2020 Dem Primary Moves: Clinton Backtracks and Leaves Door Open, Biden Looks Like He's Running, Bloomberg's Out

Interesting developments over the past 24 hours regarding who's in, who's out, and who's waffling on whether or not they'll jump into the 2020 Democratic presidential primary fray.

Contrary to Tuesday's widely-reported news that the former senator and first lady will not be entering a third Democratic Party presidential primary, the NY Times' Maggie Haberman just tweeted that Hillary Clinton will now wait for the release of the Mueller report before deciding whether or not she'll enter the 2020 race.

Meanwhile, according to Politico, former Vice President Joe Biden continues to make moves that virtually confirm he's about to step into the already-crowded Democratic herd.

And, former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he will not be a candidate this election cycle.

Biden nabs big-name Latino operative in latest sign he's running

By ALEX THOMPSON
Politico
03/06/2019 10:10 AM EST

In the latest sign that Joe Biden will run for president, his team has brought on Cristóbal Alex, the head of the influential Latino Victory Fund, according to a source familiar with the move.

It's not clear what role Alex would fill in a Biden presidential campaign. He served as Hillary Clinton’s National Deputy Director of Voter Outreach and Mobilization in 2016.

Alex declined to comment but publicly disclosed on Tuesday that he was departing from Latino Victory Fund. He tweeted that he believes “Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our nation. I am committed to doing everything in my power to defeat him, and my next steps will reflect that.”

The tweet sparked praise of Alex from many corners of the progressive world, including from Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez and newly elected Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas)...
...

...A representative for Biden did not respond to requests for comment.

The 76-year-old former vice president has been publicly weighing another White House run, saying last week that he was in the “final stages” of his decision-making and that he wants to be sure it would not be a “fool’s errand.”

He is currently leading or nearly leading in most polls of the Democratic primary, and has quietly been assembling a potential campaign team...

Bloomberg:

Michael Bloomberg Will Not Run For President in 2020

Alexander Burns
New York Times
March 5, 2019

Michael R. Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor who joined the Democratic Party last year to crusade against President Trump, announced he would not seek the White House himself in 2020, discarding plans to mount a maverick campaign that would have tested the party’s openness to a wealthy centrist with a chameleon-like approach to partisan politics.

Mr. Bloomberg’s decision appears to reflect a recognition of the long odds he would have faced as a moderate newcomer in an unapologetically liberal party, and his own unsentimental calculus about the trade-offs involved in running. After conducting polling and other research, Mr. Bloomberg’s advisers concluded he would have a real but narrow path to the nomination — and that it could all but vanish if Joseph R. Biden Jr., the former vice president, entered the race...

@bobswern "and speaking, and standing up for what I believe." is what she said in response to some undefined question. Here is the statement in that vid you posted:

Talking head: "For the first time on camera, Clinton officially put all rumors to rest and closed the door on a third White House run."
...
"'Not running' she says, but still fighting on behalf of the sixty-five million plus Americans, who voted for her in the last Presidential election."

Her: "I want to be sure that people understand, I'm going to keep speaking out, I'm not going anywhere. What's at stake in our country right now, the things that are happening are deeply troubling. We've gotten not just polarized, we've gotten into really opposing camps unlike anything I've ever seen in my adult life."

Sixty-five million voted for Her, thanks much to Bernie Sanders. Here we go again. whee

OTOH, she was firmly in FSC's hip pocket during the period of time that she was assigned to cover her for NYT (during 2016 Presidential election).

Still, FSC/WJC may pose a worse threat behind the scenes, than if she makes another failed run. Could be wrong, but, I can't imagine that she'll be shown any deference from the Dem Party Establishment (as a candidate). @Unabashed Liberal So if no one gets the nomination on the first ballot, then on her white horse Hillary will be offered up as the "candidate who will heal the party." (excuse me while I puke) The second ballot will include the super delegates which Hillary will already have pledged to her. Remember super delegates are party insiders and elected officials, so Hills will have them in her pocket.

a sort of repository of video clips for posterity, that I started way just after the DNC Convention of what really happened there.

Behold once again the vociferous opposition to the opening of the convention, with loud boo's for Hillary. This poor woman delivering the things is so flustered and doesn't seem to believe a word she is being told to say saying:

I didn't remember this: "We're going to start with the Pledge of Allegiance." What fucking Fascists.

Then here come to boo's:

Which is why they put the Craiglist ads out to fill the seats of the Bernie delegates that were literally forced out because of their vocal disagreement. (remember after a couple of days they sent around cue cards, or was it a xerox sheet of what to chant when the Bernie supporters got loud? "If they chant 'No More War,' you say "USA!USA!USA!'")

Hillary Clinton is Now a Victim of ‘Socialists’

Now the endlessly put-upon (yet fabulously wealthy) and eye-rolling Hillary has found some more scapegoats for her epic fail: first, “socialists” in the activist cadres and primary and caucus electorate of the Democratic Party, then younger voters, and finally greedy corporate chieftains whose greed has turned good Democrats into “socialists.” The “lying neoliberal warmonger” says she was victimized because of her identification as a “capitalist” after big business executives’ have sadly given capitalism a bad name—especially with young people.

In an interview with Time Inc. brands executive Alan Murray this month, she said that her economic policies were “probably” a tough sell with primary voters: “It’s hard to know, but I mean if you’re in the Iowa caucuses and 41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists, and I’m asked ‘Are you a capitalist?’ and I say, ‘Yes, but with appropriate regulation and appropriate accountability.’ You know, that probably gets lost in the ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a capitalist!’”

Take that, Henry Wallace.

Pity the plight of the poor enlightened capitalist, Hillary Clinton, whose position high in the American Oligarchy’s permanent political class has permitted her to accumulate a net worth of at least $45 million.

some comments:

Bob In Portland
May 21, 2018 at 2:01 pm

Last year when I began pointing out that the Russia-hacked-DNC story appeared to be a CIA psyop the one thing I didn’t point out was that the CIA is not an evil entity separate from the the real world or the political world. The CIA is, in essence, capitalism’s equivalent of the Depression’s “coal and iron police” or the Pinkertons. Looking back on the Clintons’ history they each seem to have been recruited during their college years, as were many young people during the anti-war, black power and women’s movements emerging in the late sixties. 1968 was a pivotal year. Bobby Kennedy was about to end the Vietnam War and expose the CIA as murderers of his brother. Martin Luther King was about to change race relations in a way we now can only imagine.

The people who were a part of that coup in 1963 had to create a political world where they were safe from public exposure and had to have “replacements” for the normal ways that politicians rose to power. Filling the playing field with their own was necessary. The Clintons and the DLC have, through their careers, done much of the heavy lifting for the CIA and its clients.

There was an article in 2007 in the New York Times explaining Hillary’s “radicalization” of sorts from being a Goldwater Girl to being a Democrat in the whirl of 1968. The problem with the Times article, besides being unconvincing in light of the last decade, is that in retrospect it wasn’t really very convincing in 2007. For example, Hillary joined Eugene McCarthy’s “anti-war” campaign right after she switched from being a Republican on campus. Since then many researchers have discovered that McCarthy’s campaign was heavily infiltrated by the CIA. His campaign spokesman, whose name slips my mind at the moment, was CIA, as were many others who worked for him. Hillary was one of them.

Then Hillary went to the Republican National Convention, a peculiar thing for a newly-converted Republican to do. Then she spent the summer in Washington, DC as an intern for the Republican delegation in Congress. She wrote a speech on Vietnam for Representative Melvin Laird who in six months would become Nixon’s Secretary of Defense. Quite a curious turn for an anti-war Democrat.

When viewed with the above article Hillary Clinton was never really a Democrat. She merely changed her label.

Don’t hold your breath until Hillary Clinton finally melts like the Wicked Witch of the West and disappears from our political narrative. The worst candidate who ever lived, The Queen of You Owe Me, lost the election the old fashioned way. She EARNED it! Mean, greedy, arrogant, paranoid, ever the “victim” of others’ machinations, she was/is the female Richard Nixon. Unfortunately for the rest of us, this Sore Loser’s terrible revenge is to be one of the original conniving and corrupt co-conspirators – the intelligence (duh)community, the Obama administration, the Dementedcrat Party and its MSM amen corner – who have injected into our political bloodstream and body politic, the malignant cancer of PutinDidItIsm, for which there may be no cure.

...Kamala Harris has many things in common with Hillary. Both are high strung and have abusive tempers. Both insist on luxury in everything (five star hotels, first class air travel, $1,000 dinners for two and more).

Damn, revisiting this whole thing again is making my blood boil once again. But it needs not to be swept under the rug.

No you lying sack of dawg poo. It was you and your hubby that gave capitalism a bad name as well as the tan suited president that just left office.

Her saying she is sticking around to help the people who voted for her is exactly why people didn't vote for after she called us deplorables. Presidents are supposed to work for every one of us whether they voted for them or not. Not that they do, but they at least give the appearance of doing it.

41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists, and I’m asked ‘Are you a capitalist?’ and I say, ‘Yes, but with appropriate regulation and appropriate accountability.’ You know, that probably gets lost in the ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a capitalist!’”

And yet they expected Bernie's supporters to vote for her and her supporters are mad as hell at those that refused to. Why should they have? Gahh. If she is catapulted into being the nominee I'm sure that there is going to be violence at the convention. Might make '68 look like a picnic.

If Hillary did receive 3 million more votes than Trump then how badly could Russia have interfered with the election? And why do they single out Stein for taking away votes from her, but not Johnson who got more votes than Stein did? Exactly what was it that Russia did that cost her the election?

Why aren't they upset that it was Hillary's idea for the media to give him all the coverage that they did? And since DWS was fired for rigging the primary and both Donna and Liz say that it did happen why do they think it's CT to say that the primary was rigged?

If Bernie's supporters can freep the kos poll then why can't Kamillary's and Warren's do the same thing? Finally..why did Bernie just win the other poll that no one had time to freep?

That Russia knew she was weak in the Midwest, but she didn't is my favorite. Plus they only spent $100,000 for a few ads and she spent billions on ads and tv stuff. Plus flyers, emails and what nots and the only reason she won the primary is because she cheated! This is why we have been stuck with Trump, not any of the other excuses she has come up with to explain why she lost the easiest election to the worst candidate ever.

@snoopydawg At the time, it went over my head that the Clintons were pushing Trump when Bill went on Colbert. First time I saw it a bit shocking how far Bill was putting his tongue up Trump's butt praising him. Note the disdain Bill shows for Sander supporters.

I don't watch Colbert just some clips here or there, but he seems to be the Rachael Maddow of late night comedians. Also I just read how Perez told Hillary's campaign to say that Bernie's supporters were angry white men. Remember that Obama put Perez in as head of the DNC because he didn't want Ellison to be it.
