket the socialists and the few good Democratic candidates. I'll work on a local level to primary the bent Dem. pols I worked hard to get elected. They all need to go. This is not what democracy looks like.

An idea is not responsible for who happens to be carrying it at the time. It stands or it falls on its own merits.

However, the real separation, not just at his site, has taken place over the last several years is within the Democratic party. The establishment members have been trying to wring the left-wingers out of the party or marginalize their opinions/efforts. Kos has chosen his side in this fight, and he's going with the establishment. It makes sense, because he never really seemed to care about any particular issues, but rather posts a lot about the inside gaming for elections, like Carville and Begala.

I spent a lot of time on Dkos in the last 6-7 years. Wasn't a huge contributor, but I wasn't exactly invisible, either.

I'm done with it. Period. That was an easy decision after he issued his dictate. I'm particular in the company I keep. No more DK for me, just like I'll be done with the Democratic party if it passes on the first real progressive we've seen in a generation. I cannot agree that Kos's diary was "reasonable". You do not seem to have strong feelings about either candidate, so perhaps it is easier for you to not be bothered by Kos's dictates. I also argue that though "As for Clinton, it was said in 2007-2008", that was eight years ago and there are millions of new voters for whom this information is relevatory. Add to that her years as Sec. of State which occurred after 2007-2008 and that just doesn't work for me. There is also an FBI investigation on-going. Nope, my rebellious heart does not take well to schooling from a clear partisan such as Markos. There are plenty of other places where I can express myself and my opinions without someone shaking their authoritarian finger at me.

Oh and this idea of "constructive" criticism of Clinton! Can anyone imagine it? Constructive criticism, as you may have gathered already, has to pertain to what exactly is being constructed. So what would constructive criticism of Clinton look like? "Secretary Clinton, I can't really think of much to suggest that you're not already doing. Be sure not to lie too much when you might get caught by too many people. Censor Sanders some more -- make sure the word about him doesn't get out. Pay the other members of your syndicate well." Or something like that.

I mean, how else could you chastise her for not running an effective enough syndicate? I suppose you could say "Geez Hillary could you actually put some teeth in your articulate and well-worded proposals maybe?" -- but to do so would be to suggest a purpose for the Clinton campaign that doesn't pan out in reality. The point of the Clinton campaign is to get more power for Hillary Clinton, period. To criticize that point "constructively" means to suggest more effective ways by which it could be done.

One that this site will have to deal with soon enough.

Personally I am enjoying being out from under the forced support of the Democratic party. I recognise it as being what should represent my views, but it hasn't. I have lived here for 30 years and never became a citizen. I have yet to find a place I feel I fit, and when they ask me to forswear my allegiance to my native New Zealand I just laugh. The US is so far behind in worthiness they really have it coming. But I love the people, I love the climate, and who needs to vote when you can persuade others to do it for you? I accept that the US is just a little sick, these days. And I must say I have really enjoyed reading this site - I even popped a small bit of coin in the pot.

But back to my point - it will not be long before there are squabbles here. And sorting them is a royal pain.

SnappleBC's picture

As an independent it was always clear that I hadn't drunk enough of the blue colored kool-aid to really be on DKOS. His March 15th edict was just the impetus I needed to find a site like this one. Here, I feel like I can discuss progressive issues, rather than partisan Democratic ones. Here, I feel like I could get into questions about voting strategy in an HRC vs. Trump election and get actually thoughtful feedback. Here, I'm just less of an outsider all in all.... as evidenced by the fact that I posted my first significant diary and I didn't have any qualms about getting beaten down for insufficient loyalty.

I hope to contribute more to this site than just comments.

I will say this though. Even I have to admit that posting negative information about Hillary serves no useful purpose after she has won (or effectively won) the nomination. Whether it's true or not makes no difference because at that point, it is what it is. On a partisan site like DKOS it's only possible purpose runs counter to the mission... driving voters away from the Democratic party. Of course, on a site like this one, that's not a forbidden thought or outcome.

relating to 'policy,' personally. 'Cause it's pretty much impossible to discuss the reform of social safety net programs, and not bring up any negatives, considering all the detrimental cuts/reforms that have taken place over the past 7 plus years.

(Having said that, I'm not at all meaning to infer that folks should refrain from disagreement/discussion. Just so that's clear.)

But, there are a few of us here who are very interested in policy and legislation. Now, I agree that there's really no place, or necessity for vitriolic language in this type of discussion--if that's what you're referring to.

Mostly, I try to cover 'entitlement' reform, and federal civilian and military pensions/healthcare in an objective and even-handed manner. So, I very much hope that factual presentation won't upset anyone. But, I have to admit--I don't spare any political figure or Party (as they say).

Emotional abuse and gaslighting take a while to work through. The last thing those folks need to hear is 'what's wrong with you? Are you STILL stuck?'

If you are impatient for action, try the Kossacks for Sanders Reddit; from there you can hopscotch till you find the right place for your need for action.

Many here now just need a place where they can talk freely without getting beaten. Many of us need to regain our power of speech, our ability to write freely without self-censoring our thoughts. To us, that IS 'doing something', and that something has to be done, that work finished, before we can 'take action' (or at least while we find avenues for action).

For those of us who relied on the GOS as an oasis of like-minded spirits in a wasteland of political apathy and corruption, and the complicity of the media in governance by fear, not to mention the scorn of family members, this pivot to Clinton really stings.
DK was my political home for 10 years. I don't have any reason to go back now, but it still hurts.

Some of us even have an emotional connection. What happens at dk is of interest and will continue to be of interest to us. It is nice to be able to look at it the sunlight and openly discuss the strangely dependent relationship we have with the place.

in ways that I'm not sure can be repaired - I'm talking about the smearing and/or diversionary bs that a supposedly liberal website and its members indulged in. It seemed almost like the site became was a focus group for DNC/HRC memes. It became the place that introduced me first to all the greatest hits:

1. Hillary is the most qualified candidate in the history of the world by virtue of her resume, just forget about all the actual policy stances she has had in that resume, okay?

2. It's time for a woman President

3. Bernie is just an old white guy who can only relate to others of the pale persuasion and he will never ever ever breakthrough in the primary because Bill and Hillary have a lock on the votes of the monolithic bloc of POC.

4. Because of #2 and #3 all of Bernie's supporters are sublimated racists/segregationists/sexists/misogynists by default

5. Bernie's social justice history has no real value and is mostly enhanced, oversold misty water-colored memories of a would be radical - basically denigrating the man's entire personal history as a liberal iconoclast.

6. The most ridiculous diary I have ever read, that I couldn't bring myself to comment on at DK - Kos' Miss Manner's Updated Rules For Radicals and Revolutionaries which posited that Liberal Revolution can only "start with people of color", because according to him - "Bottom line, no white-dominated liberal movement will succeed when 40 percent of Democrats are people of color. And people of color will be reluctant to join a movement led by little-known whites. History has made us justifiably suspicious of the Great White Savior." What do you do with that kind of sophistry? Revolutions arise organically when and where circumstances dictate and the idea that would-be leaders of social justice movements have to fulfill a demographic requirement for entry is ludicrous and insulting to people of all races and ethnicities.

7. The email affair is a nothingburger. No reason to care that our candidate subverted on purpose legitimate Congressional oversight and legal FOIA requests by having a covert server and ignoring specific requests for her emails. They were only revealed because of a foreign hacker and because she was SUED in federal court for compliance. Who give's a rat's ass about transparency and accountability of our government officials? If HRC did it, it's okay.

I'm really sad because I really liked Daily Kos. It was a great place to read, write, discuss and inform and be informed before the primary. I just can't take any place seriously that is willing to sacrifice an entire Party and its history and its ethical foundation simply to satisfy the political ambitions of one person.

I have a great big red tom kitteh in my house named Rufus who's quite aware that the lions are his kinfolks.

He becomes very upset when I suggest feeding the likes of Tez Crud to lions. He starts pulling shit like "the song of his people" at 3:00 AM etc.

I fare better washing him in the bathtub.

8. Citizens United was the horribilest, awfullest Supreme Court decision in the history of the world, until it wasn't. HRC takes mega-donations from scumbags? SO? Everyone Does It!! But she does it with purity and grace. If HRC did it, it's okay.

Thanks for mentioning #6. That one left me gobsmacked as well. Guess the 63% of Americans who are non-Hispanic whites should just shut up and let democracy rule.

Don't misread me: I'm all for a more inclusive society in every respect. I'm a white guy who supported Jesse Jackson in the '80s, and who wept when President Obama was elected because (for some reason) I thought we were finally getting a progressive president. (And I'm not anit-Obama, either; I just think he was a good president when he could have been a great one.) Point is, the "right" candidate can be any color, and it was ludicrous on its face for Kos to dismiss Bernie because he was white. Especially considering the alternative.

If he really gave a crap about Trix (or by extension other front page trolls) he would have acted much sooner. Also AFAIK front pagers have never trolled the community part of the site prior to this election season so the fact that half a dozen or so are now doing so would seem to indicate that orders have been given or at least permission has been granted by Markos.

The tone may have changed but the message hasn't - he hasn't moved on the 15th March deadline and that is the critical part.

He may have possibly learned that pissing off the unpaid labor is not a good idea.

There's never been another race where we had a real progressive candidate, and the so called largest liberal blog joined with DWS to back the conservative, Wall Street owned elitist instead. To add insult to injury, Kos put his thumbs on the scale along with DWS. Although we knew Kos had sold out, flagrantly cheating to win made the place even worse than it was.

this election is of particular importance to the young people because it is their future and that does not look good. Other politicians and commentators think that all they want is free stuff, but what they really want is a future.

So when establishment politicians and their minions (including the media in particular) put their boot on the scale, they have basically told the youth of this country and the people of all countries that they are expendable. I think my short experience with my local small Occupy group really affected me in this regard. The millennials are very worried about climate change. In our Occupy, it was their number one issue. Now some wealthy little asshole like Markos basically says that the game is more important than their future and the future of his own children.

For me, this is why Markos latest example of assholery has pissed me off so much.

Strange to think of Markos as belonging in the past, a representative of the reactionary status quo. He has become what he used to claim to hate.

I will share here what I just posted a while ago on this topic over at the Reddit site (slightly edited).

This post from Kos doesn't change my mind, in fact it irritates me that he's so full of bullshit and so many people lap it up. Two big lies in that post. One, the claims that he "made it explicit" in his previous post that support for Sanders will still allowed after March 15, and people who suggest otherwise are "willfully misrepresenting" what he wrote. Maybe he doesn't know what the word "explicit" means, but nowhere in that previous post does it say continued support for Sanders will be allowed. If it did, he could link to it to prove his point. He can't do that because he did not make that explicit in the least. In fact, he said otherwise in about 16 different ways. Here's just a few choice quotes:

  • "It's over. Move on."
  • "March 15 this site officially transitions to General Election footing. That means, we will focus our attention not just on Donald Trump or his rivals, but also on the Senate, the House, and state-level races."
  • "But it does us no good to keep fighting over something that is already determined. People have voted, and the numbers are the numbers. It’s time to move on..."

Now they sit around saying that anyone who doesn't see how this clearly means the primary will go on and people can keep advocating for Sanders just have reading comprehension problems or are "willfully misrepresenting" his words. What a crock!

The other big lie is the he did this before in 2008. Again, if that were true, it would be easy enough to link to any previous post where he did anything similar. He can't, because the fact is, he didn't do this before.

And finally the absurd idea that anyone on Daily Kos can "make Hillary better" and now moderation comes down to divining people's "intent" behind any criticisms, and only those with that goal are allowed. Completely ridiculous.

If anything, this makes me even less interested in continuing on Daily Kos.
