More violence is always the answer

All over the world people are in universal agreement that the solution to the endless, horrible wars in the middle east is to escalate the levels of violence. All the Republican presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton, leaders from both political parties, foreign leaders such as Putin, Presidents Cameron and Hollande, news media pundits and former generals are speaking in one voice.
Everyone, everywhere agrees that bringing more and greater destruction upon Syria, Iraq, and other nations is the ticket to peace and prosperity.

Which makes me wonder why, in 5,000 years of recorded ME history, no one has thought of this before?
Just kill more people! It's such a simple solution.

Just look at how this strategy has worked for us.
We've been bombing Iraq for 24 years and things have never been better in Iraq.
We've been bombing Afghanistan for 14 years and now their opium production is the envy of the world.

Just look at our success against al-Qaeda.
14 years ago they had an army of nearly 200 guys, and now they can barely field 20,000 militants.

However, the real brilliance of this winning strategy of ever increasing violence is when you bring it home.

Unlike every other first world nation, we still discourage murder by doing executions, and look how successful that has been.
Murders almost never happen in the United States anymore. This is especially true in the states with the highest execution rates, like Texas and Florida.

Let's not forget that we put people in prison at higher rates than apartheid South Africa and Stalin's Soviet Union, and look at how that has eliminated crime in the United States.
Plus, by making our prisons into violent Hell-holes we've ensured that recidivism is a thing of the past.

I just wonder why its taken 5,000 years for the world to figure out what every 4th grade bully in a playground knows - that using violence to get people to do what you want is always the right thing to do.
It's never a good time to talk to people you disagree with, because it is always Nuremberg in 1938. It's never, well, any other time or situation in history.
You should always threaten or use force, both between nations and between people, because that's the only thing that people who see things differently will understand.

What's more, bringing death and destruction to other nations, peoples, and communities is the humane thing to do because we are the good guys, and good guys kill in the name of good. Bad guys kill in the name of bad, and that's a totally different thing.

Personally, I'm thrilled that we've finally discovered the key to peace and prosperity, which is death and destruction, and we are so willing to share this discovery with the entire world.

People like you should be required reading. Definition of insanity, yes? That's our foreign policy all right! If we can't actually bomb them back to the Middle Ages, we'll just make it seem that way is how they have to live.

A friend of mine, a Vietnam vet, told me about a veteran of the Iraq War who, when some civilian said, “Thank you for your service,” replied: “I didn’t serve, I was used.” That got me thinking about the many ways today’s veterans are used, conned, and exploited by big gamers right here at home.

Near the end of his invaluable book cataloguing the long, slow disaster of America’s War for the Greater Middle East, historian Andrew Bacevich writes:

Some individuals and institutions actually benefit from an armed conflict that drags on and on. Those benefits are immediate and tangible. They come in the form of profits, jobs, and campaign contributions. For the military-industrial complex and its beneficiaries, perpetual war is not necessarily bad news.

Bacevich is certainly right about war profiteers, but I believe we haven’t yet fully wrapped our minds around what that truly means.
This is what we have yet to take in: today, the U.S. is the most unequal country in the developed world, and the wealth of the plutocrats on top is now so great that, when they invest it in politics, it’s likely that no elected government can stop them or the lucrative wars and “free markets” they exploit.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

From the force to the union shops
The war economy is making new jobs
But the people who benefit most
Are breaking bread with their benevolent hosts

Who never stole from the rich to give to the poor
All they ever gave to them was a war
And a foreign enemy to deplore

Let them eat war

That's how to ration the poor

is that people buy into the government's propaganda that the troops are fighting for our freedoms and to keep us safe from the terrorists.
Meanwhile those terrorists that they are so frightened of were and are being funded by their own country and our allies. But of course they don't know that because we don't have a functioning media anymore that will tell them this.
On SFGate today there's an article about how people are burning their $100 Kapernaki football jerseys because he said he wouldn't stand for the national anthem while the cops are getting away with murdering black people.
Many of the comments were about how so many members of our military died so that he could have the freedom to not stand up.
How could anyone in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Syria or any of the other countries that the US had illegally invaded take away our freedoms? In what way were the military fighting for our freedoms?
And why aren't they aware that it was our government that has taken away so many of our freedoms with the drug war (according to Ray Balko's book, The Rise of the Warrior Cop and when they passed the patriot act.

Your comment reminded me of those great scenes in Network where a terrorist gang was approached to star in a reality series in an effort to boost the network's ratings and ends up becoming very tough production negotiators. The network people don't care as long as the ratings top everyone else. It's all about the bucks to both parties of the agreement. The public be damned.

What’s Google’s and Facebook’s business model (besides giving the government yet another way to spy on the citizenry)?

Advertising.

How do we crack the problem that, as society is currently structured, aside from promoting government propaganda, mass media’s mission is to serve advertising and advertisers?

Russia is next. Well, maybe Iran, and then Russia/China. But who knows, Hillary believes she can multi-task many wars. I believe it was Gates who pushed back on Hillary bombing Libya saying let's finish the wars we got.

that a no-fly zone in Syria would require a minimum of 70,000 "boots on the ground" (a phrase I despise, they are America's sons and daughters, not BOOTS) to provide infrastructure (for enforcement) and support.

That estimate was before Russia decided to throw their hat into Syria.

With the build up of rationale for war with Russia and China is the ultimate realization of humanity's attraction to death cults. Nazis were a death cult. American neocons are a death cult aided by a large contingent of Christian end-timers. Nuclear war will be the finalization of their dreams.

of "righteous acts". Perhaps only a minor quibble but I must add the "God is on Our Side" argument. Ain't that always the case? After all the Saracens and Crusaders had God on their side--so How does God decide who to favor? Hindus and the Muslims have their God(s) on each side. Onward Christian Soldiers. The list goes back to ancient Egypt; Jupiter versus Zeus; Shinto versus everybody; God of Western Catholicism versus God of Byzantine Catholicism; Lutherans versus Catholics; need I go on? Sao with your next edition, please complete your list by including this "proven" way to settle disputes. Now, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition--we still got three or four wars to fight!

This is a Web site to elect Democrats, no matter their faults, and no advocacy for Jill Stein will be tolerated, so you’re not really having a discussion but a smear session, or possibly trying to draw people who like her so you can get them banned. If you really want to talk and discuss both sides, you’ll have to post on a different site.

I was told to rebut the diarist's points or STFU. Ah, such civility.

I responded. "I am here for things other than politics. I will not advocate for third parties at the request of the site owners. So no. If you want to try it, be my guest."

Seems they're getting a tad irritated at the fact that I can point out that their arguments are one-sided without advocating for Jill. I find this highly amusing.

I saw that diary and commented on it. I too thought it was just a smear job by another new Hillary supporter and thought that they were trying to see if anyone would defend her so that they could pile on and get them banned.
You handled it much better than I would have.
Maybe they are afraid the lurkers are thinking of voting for Jill and they have to have their weekly smear jobs against her just in case it takes votes away from Hillary .

said "no matches" (I didn't want to read a bunch of their disgusting comments!). You weren't hidden, were you? Maybe there were a couple Jill smear diaries OT yesterday.

I suspect "Correct the Record" is hard at work trying to make sure Jill doesn't gain ground. After Bernie came so close, I imagine they don't want to take chances. At least they can't reuse the sexism smear this time!

I think it was a set up to see if anyone would defend her and then get HR'd and possibly banned so I wasn't going to take the bait.
I might have written something like you did, or if Jill is actually as bat shit crazy as people on this site think she is, then why bother writing about her?
I have only commented in 5 diaries in more than 3 months and I scan the wreck list daily and don't bother to open hardly any of the political ones.
If the headline is funny I will read it to see the lemmings all say the same thing over 300 times.

Your satire is painfully appropriate. Well done!! I agree with those commenting about our penchant for selling arms...and we are equal opportunity providers. We don't care who we sell to, and if we can sell to both sides in a conflict?...now that is a win win situation

If you believe some of the wilder claims about assassination or Bernie Sanders being clocked in the face, then violence has certainly helped Hillary get to where she wanted to go.

The problem with people who discard violence as a means to power is that they seem to assume that everyone else will as well, and are defenseless whenever someone doesn't.
