About Vivek Ramaswamy

hereinafter, VR.

Wiki states his parents are Tamil speaking Brahmins from Kerala. Now, I cannot claim to be any kind of expert on the Hindu caste system, either historically or in the present. I am guessing that this might be somewhat analogous to being British landed aristocracy. The point being, if I am right, VR is the inheritor of generation upon generation of social class privilege. He would, from about age 3 onwards, have been instructed in the art of how to secure the good will, favorable opinion and even a bit of emotional attachment of his social inferiors. How to speak, how to stand and carry himself, how to dress and present himself. Notice how the Youtube commentators were sounding like they were halfway in love with this guy. This training in disciplined demeanor seems to have caused a number of commenters to overlook some of the truly outrageous things he has said.

For example, restrict voting age to 24 or 5 was it, and you must pass a citizenship test? How about simply require that schools do their jobs and teach civics again? Oh, but, one supposes, some of his PMC friends are teachers and we mustn't offend them. Then he wants to negotiate with Mr. Putin about Ukraine and insist that Russia give up its' alliance with China. WTF? Russia is a very large, and nuclear armed, nation; I think it can and will ally with whomever it likes. I know that his supporters and funders in the Hindu/Sikh/Jain diaspora are understandably alarmed about the prospect that China might invade India and India needs allies, but they might want to get behind someone who understands how diplomacy works.

His company is a large pharmaceutical company, which I gather owns other such companies. We need not expect any sympathy about out of control health care costs from this guy.

I am reminded of a passage from William James. (I paraphrase) The vulgarian mind, that would be me, obsesses over what James calls interstitial thinking which a gentleman's mind simply refuses to do. Often, James continued, the matters overlooked are of the highest consequence. VR, I would suggest, simply doesn't see, has no awareness of, any who are not in his social class. I suggest he is no less clueless, for all his clear voice and elegant demeanor, than your basic left leaning entitled Ken or Karen. A person who likes his looks and style and wants to see four years of a paralyzed govt. might vote for him. From what I can tell, VR has no allies anywhere in DC. How is he going to get legislation through Congress? How much of DC officialdom is going to pay any attention to him at all?

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

@on the cusp I hope you are right about that. It was disheartening to see and hear some of the Youtuber commenters all but swooning over him.

I never knew that the term "Never Again" only pertained to
those born Jewish

"Antisemite used to be someone who didn't like Jews
now it's someone who Jews don't like"

Heard from Margaret Kimberley

@ggersh Wow. Just wow. I know there was a reason I didn't like the guy. Thank you for this, ggersh. I hope many see it and reflect.

twitter, now X. Short, truthful, informative. etc. Would need thousands -- tens of thousands -- of such presentations on every issue and every political candidate to get through to those that need to know. That's feasible. But Musk would shut this down long before it could become effective.

because his name lends itself so readily to "Swami" jokes. (Wait for it, they will come.)

There is no justice. There can be no peace.

The dumb-clucks enamored by standard libertarian rhetoric totally miss that it's anti-social and could only exist within an authoritarian framework. And that's no different than uber-capitalist totalitarianism, aka Nazism (that surprisingly having a Rennaissance these days.)

My visceral experience of VK in the debate was that he's creepy. That could have been colored by my prior knowledge that he's a McKinsey & Co alumni and based on real experience, loathe those people.

@Marie1 @Marie1 who or what are McKinsey & Co.? I know I have heard the name somewhere. Might you be able and willing to share some of that experience, so the rest of us can know what we are dealing with?

@Nastarana
Contracts with major business and government agencies.

Shared my experience a few days ago -
McKinsey

The short version is that they are unethical, have no interest in long-term viability, only short term earnings, and they aren't smart or skilled.

@Nastarana

I posted this article on McKinsey that should give you a good idea what it is. Basically a very rotten organization that works against we the people.

If ICE were hunting down Trump’s critics, that would be bad but would make sense.
But ICE is hunting down Israel’s critics.

@snoopydawg book about the company. My gripe about books published in the last 5 or more years is that the print is very small, and the black ink is more of a grey, and does not contrast well on the white pages. I have to read in short spurts, then give my eyes a rest.
The book is $18 in paperback, $27 in hard cover, $35 in large print. I may go ahead and pay extra.
