At Least I Like Popcorn (NOT about TOP)

With apologies to the Dreaded Site Meta #3 diary, I just need to vent and I couldn't find the latest open thread, so... here I am.

My title, At Least I Like Popcorn, was actually the last line of a rant I just put on a friendly Reddit thread (they are, really, and it's been refreshing). For context, the thread was about the FBI and the emails, and what might be found - relating to serious issues, top secret shit and national security and things we should all rightly be concerned about.

For background just google "huma abedin terrifying email"

My rant:

I have a close friend who's a big Bernie supporter who always stays well plugged in, and a month ago we were talking about sourcing and he looks kind of guilty, and then say's there's one odd site in the bunch he follows, and don't think he's lost it, but in an effort to keep up with the other side he follows Breitbart as his "window" into the right. He was quick to add that 90% of what's there is National Enquirer level crazy, but sometimes there will be a good article covering an issue that does turn out to be something that crosses over into the mainstream of news. It reminded me of the scene in Men In Black, where they used the National Enquirer for leads on real aliens.

Right now Right-wing blogs are having a field day with this, and it's only day two. Now imagine once the emails go public.

THIS is why I've always been worried about Hillary as our nominee, this ever sinking feeling that real goddam issues are going to be pushed aside for another Clinton fucking media circus so that both sides have cover to keep screwing the rest of us.

At least like popcorn.

Could I care less is there's anything to this sideshow bubbling up on the right? Uh... let me check... umm... NO. And that's why this kind of circus that follows the Clintons, that WILL follow the Clintons, that the damn media has already come right out and stuck a stick in our eye and told us it's all about ratings, baby, so first it's Trumps idiocy over issues, and now we're going to find a treasure trove of STUPID FUCKING EMBARRASSING PERSONAL SHIT to go breathless over, and our political discourse devolves into a stadium stands equivalency of the Eat Shit/Fuck You cheer.

AAAAAARRRG!!!!!

Issues? [sigh] Someone pass the popcorn, and hey, no bogarting.

I have for a long time read and (gasp!) even commented on Red State. Since I seem to only live in places with a lot of republicans I am very at home with being diplomatic and sharing ideas with them. Yes they are going nuts over there too.

There are a lot of people who compare this year to Nixon and McGovern. They may not be far off Hillary could very well be the Nixon part of the equation.

It really goes to the issue of why I refuse to vote for her.
Many of the various scandals the republicans dragged from the Clinton closet had a grain of truth with a common theme which was they make really stupid decisions. But to go one better they don't seem to learn from them.

to see what the media is going to run with because I think that is where a lot of the mainstream media also gets its "news."

Slightly OT: I think Sanders has got the message. The media is not interested in issues. So what is he doing to combat this? Simply beat them at their own game. In case many of you have missed a lot of the interviews that Sanders has done lately, those interviews are popping up due to certain things the campaign has done. Four really good examples are the Sanders' taxes returns, the debate debate. super delegates and HRC's lies about fossil fuel donations.

The media grabs on to these sideshow topics and schedules an interview with Sanders. When they ask Sanders questions about these topics, he pretty much dismisses the sideshow questions and turns the conversation around to talking about the real issues. Pretty smart in my book.

look at RW sites. Know your enemy, and all that. I skip the ones that have gone totally nuts, like Breitbart, but I used to have a tab open there, at Free Republic, and at RedState. I don't comment, though I contemplate it at times when they go off the deep end because they clearly don't understand Democrats.

I don't blame the Clintons for RWers foaming at the mouth to the point of blaming everything and anything on them. I blame them for giving RWers actual reasons to start foaming at the mouth. I used to shrug it all off as the "vast RW conspiracy", but when I actually started looking into things, reading the published reports of legal investigations, there was always something there. Not enough to prove criminal wrongdoing, but enough to show that RWers didn't suck it all out of hot air -- and this also explains why they have been relentless: They know something is there, and they resent that the Clintons always have gotten away with it. And that feeds the conspiracy theories.

I am watching this happen on our own side now, and it's really opened my eyes to exactly why the Clintons are so bad for our political process. They are craven, profoundly selfish opportunists who skate sloppily along the edge of laws and regulations for their own convenience or enrichment, and they don't give a fuck what that does to the country. The latest installment, the whole email server saga -- which is costing the tax payer a lot of money, which I don't see anybody talk about -- was a completely unforced error even if one assumes nothing criminal underlies it. She had to have known how that would look if it came out. The NSA warned her about her mobile security. And yet she blithely went ahead and did it anyway, consequences be damned, because she wanted to.

I am tired of defending them. They deserve getting covered in mud because they got repeatedly into the sty with the pigs, over and over again. I resent that we expend so much of our potential political capital on their selfishness. I hate how we don't pay enough attention to really important issues because the Clintons are incessant poison gifts that keep on giving and distracting everybody. I do NOT want 4 more years of this.

So yeah, I hear your rant and I raise you another bag of dry, choking popcorn.

Agree. I also don't want four more years of the their drama and self enrichment at the expense of us.

The last time I looked, there was at least 22 "scandals" that they have been involved in. That seems like an awful lot for there to be no wrong doings. They bring this on themselves and use the whole RW narrative to cover their tracks. Can you think of anyone else in public life that had so many separate questionable dealings?
