As Long As You Lend a Hand
Please read Dallasdoc's essay and pledge a monthly contribution to Caucus99percent.
We can't let the light of Caucus99 go out, we have to keep it glowing, we have to make it brighter, we're going to make it brighter, because what we're saying here matters, because what we're doing here matters, because what we're going to do next year and the year after that and the year after that is going to matter even more.
Just pledge whatever you can a month, then give a little more when you're able to.
Well it's all right, doing the best you can,
Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand . . .

~
Pledge what you can, give what you can, lend a hand because we're taking this fight for justice, this fight for human rights, this fight for a better world all the way to the end of the line. We're in this together, we're going to speak truth to power until our hearts stop beating, and when they stop beating our words will live on, our actions will live on, the example we set will live on.
Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong,
Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong . . .
We're not done here at C99, we just got started, we're just getting warmed up, we know where we're going and we know how to get there. We know what's up ahead, we know damn well what's up ahead . . .
GATES.
DNC Gates. Clinton Foundation Gates. Two-Party-System Gates. K Street Gates. Wall Street Gates. Beltway Gates. Oligarchy Gates.
I don't have to tell you what we're going to do to those Gates, you know what we're going to do to those Gates . . .
EVERY FUCKING ONE OF THEM.
This isn't Sunday School.
This is as serious as it gets, this is about the survival of democracy, this is about the survival of the environment, this is about We the People keeping the Light of Truth shining. We have to keep it shining here and everywhere, because the warmongers of the political establishment won't stop warmongering and the Wall Street whores of the political establishment won't stop whoring and the election riggers of the political establishment won't stop rigging the machines and the spying psychopaths of the intelligence establishment won't stop spying and the CEO's of the corporate establishment won't stop exploiting their workers, and the hacks of the corporate media won't stop kissing their corrupt asses.
Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey
Well it's all right, you still got something to say . . .
Bernie said it all.
Everywhere.
Maybe the burden got too heavy for him, maybe he just couldn't carry it any more, maybe he let us down.
Or maybe we let him down.
I don't know who let who down, but I know this much--I don't want to see a another Clinton in the White House, I don't want our grandchildren to have to see a Hillary Monument on the National Mall with a big Reflecting Pool in front of it. Filled with blood.
Maybe it won't come to that, maybe Karma will help us out, maybe Hillary's Stronger Together campaign theme bullshit won't last much longer, maybe she'll end up as only a footnote in the history books because Little Miss Warmonger got some payback from Karma . . .
She Saw.
She Had a Seizure.
It might be sooner, it might be later, but Karma is going to get you, Hillary Rodham Clinton. It's going to look you right in the face . . .

In the meantime, everyone here needs to make a monthly pledge, we all need to send a little love to JtC and Joe, just a little love to the people who keep this website going, we need to keep sending that love because We the People have to shine on, because the Truth has to shine on, because Caucus99 has to shine on, because we all have to shine on, like the moon and the stars and the sun.

I'm in for $10 a month.
More when I can.
We have over 2,000 members, we can do this.

You've never been wrong yet . . .
I am in for $20/ month, no direcTV did wonders for my sanity
anyway. This place, c99, is sane and polite.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Caucus99 is an island of sanity in a sea of insanity.
Thank you for lending a hand, riverlover.
Just wrote my check
and included something extra- from the money I saved last month by making my own laundry detergent, courtesy of Personal Resilience thread
Thank you, 42.
And thanks for the link, there are so many things we can do like that to break free from corporate control of our lives.
We're starting with $5/month until we can up the amount.
JtC is letting us know if we can do direct bank to bank transfers. It would cut out the middle man and the reduction for their cut. Also interested in POP money. It's overnight and easy.
You may choose to look the other way, but you can never say again you did not know. ~ William Wiberforce
If you can donate, please! POP Money is available for bank-to-bank transfers. Email JtC to make a monthly donation.
Every amount counts.
It's good that there's a variety of ways to do this.
Thank you for helping out, LeChienHarry.
10 per month since I joined
and 10 per month for a year. Sent check via snail mail. I actually intended to contribute when I joined and did not. Ag. The PayPal was an issue. So now I am done for a year. I love this place. So sane. Happiness is mine.

Thanks, Rusty, for putting this up
It's a much classier diary than mine was, and I thank you for it. Been away today, but just came back and posted my final update. $855 in new monthly donation pledges!
This is an amazing community, and I hope that all our efforts will allow us to keep our home. JtC has been surprised and very moved by the support this community has shown. But he deserves everything we can do to help him, for everything he's given us.
Please help support caucus99percent!
That's great news!
Thank you for your leadership and hard work on this, Dallasdoc. It's so good to see so many people pledging monthly donations.
Hey Rusty...
thank you my brother! And thank you to all my brothers and sisters here in caucusland.
I'm sorry I haven't weighed in earlier but I've had a crazy busy last two days. I'm not going to say any more because I have an update essay planned for tomorrow and I'll explain what's going on.
I love you folks!!
We love you back, Johnny
Can't wait to read your update, so we can figure out what comes next.
Please help support caucus99percent!
We're family, JtC, so many of us here go back a long way,
and we want to be together the rest of the way. Because of Caucus99, we can be. I'll always be grateful to you and to everyone who got this wonderful website and community going, and who have done so much to help it grow.
I'm in for $10/month.
PayPal won't let me set up a recurring donation using my phone, but, if I can remember to pay my monthly rent, I can remember to make a donation to c99p at the same time.
We can all pull this off together.
So hang in there, JtC, and thanks Rusty1776 for the essay.
Only connect. - E.M. Forster
That's how I'm doing it.
I'll just send it in on the 1st of the month.
Thank you for helping out, dancingrabbit.
Great essay, Rusty 1776, and thanks for stepping up. I was
particularly struck by 42's and dancingrabbit's comments. Gonna talk about them in my next essay.
Please consider subscribing monthly, to help keep c99 going.
I'm looking forward to your next essay, David.
Your work here is very much appreciated.
I'm NOT family here
This site feels like going to a place where everybody knows everybody else - except me. You know each others' initials, talk in acronyms, and obviously share a history of fighting for progressive causes. What you don't have is the will to welcome and orient newcomers. How hard would it be to divulge how much you need to stay afloat for a year, and offer members contribution levels according to income? How hard to have a reference section which defines frequently used acronyms here?
I understand that it's comfortable to be chummy with those you know here, but it's offputting to newbies, unless you don't care about growing.
Hello, Writerinres.
Many of us migrated from another site where we were, basically, asked to leave because we were Bernie Sanders supporters. However, many of us were on that other site since it's inception in 2004 or earlier (don't know because I didn't join until 2011, although I lurked from 2008).
I agree, it is not easy to be the newbie in town. Here is a guide for you: http://caucus99percent.com/content/welcome-new-members-0. It is actually a link located in the upper left hand corner of any page you are on and is titled, "Welcome, New Members."
I also realize how hard it is to join a new group like this. When I first joined the other site (referred to as TOP), I felt much like you have written here. All the acronyms made me feel left out. Many of the people at TOP would just laugh at me when I asked what they meant, but many more were kind and generous with explanations. I want to say that I feel we are a friendly community and will help you if you just ask. We don't bite unless you ask us to vote for hrc - who the majority do not support (myself included).
The essay by Dallas Doc wrote Saturday did, in fact, say that we need to raise a recurring $4,000/month to make this site work without ads, and with JtC and joe shikspak (site owners) staying on and maintaining the site. Since many here are living on poverty wages, while others can afford much more, we feel people will donate, on a monthly basis, what they can afford. Me, for example, I've been in financial hell for almost two years. Lucky for me, that financial hell is going to get some relief in September, so I'll be able to afford $10/month and will think about upping it in 2017, if my financial hell gets more relief. So, you see, people really ARE contributing according to their own budget.
I hope this answered some of your questions. I'm sure others will chime in. If you feel we are off-putting, there is really nothing we can do but offer our open door to you and stand back while you decide whether or not you wish to enter. We'd be happy to have you.

lovely said and that's what makes this site a relief for people
who feel they are not by default "brothers" or "sisters". Thank you, Raggedy Ann.

Sensitivity and empathy, expressed so very well.
Thank you, Raggedy Ann.
I believe the $4,000
number is what jtc needs to stay here, not the actual cost to run this site. If I knew Drupal I could run it for half that (as I have other sources of income), and pay Jack or Pat or someone half of that to help keep an eye on the place. And, I'm not beating up on jtc. If he needs $4,000 a month to essentially replace his current income to work here full time, then that's what it takes. Not a thing wrong wit that, is fair and reasonable! Just saying it doesn't cost that much to operate C-99, and maybe there are other ways to do it. Personally, I have no druthers as I'm going to contribute x amount of dollars regardless, but we had a one owner operator at TOP.
the little things you can do are more valuable than the giant things you can't! - @thanatokephaloides. On Twitter @wink1radio. (-2.1) All about building progressive media.
Well, it's all working out for us, anyway.
I couldn't be happier to have JtC and joe made whole with this drive. They deserve much credit for what we've put them through these past months. Now they know how much we appreciate their dedication to us and how much we value the platform they have provided. Remember - it's about the people.

Hey Writerinres, it's not so that everyone here knows
everyone else. A bit of backstory: Many people here migrated b/c the owner of another site got real cranky and authoritarian beginning well..... (depends on whom you talk to)... but basically in February and March of this year he forbade any real negative talk about the current democratic nominee. So lots of people left the site and found a new home here.
We welcome new users w open arms.
Fwiw, I don't know anyone here personally and recognize maybe 2 dozen names from that other site.
Anyhow, welcome
Don't believe everything you think.
Welcome Writerinres...
many members do go way back and have associations and online friendships existing for years. Thank you for reminding the community that this could be disconcerting to new members.
I can assure you you of this: some of the best and articulate people I've had the pleasure of knowing and sharing space with in life contribute here, particularly the founders; so in that good spirit, please continue to comment and share as I hope, in time, you will discover the magic of this forum.
Thank you for sharing and again, a hearty welcome.
Good afternoon, Writerinres!
We are quite a friendly crowd, and usually don't bite, unless someone comes in sword-swinging. And I have seen your handle, so are are testing the waters. If acronyms you don't get are off-putting, ask! There are acronyms I don't understand (not all are government) and I was always taught the good grammar and writing of explaining an acronym or abbreviation once, in introduction, and then relying on memory. So we get careless about that, but we are most def not a clique. Many voices, many perspectives, decades or centuries of history, but not together. SO welcome!
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Hi Writerinres, others have explained in their comments
about how many here know each other since a long time (either online friends or may be even in real space), mostly probably through the dailykos site, which exists since 2003. They all were engaged in the other place, TOP and i think many felt they got their thoughts and free speech a little bit too much muzzled and got condescending treatments over there. For some that may have happened a very, very long time ago and was never forgotten, for, some for just a little less long time ago, for others just during the last two years or even less. The history is a long one, often around 10 years and more. Everyone has its own story.
Though I lurked and commented for a long time on dailykos, I don't know any of the long-time brothers here and don't remember why and when they got frustrated and/or appalled of the other site. Everyone may have another reason for having been unhappy over there and wanting to leave.
The other site started to treat them in ways that hurt them and that site started to not reflect their own ideological persuasions any longer. All of it became seriously bad during the last seven months so those friends started to think to build their own place, which you see here.
The one very, very amazing thing about this place is that it allows to speak your mind freely, allows more diverse opinions and still tries to be very civil, even very friendly, humane, like you would find in a functional family .. like getting into siblings fights, parents pulling their hair out over those kiddos, but nobody forgets that we need a home and a family at the end and we think we know when to stop fighting to remain friends.
I would say to achieve that for a longer period of time on a blog is one of the most impossible tasks you can engage in and if it works, it's a little miracle and we should be thankful to anyone, who helps to make this place a family home.
I am a longtime "outsider", don't understand most of the acronyms til today and really didn't know anyone either, have not been involved in building this place, stumbled into it the way I stumbled into dailykos in 2004. But I always felt that everyone was extremely helpful and understanding, often really deeply engaged in making me feel welcome, help through some depression moments despite my "otherness" and not being a "sister".
So, not being family means nothing to the people here. They are inviting you always to eat with them at their dinner/kitchen table and you will love their "food" once you eat them. It's tasty... Try it ... and be welcomed ... and Bon Appetit.

Why do you believe this?
If you believe this, I wouldn't mind knowing what you're looking for....?
Upped my pledge
I started at $5 per month and have upped to $10 per month. This place and Progressive Wing do my soul good.
Thank you, cindyoh.
Finally figured out the PayPal
problem I was having and I'm in for $15 per month.
