The New York Times published two lengthy pieces this week detailing Hillary Clinton’s role in the 2011 NATO bombing of Libya. Both are important documents, and provide much insight into how, as secretary of state for the Obama administration, Clinton played a uniquely hands-on role in the war.

The Times spoke of “Clinton’s deep belief in America’s power to do good in the world,” but did not stress that this belief is rooted in an aggressive militarism. It did quote French President Sarkozy, who fondly remembered how the secretary of state “was tough, she was bullish,” but the Times’ reporting understated Clinton’s belligerence.

Then we leave a crime against humanity to flourish

Hundreds of African refugees and migrants passing through Libya are being bought and sold in modern-day slave markets before being held for ransom, forced labour or sexual exploitation, survivors have told the UN's migration agency.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday that it had interviewed West African migrants who recounted being traded in garages and car parks in the southern city of Sabha, one of Libya's main people smuggling hubs.

People are purchased for between $200 and $500 and are held on average for two or three months, Othman Belbeisi, head of the IOM's Libya mission, said in Geneva.

We spend no time at all trying to solve the wreckage we leave behind.

Our politicians and press move on the the next thrilling instalment of the Empire Strikes Yet Again.

We shredded a nation then walked away as if the lives of those we left to pick up the shattered pieces mean nought. As if their humanity is of no import whatsoever, a lesser race as it were, beings of no consequence.

They we will then turn around and ask "why do they hate us" if "we are that bad why do they want to come here". Forgetting the shattered chaotic scorched earth we left behind, forgetting the will to survive and the hopes for a better life.

Their justification for this global blitzkrieg? We are exceptional.

Every time we vote for the "least bad" we fuel willingly the carnival of carnage. There is no difference between the oligarchs duopoly where the rest of the world is concerned.

Our shining city on the hill? It's merely floodlit by the glare of our outgoing missiles.

Cheer them on at the start of the carnage, hide from the results, then if need be the circuses can take up the slack to drown out the cries of suffering.
