Friday Photography - Mexican Moments
Submitted by janis b on Fri, 09/15/2017 - 7:13pm
Good evening all.
A few photos from a brief stop in Mexico for my nephew's wedding, on my way back home.
Because of a tropical storm that caused quite extensive flooding, the airport was closed and roads were impassable. That meant that half the quests were unable to get to the wedding. The evening of the wedding though was peaceful and clear, and the intimacy of a small group in such a beautiful location was really very nice.
Be safe and well!

what is in the first photo?
I like the suggestive intimacy in number two and four.
Great to see you back. Stay safe and well.

Hi mimi
It's so nice to see you, as always.
Those are palm trees whose fronds are covered in netting, folded sun umbrellas, and the moon!
I'm glad you enjoyed the more intimate ones. I debated about whether or not to include them because of their personal nature, but I liked the mood they created, and they were a reflection of one of the very few serene moments I had there.
Wishing you well.
This and that
Some shots from the last three weeks.

Hi Socialprogressive
I love the bouquet of colourful fireworks. It's almost as entrancing as your astronomical eclipse photos. Is that first photo a landscape you saw on your road trip, north of San Diego?
Hi Janis
I'm glad you liked the fireworks shot. The first photo is the south fork of the Payette river that I took while I was in Idaho for the eclipse.

Nothing lifts the spirits like a happy dawg
Charlie likes to take her time during our walks and lags so far behind with her nose down and tail in the air.
I finally call her to catch up with Abby and me and she comes a running with a grin on her face. So sweet.

Hey Janis. Lovely, evocative photos.
Your title and photos made me think of a great, sultry song by one of my favorite female artists...
Concrete Blonde "Mexican Moon" (live on David Letterman)
How is she not one of the top female artists of the past 25 years, known to all in this country? Miley Cyrus, Kate Perry, Britney Spears, et al - sheer, corporate crap.
Johnette deserves to be right up there with folks like Chrissy Hynde and Sinead O'Connor.
On a personal note, we're on countdown. Due date is tomorrow for the second one. Hard to believe...

How exciting for you two
Good luck tomorrow and don't forget to post pictures or at least let us know how your wife and baby are doing. Do you know what you're having?

We're opting not to know, again.
Thanks for the well wishes, snoopydawg.
We look at that two ways: for millennia parents to be had no idea what they were having. And in a world in which there seems to be less and less room for surprise we're not going to spoil this.
No online presence either, aside from a private photo gallery that family members and select friends can access.
Think it's pretty creepy that new parents plaster their newborns all over social media. No thanks. I loathe the surveillance state and want as little to give them as possible.
Not that I wouldn't possibly consider sharing with the C99 family, if there was a secured way (though my partner would probably balk at even that)

Hi Bollox
Your titles are equally enjoyable as your photos ; ).
You're welcome.
All 3 of my beagles have been photographed doing this
Beagles love to scrounge around and when they find something interesting, they find a place to bury it.
I have been a brat and after they get done burying their prize, I'll dig it up and the look on their faces is priceless.
Thanks for tonight's posting, Janis.

Was that a "how dare you" look!
My brother had a wonderful beagle named "Clyde" (named after an exceptional NY Knicks basketball player). He was also very entertaining.
They look like they want to kick my butt for doing that
I took my first one backpacking and she would take one piece at a time and go off in different directions to bury it. I have no idea what she was thinking. She's the one who started this when we went camping. She was so sneaky about taking off when no one was watching and one day she came back to camp carrying a pancake stuffed in her mouth. None of my other dawgs did what the beagles did.

Hi, Janis - Heartily echo Mimi's sentiments--great
to see you!
I've figured that you've been very busy visiting stateside. It's good to know that everything's okay.
Your photos are very striking and lovely. Glad that you enjoyed visiting/attending your nephew's wedding. Sorry that the timing was sorta lousy, weather-wise. We're still looking at the state of Puebla as a locale to spend several months a year, and, as soon as we get the exact date set (for Mr M's retirement) we'll be traveling south of the Border, too. We have no worries about the drug cartel violence in the specific area that we'll be inhabiting.
Anyhoo, in salute to your visit, below are a couple photos of my old school, UDLAP. These two buildings are not ones that I recognize, so, I can't tell you what they are. There are a number of the original buildings from the photos that I'm finding on the UDLAP website, and they all look almost like new, so the campus must be very well maintained. I attended this University at the 'old campus,' which was located in Mexico City, and at this campus, located in Cholula (Puebla).
What hasn't changed, is the beauty of the campus grounds.

Hope you have a nice weekend, and a safe trip home!

Hi mollie.
Puebla looks really colourful. My sister keeps talking about retiring to Mexico. This was my first visit, and for me the most impressive experience involved the local people I met and the their attention to beauty and warmth.
I found these pictures on the guardian website
these fish have eyes inside their mouths for some reason
This is a rare white fox that found its dinner. I think this picture is absolutely amazing
I have no idea why this seahorse is carrying this around

Hi snoopy
The fish mouth might be a very efficient protective visual (lens) cover.
Animals in their habitat are so photogenic. The seahorse carrying a pink cue tip is wonderful. Thank you.
Oh, I'm remiss
if I don't extend a 'thank you' to all of our outstanding C99P photographers who regularly share their excellent work with our Community!

Nice picture
There is something about watching the sun set and seeing how different they are from day to day.
Does anyone know what the weather people call this type of phenomenon?

Maybe phenomenons are nomen-less (nameless)
; )
I want to say those are called
Was too busy last night to participate; hopefully next Friday!
This shit is bananas.
