It's Too Soon!

I don't know if the Clinton Campaign is spinning information about Bernie possibly endorsing her next week or not. But, if these are real possibilities, it's too soon and not right for a number of reasons.

The Republican Nominee

Do we really know who will emerge from the Republican Convention? That nominee and the VP pick from their side will be known three to four days before the Democrats meet in Philadelphia. This gives everyone a chance to see who they are really backing.

He promised.

Yeah, yeah, I know snowed again. Or working inside the machine.

Bernie asked for permits for rallys the night/day before the Dem Convention.

But there's more...

Both Director Comey and the DOJ are reopening (we hope) investigations into perjury in front of Congress and how things were handled at State.

Comey left a barn door open so wide you could drive a tank through it. Chaiffetz is gladly driving. This is breaking today.

Bernie should (like I know how to advise or what is going on) take a step back, go to his core constituents, talk to us for realz, and wait for the Convention.

Am I missing something? This is my first post other than to comment but I wanted to gather this all up.

Also too...

World wide banking and finance are really shaky; the climate - terrifyingly shaky; lots of wars and displacement; corporations running rampant globally; bad doers needing to be confronted. And so much more.

Incrementalism which is some kind of code for going backwards or deeper into the hole, is not going to cut it. Neither is US exceptionalism. The worm is turning in Europe. No CEDA. No TTIP. And fights with US backed corporate interests.

We need smart people who see beyond the end of their pocket book and actually care what the rest of us need, let alone want.

I'm open to suggestions. The floor is yours.

the only one I know of admitted they were talks regarding her endorsement, which I hope fail fail fail. But it doesn't sound like it.

Sanders confirmed the discussions during an interview Wednesday night on MSNBC.

"I think at the end of the day, there is going to be a coming together, and we're going to go forward together and not only defeat Trump, but defeat him badly," he said.

MSNBC's Chris Hayes then asked, "You're not denying the report that there are talks about a possible endorsement?"

Sanders replied: "That's correct."

Favors Are Owed! I wonder what these $100K IOUs have written on the back side.

In a four-day period last week, Clinton held 10 fundraisers, sprinting from New York to California. Attendees were asked to give $100,000 apiece for two of the events: a reception at the Chicago home of M.K. and J.B. Pritzker and a breakfast at a Mediterranean restaurant facing the San Francisco Bay.

Hillary is going to be a frigging millstone on the down ballot candidates necks dragging them down too.

An HRC candidacy is gonna bring the Republicans and a LOT of independents out of the woodwork to vote against her no matter who her opponent is.

As a former Republican I still have lots of friends on that side of the aisle and their loathing for the Clinton's is both uniform and more entrenched than that which they have for Obama.

And that is really saying something, because I wouldn't call them fans of his either, lol!

The Republicans could run a Deviled Ham sandwich against her and still take the presidency.

the 2008 election cycle. All too clear this could happen again, plus war with Russia on the horizon. If all else fails, the duopoly will drive us to a candidate based in fear. There is real talk of replacing Trump at the Republican convention, and I believe the Democrats are watching closely to see the fallout with these latest Hillary revelations. I understand her approval ratings have taken a hit, since it has become clear she lied her ass off to Congress. Chavetz will work this angle to death between now and the election. I believe the Democrats are prepared to replace Hillary if the heat gets to her, but they have to get passed the nomination to exclude Bernie Sanders.

It should be an interesting couple weeks, and even more interesting if the duopoly thinks the presidency is in danger of an upset from outside their system. Crashing the economy and/or starting a shooting war are not at all outside the realm of possibility.

Regardless of whether this particular story is true or not, it is obvious that at the very least, Bernie's people and Hillary's people are talking and negotiating about where they go from here. And that is absolutely the right thing for them to be doing. Because as long as there is any chance for anything good to come out of the convention, they should keep right on trying to make that happen. And that remains true even if the outcome of that negotiation is a formal endorsement from Bernie. Because if that's what he feels he has to do in order to advance his goals, then that's what he has to do.

From the beginning, we have kept pointing out that Bernie has a 30 year record. And while most of the focus has been on the fact that it is a record of 30 years of integrity and consistency, the other side of the coin is that it is also a record of 30 years of working with the opposition to get things done. Long before the integrity issue became the top priority because of the contrast with Hillary, most of the buzz about Bernie had been his remarkable ability to work across the aisle to negotiate compromises that advanced the causes he believed in. Yeah, that's right - the dreaded "B" word - bipartisanship. While everyone else has been using it as a meaningless buzzword (or worse), Bernie has been living it - successfully.

So if - IF - he does come out and endorse Hillary at some point, I'm not going to clutch my pearls and faint, shrieking "Oh my god, he sold out". I'm going to look at that 30 year record and assume that he saw an opportunity to trade that endorsement for some significant concessions that he honestly believes will advance our cause.

But I can't believe this comment got 13 upvotes. There is no good to come of this, no lasting compromise that will be sustained by Hillary and her cabal. Wake up people, not going to happen.

But a better platform would give those Dems with integrity a standard to hold her too. It would make it a little more difficult for her to triangulate with the ease the Clintons did in the 90's.

By the way...I'm voting for Stein. But I don't see the harm in coming at progressive electoral goals from all direction. The Greens, the WFP, Dems who actually give a shit....great, whatever ends up working. Just so long as we get some decent legislation passed.

The party and platform seem completely divorced from the Executive. The concessions will have to be some how more meaty or connected to policies in office.

Thanks for posting this, LeChienHarry. I've also been thinking the timing is abysmal. Too close on the heels of Comey who pretty much told America that Hillary is dishonest, careless and should have her security clearances revoked. In other words, she is not fit to be president.

Your point that the Republican convention is a big unknown is a legitimate concern. Comey's statements created a clearer path to the White House if they only have a candidate that has a better chance than Trump at beating her. Ryan, for instance.

The TPP is a BFD to my mind and to many Bernie supporters. Perhaps more important and certainly more all-encompassing than any other issue. To concede without that is counter to all the campaign has stood for. Not a deal breaker? I think it is.

"Taking it all the way to the convention" means just that.

I really hope you are right that these hints at concession prior to the convention are straight out of the rumor mill, manufactured, spin.

So again, thanks. Nicely done.

I supported Bernie to the fullest extent I could possibly have supported him. I still support his efforts to take the Democratic Party left of Third Way. I believe he is a basically good person. Does that mean I think everything he says and does is correct? NO.

I believe that I have good principles and a good mind. I decide what I will do, just as Bernie decides what he will do. If his conscience leads him to endorse Hillary and urge party unity, that's his prerogative and, also, that's on him. My conscience tells me to stop voting for the alleged lesser of two evils.

Question: Who was the greater danger to the Trojans, members of the Greek army who fought them openly, as an army, or the Greeks inside the "Trojan" horse? Republicans fight the bad fight openly. Center right Democrats fight the bad fight by climbing inside the Trojan horse and taking over Troy from inside its gates. The same companies, including the Koch brothers, who back Republicans backed center right Democrats.

In my analogy, I guess they would they would be the wealthy "deciders" of Greece. The deciders, members of the Greek army fighting openly and members of the Greek army inside the Trojan horse all had the same objective: kill and defeat the Trojans. I am not voting for the objectives of the Koch brothers. Without strong pushback, the right rules this country and, to me, that is a bad thing. Center right Democrats do not push back--and don't let kabuki fool you. Democrats can appear as liberal as they think is good for their re-election while Republicans control both houses of Congress.

For any liberal living in a strong red state or a strong blue state, voting Green should be a no brainer, IMO. Others may need to wrestle with their consciences more. However, if we do not make a strong statement in this election, positive change will take a long, long time, if ever it happens at all.

As an aside how much will our votes matter, anyway? The Unfairness Doctrine now guides media, instead of the Fairness Doctrine, and only an ostrich or a denier still has 100% confidence in totally clean elections.

If anyone's conscience tells them to vote for any known and destructive evil rather than a non-corporate Green Party interested in survival and democracy, perhaps that conscience needs re-calibration?

Indies now form the largest voting group in America; if they and aware Dems and Republicans along with, of course, Greens, vote for Jill Stein, doesn't that make for a landslide victory for the people over the billionaires, the corporations and their corporate Parties and corporate coups giving them the 'legal' power of actual life and death over the public in their pursuit of maximized profits drained from the people and countries involved in these privately arranged 'trade deals'?

Bernie would have won this primary, without the massive voter suppression and cheating for The Anointed One, lacking a conscience herself but supposedly niggling that of others into voting for her billionaire/corporate overlord's hostile corporate take over not only of America but the world? How does this differ from the Republicans? The TPP was initiated by Bush and promoted by Hillary Clinton, after all; either way, it goes through - so why not go outside the box they try to tell you you're trapped in and evade both evils?

Even if Bernie doesn't manage something himself, the Green Party is an actual democratic political party concerned with the state of the country, the remains of the environment forming our only life support system, the people and their last likely opportunity of survival rather than sacrificing all of the above for billionaires and corporate interests to drain and pollute to destruction, as Hillary Clinton/other corporate Dems such as Biden and any Republican will.

Voting has come down to life and death; choose one. Go Green.

And be prepared to start fighting corruption, starting with the continuing massive cheating of the DNC and their funders as well as that of the Republicans and their funders.

Loved your essay and your detached comment:

We need the planet to put down its fists and pick up the construction tools.

Your thesis is that Bernie will endorse Clinton, if she is the nominee, is, as you indicate, truly unimportant. mMy thinking, which might not be any different than yours is: Bernie will not surrender (i.e., endorse) $hillary until she goes from presumptive nominee to actual nominee. He has mentioned several times about this endorsement-in-waiting, that despite what he says, Hillary is going to have to make her case to us, the Berners. In other words, I expect (worst case scenario) if he does "endorse" $hillary, it be no louder than a whisper. As several commenters above in this thread have noted, Bernie's promise was explicitly to defeat Donald Trump. What happens if Orangeman is not the nominee?
