The FBI called my daughter re an Isis list with her name on it
http://gothamist.com/2016/04/29/isis_nyc_art_all_whatever.php
I saw this the other day on the Gothamist and skipped right over it. This morning my daughter, who lives in Brooklyn, told me she'd gotten a call the other day from someone who identified himself as an FBI agent calling to let her know that her name appeared on an Isis list and that she needs to be careful??????????????? She apparently wasn't given any more information than that. So, my daughter who knows a judge, called him and was told to get on down to Federal Plaza on Monday morning and see if the call was for real and what to do about it if it was. So, I guess we'll know more about it on Monday. Meanwhile, its creeping me out, but she seemed calmer about it than I do at the moment.

Is this some new scam? I can understand your fear(s). Pls report back when you know more. Peace, strength.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Sounds fishy.
Govt agencies like the IRS usually send a letter. They don't call because people don't trust cold calls -- there is no way to validate the caller is who they say they are. I can't imagine an agent calling to leave a cryptic message like that.

It sounds similar
to the call I got recently. It was a recording supposedly from the IRS saying that they (the IRS) were investigating us and that we were to call a certain number. I ignored it and chalked it up to a scam of some sort since the IRS does not call you, they send a letter.
Do I hear the sound of guillotines being constructed?

It was not a recording and she has a name and she recorded the
call and plans on playing when she gets to see someone at Federal Plaza to verify that the caller is who he said he was.
If this is real I really don't think they'd put it in a letter.
???
And why not? That's how the gov. usually allays fears; by sending actual letters.

Sounds like
a new scam of some sort,I doubt the FBI would call someone with this info I'm sure they would be knocking on the door in person. However I would definitely work with the police on this one.
Better go with her.
Just in case.
There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know.
Sounds like a scam to me too. Tell her to be sure not to give
personal information over the phone. Good that she's checking it out in person. Hope everything will be fine soon. But I wouldn't really be too worried either.

The FBI would come and see her
in person, especially if they thought she was in danger. They would want to know WHY she was on that list.

First Nations News
There are apparently 3000 names on the list. The TV reporter
spoke with an older gentleman who did get a home visit, and a woman who got a call.
It sounded suspicious to me, too.
My first thought is that it's a scare scam of some type. Does she gave the phone number? Can the call be traced back? Good thing she's checking it out. If it's a scam, everyone needs to know.

Apparently the list is made up of 3000 random names but located in a certain area.
This is just weird
By all means, check with the FBI about this. 3000 random names from the same area? WTF? This sounds an awful lot like scare mongering.

Sounds like a scam
We've had some calls from the "IRS" requesting that we respond via a telephone number.
The real IRS initiates contact, if there's a problem, via an actual letter.
And why would the FBI warn you by telephone? An actual visit is more their style.

It's the new phone banking!
It's apparently real according to this article

Short version:
ISIS got hold of lists of 1000s of names by hacking some websites. The lists contain some personal info. And there is a social media app called Telegram where ISIS Jihadis hang out and are passing the lists around. No credible threats have been made.
