Maine Democratic Party Changes rules Re: Super-delegates

During Maine's Democratic Party Convention an amendment was submitted to the rules that would change the way super delegate votes are distributed.

The new rule, which passed to by a voice vote and chants of Bernie!Bernie! also included a call for other states to do the same in the conventions that follow.

This could be a BIG DEAL...

We may finally see some democracy added to the Democratic party and get rid of the power of superdelegates to over-rule the will of the voters.

Although I expect the rules committee's in the upcoming states to be pressured to not adopt similar amendments and to try to prevent them from coming to a voice vote by killing them in committee.

I suspect the DNC was caught unprepared for this one but won't be next time.

Here is a video of the amendment and vote.

And is it binding for 2016? I can't believe they can change this mid-stream through a current voting process.

Halp! What am I missing?

was for 2020, with a non-binding appeal to this year's superdelegates. A step in the right direction, may or may not help this year.

I missed that, I thought it was for it to start immediately at their convention.

Even if not, this needs to be done for the long term good.

But then again, since I am done with the Democratic Party after this election (At least as a member) I don't know why I would hope for them to do anything to prop up that monstrosity anyway.

I look forward to the death (or at least severe weakening) of both current parties.

There doesn't seem to be much media coverage on this but unless I am completely wrong this seems like a pretty big deal with this being the first state convention and it happening.

I really hope there is a big push to get this through at EVERY convention. That would dramatically shift Hillary's undemocratic SD lead...
