Alpha's Primary Election Live Blog for New Jersey, California etc.

Well, this is the big one!

Despite the DNC & the media's best attempts to shut down the Sanders campaign here it is, June 7th and we are still trucking on towards the convention!!!

I will be posting election return results as they come in as well as watching and commenting on the live stream of The Young Turks election coverage.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfH6El-CvTM]

Also, I will link the Guardian's live results link here so we can watch Mini-Bernie color in the maps, provided they even have it up with Hillary already having "Won". (Hopefully we don't have to see to much Clinton, I find even the mini version annoying... )

I hope you guys join me for my last live blog until possibly the convention! I was a bit worried about even being up since there was supposed to be a tropical storm coming through but so far just some high winds and lots of lighting and rain.

But I knew I was in for this when I moved to Florida in the first place. Smile

my Florida experience is pretty minimal. Born in NYC, grew up first in Queens, then northern NJ. We had a vacation a long, long time ago in Miami. The big records on the jukebox were "Dream, Dream, Dream", "Sugartime" and "Honeycomb" so that should probably date it closely...'58? '59?

aztec-hotel1_0.jpg

When my folks retired they moved to Fort Myers. We visited them many years back, spent a lot of time on Sanibel. Never did find any sidewalks but we did have to run from an alligator.

It's too hot for that shit! Wink

Any walking I do is reserved for on the beach itself where I can jump into the water when it gets too hot.

My mother lives there. I used to live there, back in the 80s and early 90s, before the residential sprawl took off like a bat out of hell. Finished high school there; used to enjoy trips out to Captiva. Beaches were nice, but other than that, it wasn't particularly interesting for a young person back then to live there. Hope you weren't affected by the real estate crash--Cape Coral was like ground zero for that.

so that's pretty exciting.

This morning I imagined myself in November, with my ballot in front of me. I thought of how awful Trump is and what a horrible place America would be with him as President. I imagined looking at the ballot with his name there, then looking at Hillary's. And I thought (and I'm sure I will think) "no, I will not vote for her". Should she get the nomination she'll have to figure out how to win the election without me....without us.

Anyway, looking for the West Coast Sweep tonight!

Looking forward to a Sanders win in CA hopefully, but I am not as optimistic about Jersey. My home state is known for it's corruption so it is only natural that it would gravitate towards the Clintons. Acute

Not only gravitate towards the Clintons but vote for Christie twice with the help of endorsements from over 40 "Democratic" elected officials.

People "say" get involved in local politics. Yeah, sure, but they don't know what an impossible venture that is when the system is so rigged with hundreds of millions of dollars here in NJ againt the 99%ers.

I wonder if it would use less bandwidth if the site admins could set up a "Live Ticker" style plug in for the recent comments list so people wouldn't have to reload the whole page as much?

If it's already happening it may get worse as results start coming in. To avoid double posting when you save a comment wait until it either finishes or goes to a page error before reloading seems to help, and it will post most times, even if it takes a minute or two.

JTC if you are listening care to weigh in on if this is feasible? I have zero knowledge of the amount of overhead involved in such an operation.

I'm horrified about the Delegates / AP / and don't know if I can wait to leave the party until the convention. I think Bernie has been treated horribly and if HRH is indicted and / or told to step down or she will be (indicted) they are going to parachute in VP Biden. I won't vote for him either.

People say to wait until the convention to leave the party. How do I hold out that long? I'm divorcing from this abusive relationship... why wait?

Don't believe everything you think.

Alphalop's picture

Simply because I would think it would make a much more resounding of a statement and a refutation of any claimed mandate Clinton may have if we all do it at once and from what I have been hearing online the plan is for the end of the convention.

But of course, you are free to do it whenever makes sense for you, we are still that free at least.

I am completely disgusted myself and no longer think we can "Rebuild" so I am planning on bailing out too.

The Democratic party has made it clear to me that they don't want, nor think they need, progressive voters.

assuming that the party bothers to look, seeng the rolls drop all at once over the course of a day or so might well have a greater impact than the same drop spread over 2 months.

Ultimately, it is your call. I'm becoming convinced that we voters are simply an inconvenience to the Party Fathers, and that they may not care. If they get down to 5% of the electorate as registered members, they'll still be happy- all they have to do is to keep jamming bozos onto ballots, and folks apparently will vote for them out of fear and guilt (or perhaps inertia).

I personally am going to wait: IMNSHO, there is no downside to doing it at the same time as many other people. I already flushed all their mailing lists into the spam filter, and I don't answer calls from unknown numbers...

but TPTB have made it clear that it would be one hell of a fight and it's one that would take at least 6-8 years to accomplish. I think we could build a whole new party by 2020 at the latest if we go full bore like we did with the Sanders campaign.

The problem is time.

I don't think we, or the planet, have the time it would take for us to wrestle control from the third wayers, nor do I think the payoff would be worth it.

It would be like fighting for the controlling interest in toxic sludge. Looking at the registration trends it seems both parties are about as popular as said sludge, so why not start something new without all the negative baggage that comes with a bloated party that is full of insiders and that the electorate lacks faith in?

be surprised if at the convention they tried to disallow a certain number of Bern pledged delegates if the Dem rolls have gone down significantly. They would say "These votes shouldn't count because these were clearly not REAL Democrats, these were just people following Bern with no real interest in our party," then try to take the Dem nom away from Bernie even if he does well tonight, or try to say "Well now we don't have to give you part of the platform, because those who wanted a more progressive platform have already left the party".

So call me paranoid, but to give Bern the best and biggest strength at the convention, please stay in until afterward.

Regardless of the Rovian math at play we have won. Nothing will remain the same.
