About the recent changes in the site layout.
Greetings folks. Real Life has pulled me away from my computer for much of the last couple of days, so I want to drop a quick line about the recent site layout changes. We lost the right sidebar on our two main pages yesterday and rather that leave it at that I temporarily migrated everything over to the left sidebar. I say temporarily because within the next week or two we will be updating the site software and all the current bugs should be ironed out at that time. This isn't the first time we've lost the right sidebar, you old timers may remember that happening a few months ago also. Rather than beat my head against the desk trying to debug the problem I took the path of least resistance and moved it all over to the left until after the update and then we'll go back to the 3 column layout. Why put myself through that when we have an update coming up anyway?
I apologize for any inconvenience that it may bring you by squishing it all over there, but it will only be for a short time.
This is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the "Comment List" that sits in the sidebar menu. It is exactly the same thing as the "Recent Comments" list only much easier to monitor. Peg it to your bookmarks and you're a click away from a much easier and more efficient mode of comment monitoring, it beats the hell out of having to scroll down the page to see the Recent Comment list. The same goes for the "Essay List". Give them a try and I'll guarantee you'll like it.
What I do is I put the "Essay List", the "Comments List", and the "My Comments" pages all in my Firefox bookmark toolbar and I'm a click away from easy peasy site monitoring, in real time. The bookmark toolbar is a great way to peg your favorite sites rather than using the regular bookmark menu, the bookmarks are all right there within eyesight and just one click away. Give it a whirl, especially if you're going to participate in the primary live blog tonight, you wont regret it.
Later, my friends.

Don't know how much...
I'll be around to answer questions, but I'll try.
Tx JtC for all the great changes; one wish if I may?
The new Comment list is just great. Now, If I may suggest something that may not be possible, but it would be really, really great to have a "Comment" button up at the right top along with "Front page, New Essay, My blog" etc. That way we could check on responses to our comments with just one click. Just a thought.
I have really appreciated all that you have done. The site is getting a lot, lot easier to use.
Thanks

Not possible...
because all of the links on your user page are specific to you, therefor a link outside of the user page would have no way of telling who the individual user is that clicks it. Sure there's a link that takes you to your user page but not to the links inside the page. Linking directly to one of the links inside of the user page can't be done.
BUT, you can do the exact thing that you are requesting by opening your "My Comments" page and then bookmarking it, the difference is instead of a link on the site itself the link exists on your browser. Ahhh, but you say that it takes several clicks to get my bookmarked page. Nope, not if you use the bookmark toolbar, then it only takes one click and you're on your "My Comments" page. Same thing, easy peasy.
you answered all the questions before we asked them
that's magic.

Ooh, thanks for letting us know about gathering for the
primary tonight! I will definitely visit then! Very nervous. I've been praying.

Thanks.
I missed the recent articles list the past few days. It's almost critical when using a mobile device.
You rock JtC!
Thanks again for all you do

You're awesome, JtC!
I had forgotten about the Comment AND Essay Lists. Great tool! I don't mind it all on the left, but that's me. I'm sure when I'm home on my iPad, I'll "see" things differently.
Many thanks for all you do for us!

Yeah, the only question I have
is how do you mange to do all of this so seamlessly? You are the man behind the magic here and I cannot thank you enough for making this place possible for all of us to enjoy! You are the man, Johnny!

Thanks for the update
I thought I was losing my mind (which is easy to do). Thanks for all you hard work and your updates- we appreciate it.
By the way, wanted to share with you my visual of your efforts with this bug (which I have used many time in my IT PM career).
Thanks, Johnny, for this good news. And for all your work.

All of the changes have been for the better,
and AFAIK, no one has had a meltdown about any of them. Wonderful JtC, once SS comes in (and I pray my NY refund), more funds comin' atchya.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Incredibly Smooth
I used to run a service back in the olden days when they were not even close to as busy as this place . . . by far. You are doing very well riding this bronc and don't let anyone (including yourself) tell you any different.
Like the wider format

Me too.
For what it's worth, I like this layout better. Just as functional, and for me, easier to read.

Reply thingies.
Everything else important appears to be present, just moved around a bit.
Reply thingies. You did it. Yay!
