So, Trumph is considering an EO to eliminate "anchor babies". There are Constitutional questions about this.

BHO implemented DACA by EO.

Was he just doing so based on overriding legislation passed by Congress or was he overriding Constitutional dictates?

Believe it or not, our MSM is choosing not to address this question. At least none that I can find.

I believe it is the 14th amendment which states that anyone born in the USA is an American citizen. The reason, then, right after the Civil War, was to extend the benefits and protections of full citizenship to former slaves.

If the president thinks that provision of the 14th should be altered, there is a procedure for doing so.

I think we ought to revisit the 13th Amendment, which outlaws the ownership of one human by another (slavery) BUT fails also to outlaw the buying and selling of human beings. I think prohibition of BOTH ownership and traffic in human beings should be in our constitution, and, yes, that might indeed affect adoptions, dowries and arranged marriages in general. As to the latter, if that is a part of your culture which you don't want to give up, maybe you ought not be living in the USA.

It actually is, as one cannot buy or sell what one cannot own.

Technically, when the pot head tells the cop "that stash isn't mine", he's correct. Smile

But having trafficking being explicitly prohibited is a good idea, though, for the reasons you specify among others.

The period belongs here. What Abraham Lincoln said about the United States -- that it could not survive divided against itself, half slave and half free -- applies to our whole Planet as well. If slavery (including bride trafficking and arranged marriages) is wrong at all, it's wrong everywhere, will or nill.

@thanatokephaloides but we really can't be legislating for other countries. I recall in Stockton, CA, in the 1990s, a Muslim teenaged woman ran away from an arranged marriage because she wanted to finish HS and, I think, go on to college. The law was on her side, but call in programs discussing the case were inundated with Moslem, self-IDed as such, callers claiming that the American authorities didn't understand their culture. It is a part of national sovereignty that we get to decide what kinds of behavior don't get to cross our borders. And I am with you, there should be an absolute and vigorously enforced prohibition on any and all forms of enslavement and people trafficking.

stated on its blog that Trump himself rents luxury apartments to wealthy foreign pregnant women who are looking to have their newborns qualify for American citizenship. Now, what their authority is, IDK. But that is T-rump, one set of standards for the wealthy--winners in his mind--and another for everyone else.

If the allegation from DWT is true, a newsperson worthy of the name would be bringing it up at the next WH press briefing.

I think it is a ploy to get the public on board with the far right's coveted Constitutional Convention.

Melania didn't come here legally and if Trump passes this then his kid should be the first one on the plane to where his mom came from. And what about his other kids? Was Ivana here legally when they got married?

Trump has kicked out 5,000 immigrants that joined the military in order to get citizenship, but he has been kicking them out before they serve their whole time. Gawd what an asshole!
