Hillary, Pete, and Bernie

Hillary Just. Won't. Go. Away.
And she still only punches down and left.

Clinton urged voters to ask themselves, “Who do you think can win? Because if you don’t win, you can’t govern. And who can best govern at a very difficult time in American history.”

If this sounded like an implicit critique of her other big 2016 rival Bernie Sanders, that notion was enforced when DeGeneres added: “It seems to me, more than ever, that we need somebody who’s going to go in and be able to steer this ship in the right direction instead of going to the extreme.”

Every time she opens her mouth she reminds everyone why we hate her, and that she hates Bernie, and that Bernie winning would upset her and prove her wrong.
Coming from a person who believed that Trump couldn't win, why should we care what she thinks?

Speaking of hubris, Mayor Pete makes an interesting claim.

Initially, it appeared that Pete Buttigieg–the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana– would accumulate the most state delegate equivalents of any presidential candidate. But as the results continued to become public, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders narrowed the gap to nearly 0.1 percent. That occurred as the state party began to include the results of satellite caucuses, the new addition to this year’s Caucuses as a way to increase access for people to the process.

Those numbers became a source of contention, according to sources close to the results process. Sources say that Buttigieg’s campaign contends the state party computed the state delegate equivalents incorrectly and gave too many of them to Sanders. That error, Buttigieg’s campaign believes, could give an overall victory to Sanders.

Wow. I gotta hand it to Pete. His lack of shame ranks up there with Trump and Hillary.

Meanwhile, Bernie finally got around to declaring victory in Iowa.

While it is tempting to get bitter about how the Dem establishment and MSM tried to screw Bernie yet again.
The fact is that Iowa ended up helping Bernie in every way.

iowa_2.PNG

If the final vote shapes up that way, it will be a dream scenario for Sanders. It’s not clear that Warren’s campaign can survive consecutive disappointments in the first two nominating contests. She’s already polling well behind in South Carolina and Nevada, and losing more momentum won’t help. Sure, it’s possible that Warren could limp to Super Tuesday after a string of third- and fourth-place finishes, but even if she does, many of her supporters might defect to Sanders, since he’ll be the progressive with a promising chance of winning. As for Biden: He might still be able to pull out a win in South Carolina, but he’ll still look weak, and between Buttigieg and Mike Bloomberg—whose entire strategy is premised on a strong performance on Super Tuesday, and thus is 100 percent guaranteed to be around for it—Biden won’t have the moderate lane to himself.

In short, Buttigieg is helping to consolidate the left and split the moderates, creating ideal conditions for a Sanders win. Meanwhile, there’s still little sign the man from McKinsey has a real shot himself. Even with his recent success, he’s still polling at fifth nationally, now behind Bloomberg, and hasn’t shown a pulse with minority voters yet. If he does somehow manage to knock out Biden entirely, it might actually be counterproductive. According to Morning Consult, the most popular second choice among the ex-VP’s voters is Sanders, followed by Bloomberg, and then Warren (this is your regular reminder that Americans don’t vote strictly based on ideology). There’s a reason that FiveThirtyEight is giving the democratic socialist a roughly 50 percent shot at the nomination right now, versus 1 in 30 for Buttigieg.

The Iowa State Democratic Party announces that 100% of the vote count is in and that PB won the State Delegate Equivalent count.

Cuomo dishes it to him on a silver platter. PB giggles, "It feels great that we won!" Nothing like collusion and orchestration there.

I went to the Des Moines Register site and found that they had the list for 99.9 percent of the vote in. One precinct's votes wasn't included. I wonder if it was a satellite location that would have changed the SDE results.

So PB won the SDE count by less than .1%. That's less that one-tenth of one percent. 564 - 562. Which doesn't mean doodly on a national level.

The actual national convention delegate count was not on the site.

Of course, these numbers are still questionable given all the weird coin flips and the byzantine rules and formulas in place to determine the SDEs. And other issues like people not be given the opportunity to change registration at the satellite locations.

So based on the 99.9 % tally, Bernie won the first alignment by 6114 votes . 43,671 - 37,557. So his total went up as his percentage win was 25% - 21%.

Even after she left that position many countries still donated millions to it, but that all came to a screeching halt when she lost the election. After that people donated to the McCain foundation.

Meanwhile, Bernie finally got around to declaring victory in Iowa.

Bernie is very skilled at the "game" of politics. He has been from the time he started decades ago. I was, personally, surprised he was able to do this announcement this early. But he waited until he had a firm foundation for what he needed to say. Also, please notice, he did not allow the questioners to prod him into the death spiral of speculation.

I am no political savant, so while I can appreciate his mastery, I can not advise or predict the best course of action on his part.

Before folks claim Bernie is laying down, they should first look into the matter. There is also the issue of the results from one precinct not being released, at least as I saw the listing in the Des Moines Register. I'm still wondering if those results were from a satellite location.

@PriceRip
that even though Bernie won, the public perception of those not deeply involved is that Buttigieg whipped Bernie's butt because that's what they hear constantly on the news.
DNC is helping this by releasing numbers that correspond to their narrative rather than reality.

So Bernie lost, even though he won. He's even getting fewer delegates than Mayo Cheat.

It's time to replace these arcane "awards" with straight out preference voting. The caucus format with a few hours of discussion before voting but no "adjustments" or coin flips.

@Wally the IA cactus muddle very well -- emphasize his pop vote win, by a fair margin, and greatly discount this SDE meaninglessness. Emphasize that it's time to move on to the NH primary.

Meantime, someone please explain to me why anyone should give a flying fig about SDEs. It's the PV and the national delegates which result that count, not the friggin' SDEs. Am I missing something about how SDEs somehow dictate the allocation of national delegates?

Antiquated indeed. Prior to this year's revamped caucus, only SDE totals were announced, not the raw vote totals. So understandably the MSM ran with the SDE allocations. That's all they had. But there's no excuse this time for the MSM pubbing them when the PV totals were (eventually) made available.

CNN has been particularly awful at confusing these various ways of counting the numbers, and the normally sharp, attention-to-detail, legally-trained Chris Cuomo suddenly gets stupid by failing to clearly point out which candidate got the most voter votes, which is what most viewers need to know. I doubt if all this is by accident. I understand his interview with Pete Bootajudge the other night was a love fest, as if Chris was a paid campaign staffer. I am going to have to return to calling him Fredo again.

Perfect for the Democratic party bigwigs. SDEs let Democrats craft the outcome they want in Iowa all while blandly complaining that the Electoral College (SDE on a national level) is unfair and has to go.

Interesting Historical Note

In the five presidential elections where the loser won the popular vote but lost the election (1824, 1876, 1888, 2000, 2016), four of the losers were Democrats.

The fifth election, in 1824, all candidates ran as Democratic-Republicans. Andrew Jackson won the popular vote by 10.5% but lost the presidency to John Quincy Adams. The loss inspired Jackson and his supporters to create the Democratic Party. So in a way, all who lost the presidency despite winning the popular vote were Democrats.

What the final poll said? If one is dealing with an election that shows all sorts of "problems" the first thing someone looks at would be the polling. There was a poll on January 10 which showed him with a drop of ten points. What happened?

Speaking of what happened, there still isn't a coherent explanation about anything about the Shadow. Why didn't it work? Did some precincts work and some not work? With the same software? If pranksters were blocking the backup phone number, who would that be? Those phone calls couldn't be tracked?

We know from Black Hawk precinct how the software screwed up. How does a software screw up so intentionally in Black Hawk and not across the state?

Has the DNC said anything about why they allowed that software to be used?

If had had my whole cup of coffee I'd have a lot more questions, but those are pretty good for starters.

@WaterLily . Certainly they're irrelevant to us, but to the extent that they are still trusted by a lot of people, they're relevant. In the end, it's all about numbers. We can counter this particular lie by just quoting or showing the actual counts -- which demonstrate Bernie's victory. This one's easy. But we should not let them undermine Bernie's exceptional honesty. Even Trump recognizes that Bernie's for real. It's one of his greatest strengths and one of the places they'll try to attack him on.
