c99p Site Statistics 6-1-16
Here's some current AWS site stats for those that may be interested.
We upgraded our server a couple of weeks ago, you may have noticed the improvement in performance. This upgrade was just a stop gap measure though as we still plan to move to yet a larger one as funds allow. This is your donations in action folks. These graphs will help to further explain the need for server expansion. I thank any and all who have donated to the cause, you know who you are. Thank you very much.
Monthly Stats
Most noticeable is the huge uptick in unique visits for the month of May compared to previous months, 79,208, that's a daily average of 2,555 unique visits per day, not too shabby.
Daily Stats
Notice as usual Wednesday is the most busy day of the week.
Hourly Stats
List of countries we get traffic from
The big surprise for me is the amount of traffic from Turkey, didn't see that one coming. The traffic from Russia is mostly spammers.
Summary for the month of May
That's all folks! (There are other stats but I guarantee they'd bore the BeJesus out of you.)
Comments
Very interesting JtC
I am surprised at the numbers too. Are you going to pin this someplace? Thanks for putting this together.

I'll probably...
do these every month or two, I guess I could start a FAQ to house them.
congratulations on your solar round-trip
Oh yeah, that's right...
today's dk's birthday isn't it. Happy Birthday dk!!
yes, it is my b'day Johnny.
Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Many prominent bloggers are already here, or seriously considering joining it.
You've done an excellent job with integrating newcomers over the past three months or so.

Thank JnH...
that means a lot coming from you, my friend.
I love seeing your cartoons over here, JnH

why are there
nothing but zeroes for June 2016? Does that mean we're not really here today? ; 0
I don't know, h...
what time is it?
why,
the time is today, of course. ; )

Stats
AWS stats generally update after midnight to capture the previous day unless you kick off a manual update. So today won't be here until tomorrow.
ahh...
so that's why hecate isn't here.
I took those screenshots yesterday so the stats for the 31st weren't included. That ups the uniques even more.
i'm
never here. I'm just a buzz in the wires.

Well, I, for one, am here, now.

the
boogie is spreading! My most favorite recent news is that Schrodinger's cat is now quantum entangled, and thus is not only both alive and dead, but alive and dead both here and there.
Thanks, JtC,
Very interesting.
Looks like for a few hours in the morning, people go to work, and work for a bit before they get back to blogging.
Yep O...
that graph pretty much coincides with my sleeping habits, or lack of!
wow!
Sure enough growth! Thanks for all your work to make it happen.

You're welcome Steve...
many of those hits can be attributed to your fine work.
Ok, so I'm trying to understand
this graph.
So I think I understand what unique visitors mean, and number of visits, but I'm not sure about pages, hits, and bandwidth.
I am surprised at how many people from outside the U.S. are reading.
Hi rand...
http://www.awstats.org/docs/awstats_glossary.html
The international stats are a big surprise, no?
Yes, the international numbers are very surprising.
I get Canada, but wtf is up with Turkey? It is a fine country, but I doubt there is quite so much interest in this site there. Is significant international web traffic routed through servers there?
Any ideas? I'm confused (more than usual).
Oh, and thanks for the great website. I feel like I am recovering a sense of community on the web, including many favorite folks from "over there". I prefer the set up here. Though I hope the site continues to grow, I prefer the size of the discussions here. An 800 comment diary might be great for traffic, but it sometimes feels like trying to talk with 1000 people all at once. Also, I really like that there is no hiding of comments and endless donut wars. Everything is much more open and much more civil (warm really) here.
Edit: I enjoy being able to edit the typos that I catch - thanks!
Peace out, tmp.
You're welcome for all...
I can't explain the Turkey traffic either. I'm constantly deleting spam accounts fro Russia, which explains most of the traffic from there, but Turkey is an enigma. I think they even block a lot of the internet there which makes it even more curious.
heh...
it might be erdogan skimming for insults.
That must be it
Well, I have written quite a bit about Syria and Turkey....
Erdogan is insane. Jails former Miss Turkey for criticizing him.
TYT had this tonight.

I think it's great that Turkey shows up big for C99. Gezi Park?
The people's uprising a few years ago showed that unrest among the young in Turkey has been waiting to pop. Same garish and destructive Neoliberal policies running roughshod over the citizenry there, with the global banking and corporate behemoths ransacking their public squares, education system, etc. Erdogan is a straight up fascist. When he's not murdering Kurds, or sending in provocateurs to disrupt protests, he's jailing journalists and teachers.
An Occupy friends of ours has been back and forth documenting the scene there. They get it, and are not ready to back down.
Solidarity, I believe it probably is.

I can explain some of the numbers for Thailand and Malaysia!
I was in Thailand for most of May and have recently returned to Malaysia. You'll see the Malaysia numbers jump some in June. And don't be surprised if Indonesia makes a mark in June as I'll be taking a 12 day trip there starting next week. I haven't been commenting profusely, but I've been reading a few times each day!

Hey, reflectionsv37!
How's the weather over there? Good winds? Cheers.
I am trying to time a visit to the River to see the Viking restoration ship sail through into the Great Lakes. Made the crossing of the N Atlantic arriving in Nfl. Norway to Hebrides to Iceland to Greenland with icebergs along the way. Only one mast failure.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
I gotta ask what are hits?
I suppose it's obvious, but if someone views six pages with 40 hits, that means we "hit" each page almost 6 times? I suppose that's more or less invisible to the user.
Hits dropped during the last 3 months as pages soared. Is that the server serving more per hit or people "hitting" each page less?
Just me trying to guess...
(and, of course, thanks so much for everything)
You're welcome petral...
http://www.awstats.org/docs/awstats_glossary.html
Guess no more!
Hits
A hit is a file delivered to your browser from the server. Those files include the page itself and all of the pictures on the page. So each page of the site generates several hits to be fully presented to you.
What he said ^^
;->
QUESTION:
A. If I have to be hit to get a present, is not that rather painful over time?
B. If drinking too much water can be deadly, does it help to switch to scotch?
C. Which sock and shoe do you put on first? And have you ever tried by just looking at a mirror and not your foot?
D. If your car's visor is either too short or too narrow to work, regardless of the time, the season, the position of the sun, or your car's direction, does that mean your car was designed for the Southern Hemisphere?
Looking great. Thank you.
(Pssst... List of counties we get traffic from)
Oops...
thanks, that does make more sense, no?
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this,
but is there a way to "follow" or see a list of essays/diaries written by one particular person?
I've tried the essay list, but it requires me to go from page to page and search for a user's name.
It's okay if there's not such an easy way to do it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a feature.
thank you.
Yes...
you can go to any user page and view their essays and/or comments. Click their username or use the user search, either using the search function at the top of the page or the search function in the memberlist.
Sorry, but I guess I'm dense.
I just clicked your user name from the comment you replied to me and I got nothing related to you, just my personal page with links at the top. And the URL is http://caucus99percent.com/user
What am I doing wrong?
thank you.
JtC is an exception,
because he is exceptional. Try my user name.
lol, that worked.
I got this URL:
http://caucus99percent.com/users/olinda
Have you written any essays? Because all I see is a link to my essays.
Yes, it should link to my essays. [edit]
It says My essays, but they're not yours, they're mine. Are they not there?
Edited to fix a horrible misspelling. Sorry, I couldn't let it go.
Eureka. Thank you.
"My essays" on your page ARE your essays. lol, I didn't click to see because I thought they were "my" essays, not yours. But they are yours.
Thank you everyone for your help. I know it took a while, I'm sorry.
You just found answers for a bunch of us! eom

I try to stir up trouble wherever I can ;)
Just kidding. I hate not understanding something with only one question and one answer, so many thanks to OLinda for her patience for walking me through this.
Everyone is good at SOMETHING.
You have found your niche.
Because ...
of a security program I use, my account is hidden.
Hmmmm....
Just kidding. I understand.
Shirley: to follow an essayist
Either go to the Memberlist link, top of left side of any page, find the essayist. Click on the member's name and his/her personal page comes up. Click on Content to see that person's list of essays.
Or, click on the essayists name anywhere you see it, continue to the essayists personal page, then click on Content.
Great work, everybody!
and Thank You, JtC

The 'Ides' have (had) it.
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Heh, yep...
thanks NO.
Thank YOU gott!
I remember when we were over at Buhdy's you were talking about putting this place together.
Great to see it come to fruition and doing so well.
Onward!
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
Hey, man...
really glad you found us too. Buhdy's been here for a while, hasn't had anything to say yet, though.
Jake Elwood:We're putting the band back together.
This place could use a Buhdy essay once in a while.
Think there's any chance of coaxing him out of retirement?
The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?
I thought about it...
but figured he'd drop in eventually, I hope. Man, that would be blast though wouldn't it?
Are we talking about BuhdyDharma??
I've wondered whatever happened to him? Really enjoyed his writing at TOP years ago. Hope to see him pop up here!
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
George W. Bush
Yes...
he joined March 8.
Thanks for that!!!
Glad to hear it! I've looked through the entire new members list, but must have missed him. Hope he becomes active here.

If you go to...
the memberlist and search his name in the "c99p username" field it will take you right to it.
Oh yeah...
his username is buhdy here.
I was just looking at Quantcast numbers
for TOP Yesterday, May 30th was one of the lowest numbers for TOP unique visitors over the past year. It looks like only 3 days over the past year had less visitors. One of those was Christmas day and I believe another was Thanksgiving day. All I can say to that is... Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
George W. Bush
I saw that earlier.
It always drop on important holidays. Only this time it is dropping lower because the site's everyday readers are getting less. It will be interesting to watch after June's primaries are done.
Great work JtC and thank you for this place.

Thanks kharma...
it's a team effort.
Holy S**t!!
When Cicero had finished speaking, the people said “How well he spoke”.
When Demosthenes had finished speaking, the people said “Let us march”.
That's what I said...
when I saw the unique visits. We're getting some eyeballs here.
Tech Curiosity
Hi,
Out of tech curiosity, how "big" is the current server in terms of specs? I assume it's on a VM somewhere, or is it a physical box?

VPS...
speed--3CPU cores
storage--120GB SAN
Ram--6GB available
Bandwidth--2TB
Cool
Docker? or similar stack?
It's really quite nice what these stacks on a VPS/VM can handle with fairly modest resources.
Thanks

Yeah...
I'm pretty happy with VPS, one more upgrade though and then we'll be looking at dedicated, ouch on the wallet!
You don't have to give up on VPS quite so soon to get power
I am having some funky weirdness here not sure if it's me or the site. But can't seem to bring up your profile to send you a private message. Every time I click on you, I get me. I have a cloud platform and could get c99 a dedicated vCloud for close to my cost. Month to month. Not sure how it would compare to what you are doing now but might be worth a chat if you want to email me at my registered address.
