If it hadn't gotten so toxic and become so readily apparent that a LOT of people there that I thought were progressive were just DLC'ers in progressive clothing it may have been harder, but those facts coupled with the fact that I had a better, friendlier community over here to chill with made it a piece of cake.

And this seems a good place to air out my frustrations with TOP. I actually hadn't been going there for quite some time.
It started one day several years ago when I was having a discussion with another poster about Confederate graveyards. I really don't recall how we got on the subject. All the sudden MB jumps in and practically called us both racists because we were discussing Confederate cemeteries. WTF? Actually I wish I'd known something about my family at the time because this could have been hilarious. Instead it just pissed me off. There was absolutely no reason for that reaction to an innocuous conversation. I left and didn't venture back for two years.
When I did give the place another go, it had gotten nuts with the ads and this Sign the Petition pop up that drove me nuts. I didn't recognize most of the names, much of the writing sucked out loud, and I was seeing diaries that were maybe two paragraphs long - lots of them. Wow, what had happened to all those wicked smart people I used to read on there? They'd also recently debuted DK 33 1/3 or something and it took some getting used to.
But I stopped in most mornings, relegating myself to the Pootie Diaries and C&J with an eager click whenever I saw something else that looked like it had meat on it. But soon the drop ins got fewer and farther in between
I missed the lead up to the Ides of March thing, but I stopped in just in time to see it. Back then I didn't know much about Bernie except to figure he didn't stand a chance. I'd pretty much acquiesced to voting for a woman that I had never cared for - not as FLOTUS not as SoS.
Right after that I started noticing the hostility blossoming everywhere. Every freaking diary on the r/h side was either about Bernie or Hillary with the attendant flame war. I noticed something else too - I didn't recognize a single diarist. I knew they'd sent out a crapload of Facebook invites, and figured all these folks were noobs. But then I started pointing at their names and.... huh? Joined in 2005? Joined in 2004? Joined in 2006? So, why have I never seen anything written by these people before? Including comments? I never took the time to check out their history because I caught the scent of death in the air.
Then I saw one day where some Hill-bot who has joined last January was suddenly a left side FPer. I thought of all the brilliant people who'd been there for years and never got that offer and that pissed me off.
Then, one day, I saw a link to c99p in a comment and dropped in for a look see. Been stopping in every day since. I can't add much to the political discussions because quite frankly I'm so friggin' burned out on politics that I could vomit. I'm 65 years old, so I've witnessed the slow and agonizing downward spiral first hand. I had high hopes for Obama. I have a hard time getting high hopes anymore. I'll vote for Bernie again in the general, but I think the fix is in.
Anyway, remember that smell of death? I've dropped into the GOS the last couple of days. Something is AFU'd big time over there. Yesterday I was trying to watch the video of that tow truck asshat and I kept hearing this gawd-awful screeching, squalling and giggling. I knew it was one of the ads that was set to auto-play at top volume, only I couldn't find it.
Just a bit ago I dropped over again to see if it was still doing it. Tonight we have a new annoyance. trying to read a diary when all the sudden the page gets jerked down about four paragraphs to another auto-run ad. tried to pull it back up and - no dice. It just kept zapping down to the same spot. Can't miss the ads! I'm on SS and the check is dinky, so I could never afford to get a paid membership. I used to feel guilty about that. Now I think I'm glad.
So the gist of all this is. It was once a great site and I've learned more there than I'd ever learned anywhere. But nothing gold can stay.
I'm just so happy that I stumbled across the link to this place that day. Thanks for letting me ramble and rant
reserving my still alive 2006-era account for an "and the horse you rode in on" post at some point in the future, as well. There are several things that will be able to trigger it- I can be patient if needed.
I'm doing the same. Keeping my powder dry, as it were. If it comes down to it, if it's Hillary and The Donald, when The Donald wins, I'm gonna let those bastards have it with both barrels. Not that it'll change anything--it's just that it would be so well-deserved, no matter how much they point fingers and say "Bernie Did It, it's all HIS fault...."

I'm not sure how many times I have pointed out that when it was the Bush administration and the GOP doing the same things that Obama and Hillary had done, the site was against it. Especially the amount of money and who it came from. But also Obama's use of drones, his illegal wars of aggression and putting troops back in Iraq after he promised not to. And the boots on the ground in Syria.
But at least he has ended two wars and hasn't started any new ones. At least that's what I keep reading there.

Supposedly a creative poet, yet can't come up with a single original reason to support Hill. She competent, I tell you, competent! And electable too!!

I keep having bits of pertinent Nostradamus quatrains run thru the back of mind regarding where we are now. One that always struck me made it sound as tho we'd be years into WWIII before anyone recognized it as such. I'll be danged if it doesn't fit this situation to a tee.
I gotta dig those old books back out again and take another look. I put 'em away after 9/11. I think I'd like to read those quatrains again, with the world as it is now as reference.
Hillary's supporters. They used to be against everything that she stands for when it was the GOP doing them.
The wars and special interests money, but look at how they tie themselves into knots when people point out where her donations are coming from. They say it isn't the banks, the corporations or any other big donation issues, they say that the donations come from the people working at those places.
They have blinders on and will be in for a big shock when she passes the TPP, privatizes social security and starts more wars including the one with Russia.

However, the "H" and "I" sounds more like they come from the quatrains commonly associated with Hitler. The quatrains usually grouped under the "WWIII" headings mention a blue-turbaned man coming out of Babylon (the Middle East), and someone with a name of "Mabus" (could be an anagram) who will be the one to ease the way for the 3rd antichrist. I will occasionally type in my browser and it pops up. I have not been there for anything (including by accident) for a week? I keep typing the address because I used to read the many different diaries. Now? It makes me angry and bitter when I head there. I metaphorically fell out of my chair when I saw a full throated defense of the TPP as a diary and the number of people who agreed with it and knew my days being comfortable there were numbered. It seems to me that the GOS has been revealed to be a community for what would be socially moderate conservatives and not progressives let alone liberals. As if economic issues are completely divorced from social issues, never the twain shall meet and woe betide anyone who approaches social injustice from the position of the economic. It is difficult to avoid it as I have lurked there for as long as I can recall (at least a decade?) and it is habit.
That is exactly what they are, and what is Hillary is - although I'd call Hillary a socially moderate neocon or neolib - not much difference to choose from between the two.

I'd spent a bit of my youth there, before it turned into a dump. It used to be a nice field where we'd play ball, run around, sometimes have a picnic. Then it became a place where people dumped their trash. It's been that way for awhile. Occasionally I think I'll go down and maybe sit on the green grass except there isn't any green grass there now. It's all....garbage. It stinks too. Tomorrow I'll try to remember it's not a beautiful field anymore. I'll try to remember it's a garbage dump.

I glance over now and then
but the nows and thens are getting less and less frequent. I like to look for diaries that have nothing to do with the primary battles, but it's harder to find them these days. I'm still reserving the right to go back and say "told ya so" if Hillary gets elected and drags us into another pointless war to prove she's Tough on Terror or whatnot.

Had some things cooking in my head for some time
And this seems a good place to air out my frustrations with TOP. I actually hadn't been going there for quite some time.
It started one day several years ago when I was having a discussion with another poster about Confederate graveyards. I really don't recall how we got on the subject. All the sudden MB jumps in and practically called us both racists because we were discussing Confederate cemeteries. WTF? Actually I wish I'd known something about my family at the time because this could have been hilarious. Instead it just pissed me off. There was absolutely no reason for that reaction to an innocuous conversation. I left and didn't venture back for two years.
When I did give the place another go, it had gotten nuts with the ads and this Sign the Petition pop up that drove me nuts. I didn't recognize most of the names, much of the writing sucked out loud, and I was seeing diaries that were maybe two paragraphs long - lots of them. Wow, what had happened to all those wicked smart people I used to read on there? They'd also recently debuted DK 33 1/3 or something and it took some getting used to.
But I stopped in most mornings, relegating myself to the Pootie Diaries and C&J with an eager click whenever I saw something else that looked like it had meat on it. But soon the drop ins got fewer and farther in between
I missed the lead up to the Ides of March thing, but I stopped in just in time to see it. Back then I didn't know much about Bernie except to figure he didn't stand a chance. I'd pretty much acquiesced to voting for a woman that I had never cared for - not as FLOTUS not as SoS.
Right after that I started noticing the hostility blossoming everywhere. Every freaking diary on the r/h side was either about Bernie or Hillary with the attendant flame war. I noticed something else too - I didn't recognize a single diarist. I knew they'd sent out a crapload of Facebook invites, and figured all these folks were noobs. But then I started pointing at their names and.... huh? Joined in 2005? Joined in 2004? Joined in 2006? So, why have I never seen anything written by these people before? Including comments? I never took the time to check out their history because I caught the scent of death in the air.
Then I saw one day where some Hill-bot who has joined last January was suddenly a left side FPer. I thought of all the brilliant people who'd been there for years and never got that offer and that pissed me off.
Then, one day, I saw a link to c99p in a comment and dropped in for a look see. Been stopping in every day since. I can't add much to the political discussions because quite frankly I'm so friggin' burned out on politics that I could vomit. I'm 65 years old, so I've witnessed the slow and agonizing downward spiral first hand. I had high hopes for Obama. I have a hard time getting high hopes anymore. I'll vote for Bernie again in the general, but I think the fix is in.
Anyway, remember that smell of death? I've dropped into the GOS the last couple of days. Something is AFU'd big time over there. Yesterday I was trying to watch the video of that tow truck asshat and I kept hearing this gawd-awful screeching, squalling and giggling. I knew it was one of the ads that was set to auto-play at top volume, only I couldn't find it.
Just a bit ago I dropped over again to see if it was still doing it. Tonight we have a new annoyance. trying to read a diary when all the sudden the page gets jerked down about four paragraphs to another auto-run ad. tried to pull it back up and - no dice. It just kept zapping down to the same spot. Can't miss the ads! I'm on SS and the check is dinky, so I could never afford to get a paid membership. I used to feel guilty about that. Now I think I'm glad.
So the gist of all this is. It was once a great site and I've learned more there than I'd ever learned anywhere. But nothing gold can stay.

rec'ing BNR and OPOL, etc. Missed doing it today and felt much better not to even go to that site. Didn't realize how much I really despise going over there until I missed one day. No more. I'm sorry not to see the good work of BNR anymore and miss OPOL's great diaries, but Daily Kos just isn't something I feel good about supporting anymore in any way.
I'm done with the place. Period. The place is a cesspool of ill will. How they expect to support the Democratic Party by creating ill will is beyond me. And also not my problem. The sooner the Democratic Party dies, the better for the progressive movement.

I'm not sure how many times I have pointed out that when it was the Bush administration and the GOP doing the same things that Obama and Hillary had done, the site was against it. Especially the amount of money and who it came from. But also Obama's use of drones, his illegal wars of aggression and putting troops back in Iraq after he promised not to. And the boots on the ground in Syria.
But at least he has ended two wars and hasn't started any new ones. At least that's what I keep reading there.

I may not have read the diary you refer to (or maybe I did, there are so many!), but I read teacherken's diary about some "famous feminist" no one ever heard of unless they read the Nation, because that's where she has always worked. Same old tired fake anti-Bern talking points, but somehow she has cred as a "famous feminist". Sounds just like another woman of privilege and probably paid by the Clinton campaign as well. Supposedly a creative poet, yet can't come up with a single original reason to support Hill. She competent, I tell you, competent! And electable too!!

This is what bothers me the most about
Hillary's supporters. They used to be against everything that she stands for when it was the GOP doing them.
The wars and special interests money, but look at how they tie themselves into knots when people point out where her donations are coming from. They say it isn't the banks, the corporations or any other big donation issues, they say that the donations come from the people working at those places.

I went an entire week without reading much of anything over there. I checked out the critter diaries for each day and that was about it. I spent 5 minutes in it this afternoon on a break, and realized WHY I didn't read political diaries over there anymore. It's like it has morphed into a microcosm of the every day world... people are not only rude... they're downright MEAN - for no good reason at all!

I will occasionally type in my browser and it pops up. I have not been there for anything (including by accident) for a week? I keep typing the address because I used to read the many different diaries. Now? It makes me angry and bitter when I head there. I metaphorically fell out of my chair when I saw a full throated defense of the TPP as a diary and the number of people who agreed with it and knew my days being comfortable there were numbered. It seems to me that the GOS has been revealed to be a community for what would be socially moderate conservatives and not progressives let alone liberals. As if economic issues are completely divorced from social issues, never the twain shall meet and woe betide anyone who approaches social injustice from the position of the economic. It is difficult to avoid it as I have lurked there for as long as I can recall (at least a decade?) and it is habit.

Heh. I used to avoid time outs by leaving after two comments
were flagged, since the auto TO hits after three in 24 hours. Can't do that now. I'm sure TOs are in my future. When they hit, I'm going to complain that if they don't want me to have so many comments flagged, I need to know when comments are being flagged. Another stupid modification, IMHO, that makes it easier for bullying cowardly flaggers to work behind the scenes.

I went to the garbage dump. Can you believe it? Garbage there!
I'd spent a bit of my youth there, before it turned into a dump. It used to be a nice field where we'd play ball, run around, sometimes have a picnic. Then it became a place where people dumped their trash. It's been that way for awhile. Occasionally I think I'll go down and maybe sit on the green grass except there isn't any green grass there now. It's all....garbage. It stinks too. Tomorrow I'll try to remember it's not a beautiful field anymore. I'll try to remember it's a garbage dump.
