Chicago, 1999: "Niggers By the Pound"

In 1999, at the end of the Clinton administration in the Democratic stronghold of Chicago, a series of articles by the Chicago Tribune, covered the gross racist injustices of the "justice" system. Literally legalized lynching of innocent people by the "system" while white prosecutors laughed and played courtroom games to see who could lynch the most Black youth. The police lied, covered up falsely created evidence, forced "witnesses" to testify to falsehoods, tortured suspects to sign phony confessions. Judges smuggly sat on their benches turning a blind eye to injustices and promoting legalized lynching with their questionable rulings.

On his first day as a prosecutor assigned to a trial courtroom at the Criminal Courts Building, Michael Goggin slid into the chair next to the judge's chambers and his shoes struck a most unusual object--a bathroom scale.

"What's this?" Goggin recalls asking another prosecutor.

"That's for the Two-Ton Contest," came the response.

"The Two-Ton Contest?" Goggin replied, quizzically.

There was an ongoing competition among prosecutors to be the first to convict defendants whose weight totaled 4,000 pounds. Men and women, upon conviction, were marched into the room and weighed.

Because most of the defendants were African-American, Goggin recalls now, with no small degree of discomfort, the competition was described in less sensitive terms behind closed doors--"Niggers by the Pound."

It was an era where being politically correct meant being a part of Mayor Richard J. Daley's Democratic machine. It was a time when the state's attorney's office kept a chart of wins and losses, each victory earning a prosecutor a green sticker next to his name, and each loss an embarrassing red one.

It was a place where winning was so important and commonplace--Goggin's record in one courtroom was 58 wins, two losses and two hung juries--that the Two-Ton Contest evolved as another measure of success, with African-Americans as game tokens.

And it was a time when some prosecutors hid evidence, overreached in courtroom argument, reneged on promises, sat idly by while their witnesses shaved the truth and, in some instances, were the unwitting pawns of unscrupulous law enforcement officers who concealed evidence or lied, according to a Tribune analysis of hundreds of cases.

Literally hundreds of cases in Chicago alone of prosecutor misconduct have been officially found. Dennis Williams is just one example:

And now, the pigs in blue don't even bother with a trial. The "courtroom" is post-lynching by the corporate media who smear the victim. Later paramilitary pigs make mass arrests of protesters and, using the same bullshit we heard aboutlike "Berniebros throwing chairs and violence", the corporate media justifies the misuse of state power. By the time we hear the truth, the victim has been smeared into the mud and the protesters considered stupid, violent goons.

Police shot and killed Paul O'Neal on July 28 near East 74th Street and South Merrill Avenue... There is no video of O'Neal actually being shot.... The next time O'Neal is seen on video he is face down, being handcuffed and bleeding from a bullet wound in his back... O'Neal was unarmed. The shots that officer and his partner heard were likely fired by fellow officers down the street... No one was seen rendering any aid. O'Neal was still alive while at the scene. He died a few hours later at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Candidates in the farcical so-called election offer lip-service and band-aids for a cultural/state sponsored metastatic cancer and those of us who are outraged are shuffled into the corner, considered either misguided or thugs.

"best country in the world". #1 in income inequality, child poverty, and people incarcerated. Staying informed keeps one at a level of despair and rage over all that is wrong and cannot be changed. There was a judge in PA that got caught selling kids to private for-profit prisons for cash.

Euros, aged 45 to 55, are dying in numbers that actuaries find hard to believe.

Times are intentionally tough for a lot of people and the mortality stats are beginning to show it. Poor health stats have pointed this direction for a number of years.

Having just watched the video about Aaron Swartz on another thread, I have come to the conclusion that maybe the tin-foil hats over at infowars, whom I have ignored fastidiously, might have a point... to quote a recent tweet:
