The clock has started ticking!

Last Friday, Obama formally notified Congress of his intent to submit the legislation to ratify the TPP this year.

Adam Behsudi of Politico reports:

"Friday's notification is the clearest signal yet that the White House is serious about getting Obama’s legacy trade deal — the biggest in U.S. history — passed by the end of the year, as he has vowed to do despite the misgivings of Republican leaders and the outright opposition of a majority of Democrats in Congress."

Obama can now send that legislation to Congress 30 days after his notification, which is just after Labor Day. Congress returns to DC from its break on September 6.

Adam Behsudi also reports that Obama is currently touring 30 places in the heartland during the Congressional recess to promote the TPP.

We don't think Obama will send the TPP legislation before the lame duck session in November, but we must be vigilant.

Now is the time to increase our pressure to stop the TPP!

We must make the TPP so toxic that members of Congress won't touch it. We must escalate our actions!

Here is something you can do now:

Members of Congress are on break until the end of the Labor Day weekend. That means they will be in district and attending public events. Set up a meeting with them or bird dog their events to push them to oppose the TPP. Push them to make a public commitment against it.
