Yep, complete with Russians. Oh man, this is just getting insane. Russians are supposed to be leaving right? And yet somehow, we've drawn lines that involve them in "our" airspace? When we're not even pretend legally in the country? I really wish we'd stop poking the bear with a stick.

So, apparently the DOD spent millions of dollars (22 to be precise) investigating UFO's in the theory that they were in fact enemy aircraft.

Yup, good old Project Blue Book, dusted off and served as nice fresh pork. And of course, we find out about it long after the money has been spent. Welp, nuttin' we can do about it NOW, so... What of course this little "Funny" story shows is how rampant corruption in the military is. For every one of these that we hear about are twenty more that we don't, many of which exist for the sole purpose of fresh ham hocks.

And here's an interesting little tidbit that is hidden in this "RUSSIA WAR BUILD UP" Story. About halfway down it notes that only a few bases can handle 5th generation aircraft.

Which means that our air power is extremely brittle and dependent on constant resupply. The upgrade and the move closer to Russia means that our leaders are failing to learn the lessons of the recent close incidents with Russia, and instead of looking for a counter, are doubling down on the first strike capability.

Overall, looks to me like the war machine is keeping on rolling. Here's hoping that they don't get the bodies to do this. If nothing else, we need to provide people with choices other than the military. We need folks able to live without desperately selling their freedom to a vast military machine.

This build up by NATO on Russia's border, the Ukrainian coup created and funded by the US, confrontations in Syria where they were invited and we were not (add some Israeli airstrikes in the mix there too that don't get reported) all add up to our aggression. We are the warmongers!

Plus in N. Korea all the press about them firing missiles, little to no press about us setting up missile launchers all along their border. Flying bombers over their country. Surrounding their coast with our aircraft carriers. Now who is provoking who?

Then we have the T-rump surrounding himself with generals and wanting fire and destruction to rain down. We are the evil empire!

edit to add another warning...

but I don't think it is a threat...

perhaps our carriers are not the weapons we think?

@Lookout

From your first link

Later Tuesday, a U.S. official confirmed to Fox News that Russia had deployed ground-launched cruise missiles to two locations inside the country in December. The New York Times first reported that the Obama administration had previously seen the missiles -- then in a testing phase -- as a violation of a 1987 treaty between the U.S. and Russia that banned ground-launched intermediate-range missiles.

Didn't we break the treaty first after Reagan promised that NATO wouldn't move one inch closer to Russia after the Berlin Wall came down?

The US has such a good track record with treaties, right? Just ask the Native Americans.

His new defense policy that essentially names Russia and China as Enemies 1 and 1A. Guess Putin's grand strategy to get Trump elected really paid off. /snark

@Steven D Had lunch with a very smart guy who is pretty much a "progressive democrat". If that label can make sense anymore. He brought up Russiagate and went from calm to ballistic. He was repeating the most ardent anti-Russia rhetoric as in "we are at war with them..." I have seen other people I know who are good progressives go off in the same way. When I saw the initial reaction, no use talking or reasoning. No questioning their faith.

One of the questions I ask online when people claim that Trump is Putin's puppet is what has Trump that has benefited Putin/Russia materially or strategically. I can list a whole litany of stuff that Trump admin has done that in fact materially or strategically harms Putin/Russia. Things like bombing an ally, ramping up military presence with NATO on Russia's border, denied Exxon an exception to sanctions, in March affirmed that Ukraine/Crimea sanctions will stay, on verge of giving Ukraine serious fire power, appointing various anti-Russian neocons, making RT declare themselves as a foreign agent, closing Russian consulates, every major figure in his administration has denounced Russia especially Haley who was demanding more sanctions against Syria, attacks on Iran which is an ally, implementation of sanctions, now $200 million announced in airbase upgrades to counter Russian threat.

The counters are flimsy to out-of-date. Yes, Trump was 26 days late in implementing sanctions bill and going full bore on them now. Or but he wanted to lift sanctions but was forced not too. Trump could have easily lifted sanctions after inauguration. Oh, Trump let Russian have Syria neglecting the major military build up in NE Syria of American troops (of course this critique implies military conflict inside Syria). And on and on.

But nothing can shake the faithful. Like the faithful of Heaven's Gate, they are waiting for their comet.

@MrWebster which anybody who claims to follow the standard practices of science would result in either modifying the fundamental theory, or starting over from observation.

A religion will instead claim that the contrary information is either of no import, or the actions of those without faith, or the activities of the enemy, whoever that might be.

Therefore logically,
Russiagate is a religion.

when the B-1 bomber became stationed there, replacing our old B-52s. It was immediately apparent that they were not going to be deployed anywhere, they were so unreliable. It took a few years to figure out that it was worse than I thought.

Aircraft are dependent on "AGE" (aircraft generation equipment), auxiliary power carts, air conditioning and heating carts, etc. The long time standard for big airplanes is to run on 400hz 115V AC, and 28V DC power...so power carts are built that way to supply power to any kind of aircraft, on the ground. B-1s took different volts and freqs. Therefore different power carts...supplied only by Rockwell.

Aircraft hydraulic systems usually run on 3000 psi, with surge dampers built into the system, so that when you put the landing gear down, for example, there isn't a giant surge of 3000 psi fluid through the system, and breaking pipes at weakpoints. B-1s run on 4000 psi. No surge dampers. Lots of landing gear problems.

On a much smaller scale, aircraft rely on tools to maintain them. Flathead screwdrivers, and Phillips, at the most basic level. The B-1 had unique fasteners, requiring special, five sided drivers, among other things. Supplied only by Rockwell.

To be as non specific as I can, and still get the point across, to get to their targets, from North Dakota, our bombers had to cross Greenland. When we got the first flightplans, they were roughly the same as what we had always done with the B-52s. Until we noticed that they were planned several thousand feet lower...as high as a fully loaded B-1 could fly. Not QUITE as high as the mountains in Greenland.

Long story short...they did not participate in the Gulf War, when I went. Too many five-sided screwdrivers would have to proceed them. We've been building undeployable aircraft for a while now (why do you think the B-2 crews were given amphetamines to fly 24hr-plus missions, round trip to the Middle East?)

@Bisbonian In any war, supply lines will break down, and any war that takes place in America will see an incredibly fast degradation of American military capability, based on how dependent it is on specialized maintenance.

I always thought there should be a song... "Hanger Queen" in the style of this song...(If there was I never heard it.)

re: Top Gun...if memory serves, the opening of the movie gave the setting as "somewhere over the ocean", or something like that. At the time the movie came out, the Navy was flying regular patrols over the Gulf of Sidra, below Khaddafi's "Line of Death", on "freedom of flight* missions".

*meaning, we will fly wherever we goddam please, thankyouverymuch.

Russian propaganda? After all Russia annexed Crimea, started the violence in Ukraine and invaded Syria, then what's a little election interference? Right? It's not hard to believe that Russia is making plans to invade the US if Mueller removes Trump. We need to surround them so they can't accomplish their goals of taking over the country. I wonder how many people are willing to see us go to war over this? Quite a few, if I'm reading the comments on ToP correctly.

part of an ongoing initiative to deter Russian aggression.

Unfortunately, the propaganda interference has worked on 63% of the population
