Lunch Time Reading: Which websites do you read regularly?
Good afternoon. Having just eaten lunch and checked my top 10 websites, I decided to share my favorites and ask about yours.
Of course, now that I try not to enter TOP, C99 and the Reddit Kossacks for Sanders pages are almost always open in my browser (personal devices, not my work computer).
Then it's on to a quick check of the NY Times, Huffington Post, and www.realclearpolitics.com. These three are good for headline skims maybe twice a day, but I don't normally spend much time on them.
Now that I have a good idea of the day's atrocities, it is time for www.realitychex.com to see what I missed (blog by an exNYTimes commenter who aggregates a lot of news stories and adds her 2 cents).
Www.salon.com, www.alternet.org, www.theintercept.org are also usually on my list. I also periodically go to www.commondreams.org, www.democraticunderground.com, www.thinkprogress.org. Again, all very quickly, because I am either getting ready to start work or taking a quick break from work and it is too tempting to settle in.
So that is my 10, not counting c99 and Reddit.
In the course of my work, I also check www.thehill.com and www.politico.com, Twitter, and I have google alerts set up for about a dozen environmental issues and get some enviro-only subscriptions.
Sometimes, I admit to checking the drudge report or Nat'l Review or The Federalist to see what the Rs are talking about.
I am always interested in hearing about new sites. I know a lot of lefties visit www.prospect.org, www.thenation.com, www.politicususa.com, www.truth-out.org, www.counterpunch.org, www.democracynow.org.
Which sites do you visit?

Yay for the Digby reminder...
CW at realitychex links to digby often. Will check out the other links, thanks!

I used to like Talking Points Memo a lot
but they definitely are a Democratic partisan site. They haven't really bothered to hide their bias in this election cycle.
hmm...sounds familiar. Like some, TOP.
I have to say, one of the best roundups going is Joe Shikspack's Evening Blues. Was always a pure oasis of Truth and kindred spirits at TOP, untethered to partisan bullshit and demagoguery. He's been a consistent beacon of light for a long time for many of us, and I'm so glad to see so many defectors coming his (our) way.
For me over the years, Democracy Now, the Nation, Raw Story, Truthdig, Common Dreams, Counterpunch, Jacobin, The Intercept, the Guardian, NPR's On The Media, Best of the Left podcast, Truthout, In These Times. Taibbi, Greenwald, Schahill, Pierce, Monbiot, Sirota, Naomi Klein, Hedges, Lee Fang, Deray, Shaun King.

hmm,
Facebook - everything shows up there...Salon, Common Dreams, The Hill, local news, funny stuff, pretty stuff... It truly brings you what you want.

Social media is an option
My FB account is strictly fam&friends, and no politics. But I could set up a Twitter like I have for work, but more freedom. And I can like pages on FB without reposting political news. Thanks, dk.

I have two accounts...
One is family and friends. The other is all of the people I blog with. This way, I can keep them seperate.

Depends on what's going on ....
Today, a big terror attack, will have me looking at different news sources than a "normal" news day. On a "normal" day, I check here, the new kossacks_for_sanders subreddit, commondreams, counterpunch, truthdig and truthout and I occasionally stream TYT & RT video content. I try not to expose myself too much to corporate new sources because, you know, I don't trust it to be "fair and balanced" or even accurate.
Oh and how could I forget
The Intercept? Love The Intercept!
Agreed on alt media sources
I try to get a healthy mix, but honestly don't know how much I am absorbing by skimming so much in a day. And, definitely, a big event will change everything up.

kossacks_for_sanders subreddit
Raw Story
Alternet
Talking Points Memo
Huffington Post (occasionally)
Mother Jones (sometimes)
Various environmental sites (as needed, because that is what I teach)
DKOS is almost entirely worthless except to get a link if something hasn't been posted here. The comments derail every single diary. It could be a diary titled, "The Sky is Blue due to Light Refraction," and the comment after the tip jar would likely say, "No it isn't!" and then accuse the author of anti-Hillary propaganda to further their thought cleansing process.
Worthless Dkos site
On dailykos, if you disagree with the site's establishment you WILL get banned. Especially if you mention Israel in a bad light. I am sure there is a group who is monitoring (the Chicago guy for sure) and will sic the group on you who will down rate you into getting banned. Mossad? probably not - just a group of vigilantes acting in coordination...

Too late for me
I was banned like on the 16th or something, one day after the purge commenced. I'm a complete anti-Hillary asshole apparently.

My reading list underwent a change after the Snowden revelations
Much to my shock, re Chelsea Manning or Edward Snowden suddenly some of the Democratic partisan bloggers I had enjoyed up to that point showed themselves to have an anti-transparency, anti-civil-liberties, oh-come-on-you-can-trust-the-military-and-the-Deep-State authoritarian streak.
An authoritarian streak every bit as wide as that of “random right-wing figure of the month” I was supposed to be alarmed about.
