1st C99 Meetup Photo Essay.
Was a beautiful day in Portland today. (Apologies for the small photo size. My camera takes HUGE pictures, and the compression tool I have kinda sucks...)
And Some mood music for the event. (MY music, apologies, but it feels right for the imagination and energy of this group.)
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjTV8i_KjXM]
Was taking a look at the street on my way to the meetup, and it's amazing how the energy of an area can be really summed up by one simple object.
Also my kids were hungry before we got to the meetup, so we stopped in at our favorite local restaurant for burgers...
And before we get too into the photos, just keep in mind that the Spirit of Bernie was definitely present.
And without further ado, here's a bunch of photos of people with absolutely no commentary whatsoever. Because I think the photos speak for themselves about the excitement and positive energy that was present.
So thank you all for coming. I look forward to the next one, hopefully when I can get a babysitter, because it felt like I left far too early. You're great folks, with great opinions and great attitudes.
And Tell Shel Silverstein on the Walk Home, I found it.

Very nice - thanks for sharing...
looks like a great day with great people..
"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon
Wonderful day. Lot of fun...
And I managed to have one beer and end it there. For me, that's a major accomplishment.... (Don't believe in 12 steps, but it's very important for me to stick to the rules I've set for myself.)
Only downside is missing the bus in Portland on Sunday gets annoying because service is reduced. Feels a bit like taking the bus in my hometown at that point, so we just walked. (STILL an improvement, mind you)
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
thanks for organizing this meetup DMW!
It was great meeting you and the rest of the crew!

I recognize a few of those faces!! :D
Sorry I wasn't able to go after all. Shift coverage issues at last minute.
There will be many more gatherings I am sure. Hooray for Portland99Percent

We'll catch you at the next one.
Course there's also been some talk about doing other things locally, so who knows?
Felt VERY positive there today, and that's a great thing.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I think I recognize two people and ...
that's way not enough for me nosy person.
Thank you, dmw, for sharing the photos. Your kids look full of energy. Your company consists of some delightful grey-haired men (I like that... ) and all I can say congrats to you to make a detour around the sixpack.
Thank You, dmw. Very kind of you to help to make the meet-up a reality. It seems we need to hire you for our East-Coast meet-ups.

Unfortunately, I don't know the East Coast well...
Unless you want to throw a meetup in Lebanon, PA... (Lived there for 2 years... hated it, but it was my ex-wife's hometown...)
I'm just glad everybody had a good time, and I apologize for the amount of time I had to do parenting while we were there.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I made only two trips during my whole 25 years in the US
to the West Coast. So, I have seen LA a bit, Longbeach and Hollywood, drove through San Diego, drove up to San Francisco passing Santa Barabara, Santa Monica, have seen the Muir Wood National Park (for a couple of hours), have seen a bit of San Luis Obispo and San Jose and I saw Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.
All of it way not enough to know if I would feel "home" at the West Coast or not. The only thing I remember is that I missed green meadows. Most grass covered hills I remember as being brownish. I have heard Portland is the opposite of it.
I am definitely more an Eastern girl. I am not scared of winter and snow, as long as you have well built houses with thick walls. Which of course are rather rare or unaffordable here.
I think it's somewhat difficult to go to meet people in persona, you only knew anonymously from your online blog before.
Somehow your mind makes up an image of a person based on comments and diaries. When you get to meet those persons in real life most probably you will see that your image and what you get to know in reality doesn't match and that to me is a bit uncomfortable to experience.
I understand the need for anonymity online, but it's a two-sided sword. There is a lot of room for misconceptions and misunderstanding in anonymous online conversations or in real space. But it is very nice and good to have a chance to meet people who can become your friends in real space. And that's something most people need. So, I hope you will have more meet-ups and get to enjoy them all.

Don't apologize for parenting
It might be that the influence of a political meeting will someday influence one of your kids to run for public office.... It's good for the kids whether they realize it or not.
I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute ..., where no church or church school is granted any public funds or political preference. — President John F. Kennedy, Houston, TX, 12 September 1960
I love seeing these beautiful people
Thank you for sharing your meetup with us.

More than welcome!
It's a great feeling to actually be connecting with the community, which I don't think I've done enough in my life.
Glad to be starting now.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
I did a meetup with the Asheville people
about two years ago and it was wonderful.

the percentage of white hair was high
that's all I'm gonna say about that!
I was pleased with how comfortable it was. Thanks to all who were there for being so well informed and thoughtful!
Yeah, I did feel a bit like the junior member...
But at the same time, those who do not learn from their elders are doomed to make dumb decisions that cause the elders to roll their eyes and tell long stories about how when THEY were younger you screwed up much more elegantly...
Kidding, kidding. But thanks for showing up, and it was a real pleasure to meet you.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
You were the only one
I definitely recognized. I believe that I also recognized Sara and Ann. I guessed at some of the others including Shaz.

Sorry I missed it
Totally forgot it was happening......
We'll get you next time.
Should probably have made it a separate Essay last night, but I was tired. (Played Civilization, and "Just ONE more Turn" hit me)
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
That's awesome! Quite a group. I would like to know who all
those people are. Will any volunteer to admit to their part in the conspiracy?
And who else lives around Lexington, KY?

and I'm sitting next to my new friend, DMW
wearing a white-ish shirt and a look that says I don't believe the government.
Excellent, thanks! I wasn't sure about that because your face
isn't clear in the small photo. Although you do look like you're about to get up to mischief.

I thought that might be you, since you said you felt like the
youngster in the group.

I'm embarrassed that
I bogued at the last minute. Looks great and please let's do it again, soon. Maybe we Portlander's and c99ers from the PNW can put our heads together and shake some action. I'm kind of anti social whereas Shah is a social animal. He participates in Portland's local music community and in a group called Stop Demolishing Portland. I tend to retreat from real life and lose myself in the internet virtual world.
Thanks for the pics dmw. I too need to connect directly more in real life with my local community. What can be better then connecting with my fellow 99%er's in person. Thanks for doing this and posting the pictures. Your inspiring to this internet warrior who tends to hide form real life encounters of the 1st kind.
Here's a song sung by a now Portland resident who also fosters community.
Let's do it again
For 6 months when I got here...
I was scared to leave the house. New area, PTSD, etc... it adds up.
Part of the healing process for me. Can't get out EVERY day, but on occasion I'm working my towards it.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Yes
I have been thinking Jeff Merkley may be positioning himself to follow in Bernies footsteps. He is in a good position to see the lay of the land both back there and out here. He has to know the way things are is not sustainable. Something is going to have to give soon.
I know he actually goes out and talks to people. About a year ago I met him at the Saturday market. He bought me a soda we had a chat about life. He looked familiar but couldn't place him until the next time he was on the news. Felt like I had been a chapter on undercover boss or something.
I wonder if he does that often.
This is so very great, thx for organizing it DMW.
c99 becoming a real community. Just gotta love that.

It was a blast to plan out.
Glad everybody's schedules could match up, honestly.
Sundays may end up being the best days for these. We'll see what happens at the next one!
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
For me it is.
I work compressed work weeks which include Saturday. So Sunday is usually my recovery day.
the nice thing about this is how it'll feel in the future
when I reply to borkrom it'll be like a continuation of our get-together. Or quill, or grandma, or....
or Rick, who isn't yet a member of c99p but who will be!
Looking forward to his sign-up too...
Was an absolute gas to talk tech ideas today. Thinking of sharing some of my ideas here, as a minor sideline because they are an absolute blast to talk about with folks who get the concept.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Very nice--thanks for sharing; good lookin' younguns! ;-D EOM

It was fun!

Such a delightful way to celebrate May Day
you c99Portlanders came up with!
Congratulations to all who attended

and sharing the photos of your get-
together with the rest of us.

Yay C99-NorthWest!
Looks like an enjoyable Sunday Outing was had by C99-NW. Jealous. I'm picturing this meetup being parodied in a future skit on Portlandia. So when they say Bernie only has millennial support, is this what millennials look like now. Just kiddin. I have white hair too, so I'm allowed to poke fun.
And ok yes, technically this was a Sunday Outing. But it is still a Revolution People!!

Congratulations, DMW! TY for posting the photos. Your kids are
lovely, mate. And congrats also from another one-beer-limit guy. And the weather cooperated :=) Real nice, mate, and I hope more folks organize such c99 events.
In fact, I'm inspired to organize one for folks who live here :=)

Glad to see the pics and meeting such great people
I enjoyed driving down (took me a few hours) from Washington to meet everyone but it was well worth it.
It was a great start, and really made me feel good to get a chance to meet everyone. I told the group we need to have another big meeting after the convention to start thinking about working together towards something.
