The Pima Area Labor Federation cancelled its Labor Day Picnic in Tucson.
This would have been the 24th Annual.
They had this shit instead.

We wanted decent healthcare, a living wage and free college.
The Democrats gave us Biden and war instead.

I've seen lots of changes. What doesn't change is people. Same old hairless apes.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and eating lots of burgers and swilling beer. Yesterday we got slammed with the smokey air from California. 2nd day the mountains have disappeared from it. Looking north Ben Lomond usually fills the view and it’s strange not to see it there. This mountain is the Paramount logo one in case y’all didn’t know it.

Another article that talks about how there aren’t enough people to fight the 23 wildfires because the prisoners that usually do it are sick from COVID. But then it just moved on. Newsom should raise taxes on rich people so he can afford to hire real firemen. People’s homes are burning down because of this. People should be pissed.

Yesterday we broke records at 100 again, but tomorrow it’s going to be in the low 60's. Brr. I’ll park the convertible.

@snoopydawg

the smoke plumes are pretty amazing. i saw one nws video that showed a 50,000 foot plume (visible from space) coming from one of the fires that at present is completely uncontained.

i hear that there is some cooler weather arriving along with wind gusts, so hopefully the cooler weather will help and the wind gusts, um, won't be so bad.

have a good one!

I weep for people who are watching their homes burn. And it’s only going to get worse each year with climate change. Biden’s not going to do shit about it either.

Oh and he’s bringing back the individual mandate for the ACA. People shouldn’t be forced to buy something that they can’t afford.

Newsom is going to have some hard decisions to make when he does his budget. Cuomo is full on with austerity. People will die.

i can't imagine what that will do to the government's medicaid costs or whatever pool of money obamacare pulls from to supplement low-income people. mr austerity might think twice.

@snoopydawg We're now back to a Red Flag warning and potential power shutoff - aka blackouts. Actual, not potential, at 9:00 pm for foothill counties north and east of Sacramento. The turn off for others set for midnight.

The heat has been brutal. 107 yesterday and 106 today. A projected break for tomorrow at only 96 degrees.

@Marie

Upper Central Valley I presume? I lived in Modesto for 20 years and I remember the moment my body started craving Utah. My house was surrounded by walnut trees and vineyards and I used to walk through them. 6 pm at the end of September it was 110 degrees with higher humidity than I was used to. Ugh I said. It’s in the 70's in Utah right now. I was taking something that made me intolerant of heat.

I was there during the Enron scandal with the rolling black outs. And the recall of Davis. I tried warning people what was happening, but they were just so happy voting for the terminator.

I was in SF in '95 when it had a bad heatwave. Not many people have air conditioning there.

@snoopydawg that it's rare to get a 100 degree day and rarer still that it doesn't cool down by at least ten degrees on the next day. Apparently the high temp records in the area was set 1 Sept 2017 and it was a two day 100+ degree spell with near 100 degrees the day before and after. This latest 100+ degree spell was three days, and it's the second spell this year. But as with the 2017 records, I'll probably forget the 2020 hot spells in a few months.
