1st C99 Portland Area Meetup! (Updated with Confirmed Date, Place and Time)
Hey folks, this one's going to be fairly quick and fun. I've been talking with Portland area folks about a meet up for a while, and I think it's time that we finally took the steps to actually start organizing one.
So with that in mind, time to start synchronizing schedules and figure out what works for all of us. A lot of folks work, and have lives, so I'm thinking an upcoming weekend might be best. Ideally we also want to give folks plenty of time, so Tentatively I'm suggesting the first of May as a date. (5/1/2016) Not only is it appropriate as a day for the little people, but it has the advantage of being my payday, so I know I'll be able to afford a cup of coffee on that day.
As far as locations go, there's been two suggestions so far, but I'm always up for more ideas.
1st is Lucky Lab Which is fairly centralized and has the advantage of letting kids in. (I am going to have kids in tow, so that's kinda important to me...) If we go with that one, I'd suggest a noon meetup, so everybody can have their morning and no pressure to get up too soon.
The second is of course Powell's City Of Books. I suggest this one because it's my favorite bookstore in the world, and has a nice little Cafe. Once again, I'd suggest a Noon meetup, but there's more leeway with this location because they have a few more hours.
This one's totally a community essay, so any and all locations, times and dates will be happily considered. Essentially this is working out the best times for the folks who want to show up. If we can't work something out soon, we can always push it back however far wee need.
So, For those interested, please chime in with what works for you!
Edit:
Current status is a go for 5/1/2016
at Noon at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne. :
915 SE Hawthorne Blvd,
Portland, OR 97214
Look forward to seeing everybody. No need to RSVP, we can find a table that fits the group when we get there.
Any questions feel free to ask in the comments, or PM if you would prefer.

And just FYI this is a little destress event too...
for those of us who want to just relax away from the chaotic drama of the internet for an afternoon with friend.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Powell's has to be the coolest bookstore
in the world.
"I’m a human being, first and foremost, and as such I’m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole.” —Malcolm X
Quite agree. Used to like "Half Price Books"
but then I discovered my teen years in the Powell's "Gaming Novelization" section.
Anybody who still carries West End Games products is freaking awesome.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Great Idea, Deet. I'm envious.
Can I email in a cardboard cutout to sit on one of the empty chairs? I'll see if I can find the one that doesn't show me in my straightjacket, drooling.

Sounds fun...
Heh, might be a good way to open the meetup.
"Okay, and now we will do the traditional reading of those who were too broke to afford a plane ticket..."

Don't forget to leave a chair for Elijah n/t

I like Lucky Lab better than Powell's...Powell's is too crowded
both the downtown and the Hawthorne Powell's have limited seating, plus people are reading or on their computers and they won't leave!! So if we got there we'd end up standing.
Also, I could roller skate to the Lucky Lab if I had roller skates and knew how to skate.
May Day sounds good to me. A Sunday afternoon with c99ers would be great fun as we say rude things about the Republicans (that is, the Democrats) and the Republicans (by which I mean the Republicans this time).
And yeah, not too early!
Morning
Lucky Lab because although I love Powells (was just there yesterday) it's too damn crowded. Lucky Lab on Hawthorne has long tables and a huge dining area inside and out.
Thank you for doing this Det! It'd be awesome to meet new and familiar faces. We've all been through so much.

Sounds like the consensus is Lucky Lab.
Which works for me because I always like trying something new.

Washington State- I would like to attend
Even though I am not in Oregon, I would like to drive down to the meeting.
The date and time work for my schedule- it will be few hours on the road but worth it. I love Powell's book but it will be very crowded so I would think Lucky Lab would be a more ideal meeting place (however, I have never been there).
Lets get this party started!
Come on down!
There are a few Lucky Labs in the PDX area. So search for the one on Hawthorne.

Thanks!
Please keep me posted if the date, time or place does not work or is changed!
I look forward to meeting with some enlightened and engaging fellow c99ers
well at least we're engaging
possibly. Looking forward to this!
detroitmechworks, you may miss the Vancouver
folks on May 1 because it is a caucus day, or so I hear from Angela Marx. My sister and I will certainly come on May 1 to the Lucky Lab, however. It can be hard to hear one another there. One meet up there was in a back room (private room?) where it was quieter. Depending on the number coming, you might ask about that...
Speaking of Angela Marx, there is a meet up on April 30 to help her gather signatures to get her on the ballot for the WA-03 Congressional Seat. All are welcome to come! She will be most grateful for any and all help. Here are the details:

On a Sunday? Really?
That's a shock to me. I was trying to pick the day everybody was clear. However, we'd love to have you, and I look forward to seeing you again. So far nobody's said it's inconvenient... so fingers crossed.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
That's what Angela says!
I am sure she will stop by and comment later...
Regardless, Ann and I will be there on May 1. Writing it in the calendar now...

Just a quick note in case folks are watching the recent...
And miss the update.
We are go for May 1st.
Even if I'm the only one there, I'll be there.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
Well, given the time difference -
At 1500, or thereabouts, on May 1st, I will hoist a toast in your direction from the Other Portland in Maine. At that time I should be sitting in a lovely beer cafe called Novare Res; known for their 25 rotating beer taps, over 500 types of bottled bier and various other libations. (For those who love great beer, google the place - and no, I do not have any ties to them other than really liking the place!)
...retreats back to the office while grumbling over missing out on fun on the other coast...

Wish flights were cheap...
enough that you can make it.
We gotta keep at open chair for the folks that couldn't make it. Same way the Army always keeps a meal for the MIA guys, and the Jewish folks keep a chair open for Elijah. (In remembrance of our Deliverance from the land of TOP.)
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
sweet black kittie!!!
I have a "thing" about black rescue kitties always having a home in my house.
