Protesters have been encamped at the 4th Precinct in Minneapolis for more than a week protesting the execution by police of unarmed Jamar Clark, shot in the head. Just a few minutes ago, some of the protesters apparently tried to chase away some white troublemakers, identified in some tweets as White Supremacists, who then turned around and shot two (or more, likely five, according to the latest reports) of the protesters. New tweets and updates as they come by.

With tweets coming in.

doesn't make sense to me.

As for white supremacists, I live in the
Deep South and am related to some of
them. Didn't realize northern racists
were so much worse than southern
ones, but you're more on top of this
than I, so I shall defer to you.

BTW, does MN still have the Rebel flag in
a corner of its state flag (like the state
where I'm living does)?

That the civil rights protestors deserved to be menaced by white men with guns while protesting the shooting down in cold blood of a neighborhood man?

I said these people were dangerous, I didn't say they worse than any other state's white supremacist. Many people assume that MN being a liberal state doesn't have organized white supremacist. So you can just stop right now with putting words in my mouth.

Many years ago, a Nazi flag was found in the keeping of members of the Minneapolis police department, this is a very bad police department and how it remains so despite all of our very liberal Mayors and city council is a mystery to me. Would not suprise me in the least if we eventually discover that this armed thug citizens patrol had ties to the police department.

Don't really understand the point of your hostility in this discussion.

I didn't intend to sound hostile at all nor
hardly comparing one batch of racists
against another.

I was just trying to understand the
sequence of what happened.

If the counter-protesters were
brandishing firearms or even threatening
to use weapons against the protesters,
then I am very surprised they weren't
arrested before it escalated beyond
that.

But if, as you say, MN cops are siding
with white supremacists, then I can see
how things ended with bloodshed. A
damn shame, but hardly the first time
cops acted to preserve the status quo -
it's pretty much their job description.

Again, my sincere apologies for any
misunderstanding.

but there is a long and terrible history within the Minneapolis police department against black people and even worse against native-americans. The Minneapolis police loaded up two intoxicated native american men into the trunk of one squad car and drove them around to show off to their buddies and have a good laugh. Then finally they took them to the ER. Those men could have died in the trunk of that car. It was the ER staff that made that incident public.

I've lived in a few different Texas cities, but the Minneapolis police are by far the worst I have ever encountered. And that's why I worked with others to establish civilian review. Doesn't seem to have done any good.

I wish I could put my hands on the story about members of the police department and the Nazi flag right there at the police station, but it was a long time ago and Star Tribune is not online that far back that I can find. It was a scandal at the time.

More is coming in on this latest story, but my understanding right now is that these masked and armed white supremacist have been menacing this peaceful protest for some time now, videos of them bragging about it and showing off their guns are starting to surface. The protesters asked for help from the police and got no help.

I don't blame the protesters in the least for demanding that these thugs keep their distance.

You really have no problem with white supremacist menacing civil rights protesters. You have no problem with them coming masked and armed to do so. You somehow think that these white supremacist are somehow the victim in this confrontation?

Seriously. I just don't have a clue what it is you are trying to say here.

Miski Noor, a media contact for Black Lives Matter, said “a group of white supremacists showed up at the protest, as they have done most nights.”

One of the three men wore a mask, said Dana Jaehnert, who had been at the protest site since early evening.

When about a dozen protesters attempted to herd the group away from the area, Noor said, they “opened fire on about six protesters,” hitting five of them. Jaehnert said she heard four gunshots.

... really they can't handle their weapons responsibly. Tasers should not be given to police officers. All over the world militia types are threatening civilians with their outfits and attitudes. Can't remember having seen so many masked militias with heavy weapons patrolling everything in the seventies and eighties. It's all out of control. And dangerous. And it incites hate.

In the Facebook post, Black Lives Matter activists wrote that they recognized the men in the video as those who had visited the encampment the night before.

“Last night 2 white supremacists, one carrying a pistol, showed up to our peaceful protest at the 4th precinct,” the post said. “After community members on livestream started questioning them they left without incident, then we later found a video of them en route to the protest brandishing a pistol and making comments including ‘stay white’ and justifying the killing of Jamar Clark.”

“We’re hearing two [arrests] at this time,” Williams explained. “But we don’t necessarily trust that. We know that the police department is behind this, this is our personal belief after receiving witness accounts.”

“We believe the police department is facilitating the injustice, bullying the protesters,” Williams replied. “And we also believe that they’re involved in this shooting. We know from blackboards and chat rooms and also videos that we have posted on our website that police that are from different counties, police from different districts have come down to entice the protesters, have come down to bully the protesters.”

According to Williams, police were “lurking” near the shooting and then refused to provide help to the injured protesters.

“This is what you’ve been wanting,” she recalled one of the officers saying.

“It took 15 minutes for the police to even arrive and shortly after that, they began to Mace the crowd,” Williams said. “So if you’re not part of the problem, if this is not something you’re trying to cover up, why would you not attend to victims who paid for your salaries?”
