I have just spent hours, yes hours, going through the comment thread at DK to poligirl's terrific Spiking the Football diary. Even now at this hour (1:34 A.M. PT) comments are still being added. I had to come up for air. Good points were made on both sides but it seemed to me that the Hillaryites, paid and unpaid Trolls, and DINOs more often used ridiculous arguments to bolster Her Majesty's case than did some of Bernie's supporters there.
As of this time, there are 138 Recs and 564 comments--and it ain't over yet. Cheers to poligirl!
For those of you who still have the stomach (and impaired olfaction), go to DK and check out this firestorm.

I looked yesterday, enough. poligirl was very patient, kudos. At some point, it's like arguing whether a movie was in B&W or color. Or both, like The Wizard of Oz.

Once a political website loses the trust of its established user base there is no way back and TOP crossed that threshold a few weeks back. The end is always quick. The place will be a desert within the next six months.
The place's current function is to suck the oxygen out of progressivism so the sooner it becomes a desert, or better still, goes the way of the dodo the happier I will be.

IMO TOP is in
a much worse position than HuffPo was. Dkos is a very narrowly focused message board when all is said and done. HP diversified before their change. They had more irons in the fire.

It's dying
One of the of things that Markos never mentions in his rallying the troops missives:
DK5 is designed to generate more clicks to read the same content. Following a fast moving thread by using the new comments box generates a page view for every comment read (test this by clicking back in a browser). That means a single diary can easily generate a hundred or more pageviews whereas before the number would have been in single figures.
I suspect that if the impact of this change alone were to be taken out of the equation the numbers would be truly horrible.
The staff really need to be dusting off their resumes (they should also thing about the downside of being associated with a propaganda rag but that is an essay for another day).

He must've gotten the idea from those abominable sites that have you click ten times for a "top 10" list.
It will be fun to watch their fall, especially with the drones that hang on to every word of kos, as if he is some great oracle. Pathetic.
Actually it doesn't really work that way...
The additional clicking is little more that a time waster for us and does limit the use of the "Back Button" which lowers the "Bounce Rate" helping page rank...
If it did indeed create additional page views you would see a huge increase in the Quantcast Visits Chart below when DK5 was implemented. There isn't one...
Those huge dips you see are Thanksgiving & Christmas the 2 worst days of the year for web traffic... Go Figure!
However it certainly shows the decline in page visits since the "Ides of March." LOL
He has dropped about 22 spots on the US Rankings... From #222 down to #244 for his hard work and dedication...

Thanks for directing me to the diary. As someone who is still on the fence about whether or not I would bring a "Hilary for President" clothes-pin to the polls in November it gave me a lot to think about.
