They’re Setting Up AI Surveillance To “De-Radicalize” Classrooms In Gaza

A US-based nonprofit is planning to use AI surveillance to check for “hateful” speech about Israel inside classrooms in the genocide-ravaged Gaza Strip.

The Associated Press reports:

“A U.S. charity in Gaza is worried that teachers at its schools might stray from a curriculum it says promotes peace and tolerance, so it plans to record classroom conversations and use artificial intelligence to flag speech deemed ‘hateful’ or ‘inciting.’

“The plans laid out by the founder of the Gaza Children Village in a webinar last month have elicited ethical, safety and privacy concerns from some Palestinian and advocacy groups and at least one of the charity’s partners.

“There is no indication the charity intends to share its classrooms’ recordings with anybody else, but fears about the potential misuse of surveillance technology are heightened in Gaza after three years of war. The Israeli military has used AI to sift through intercepted communications and find suspicious speech, including to identify targets for strikes.”

AP reports that the founder of Gaza Children Village, Dr David Hasan, seeks the “de-radicalization” of Gaza and has removed from his curriculum any language that “encouraged anti-Israel or antisemitic beliefs.” Meanwhile exactly zero resources are being spent de-radicalizing Jewish Israelis, who consistently tell polls that they overwhelmingly support the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

What AP neglects to mention in its write-up is that a significant portion of the charity’s funding comes from Israeli donors, as we learn in a puff piece published this past May by Jewish News titled “Gaza school founder backed by Israeli donors says children are taught ‘we are better together’”. Hasan told Jewish News that he’s been very transparent about the Israeli funding pouring into his so-called “Academies of Hope” because it would cause a scandal among Palestinians if the information came out later.

Hasan’s operation will reportedly be using video games to indoctrinate young survivors of the Gaza holocaust into having sympathy for Israelis and teach them about Adolf Hitler’s mistreatment of the Jews, though it’s unclear how teaching Palestinians that genocide is bad will improve their perception of Israel.

So inside the ruins of Gaza an American charity funded by Israelis is going to be teaching schoolchildren not to hold negative beliefs toward the US-backed ethnostate which just destroyed their neighborhoods, killed their families, and laid siege to their entire population, and will be enforcing these standards using AI tech surveillance which will be shared with God knows whom.

Take a good look, ladies and gentlemen, because this is what they’ve got planned for the rest of us as well. Do not succumb to the delusion that artificial intelligence is being aggressively advanced because the oligarchs and empire managers just want to sell us helpful chatbots. These technologies are being developed as rapidly as possible because they want mass surveillance and autonomous weapons systems to suppress revolutions and revolutionary sentiment and keep us trapped in this capitalist dystopia forever.

It’s just amazing how quickly AI is making everything worse. It’s assaulting the environment, ruining art, turning everyone into an unthinking moron, making people crazy and suicidal, flooding the information ecosystem with fake videos and misinformation, all while rapidly making it possible for a small group of powerful individuals to control and monitor every facet of our lives using advanced technology.

This perversion of the human species is what we are being told we need to make sacrifices for in order to ensure that AI develops very quickly, as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has proclaimed.

“We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology,” Altman told Politico in a recent interview, arguing that too many safeguards and regulations will slow down the advancement of these new technologies.

It’s already bad, and they’re trying to make it so much worse.

We’ve got to find some way to stop these freaks.

Saudi Arabia further suspends flights after latest deadly Houthi attack on airport

Saudi Arabia has been forced to suspend all flights to and from its main international airport in Riyadh until next Saturday after a further round of Houthi missile attacks caused more damage and left one person dead. Some airlines, including Gulf Air and Bahrain Air, had already said they were cancelling flights until next Saturday. More missiles were fired at Saudi Arabian cities by the Houthis on Monday, Saudi Arabian’s military spokesperson said.

The Gulf nation announced it was suspending flights from Riyadh, its second busiest airport, after Houthi missiles killed 13 people on Saturday and left more than 300 injured. Saudi state TV broadcast CCTV footage that showed passengers deluged in smoke and falling masonry as they queued at the airport terminal to board a plane just as the Houthi missile struck.

An urgent review is under way as to how Houthi missiles are repeatedly penetrating badly stretched Saudi air defences. Schoolchildren and some office workers were advised to work from home. The Houthis have also targeted the city of Khamis Mushait, and the King Fahd international airport in Dammam. Interceptor missiles are needed to protect government buildings, oil facilities and infrastructure hubs across a wide geographic area. The Houthis have vowed to attack Saudi airports across the country.

A Houthi official on Monday warned the US it would receive a “painful response” if it entered the war in Yemen, following Trump’s comments at the weekend that he was “going to look at” the possibility of joining Saudi strikes. “If the US becomes involved in the aggression against Yemen, we will not deliberate over the decision to respond, rather, there will be a swift and painful response targeting the US and all its interests in the region,” Houthi political bureau member Mohammed Al Bukhaiti told AFP in an interview. He also warned “all employees and workers at Saudi oil facilities and airports to stay away from these sites, as they have become legitimate targets”.

Inside Yemen, fighting continued in and around Taiz, the third city, and the most populous governorate, with Saudi planes mounting eight separate strikes on any assembly of Houthi forces. As many as 60 fighters died on Sunday from both sides. The governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, on Sunday issued an urgent call to lift the Houthi siege and warned a shortage of medicines meant the city would soon run out of emergency surgical and intensive care services. Overall the Houthis claimed the Saudis had mounted 124 raids on Sunday. The Saudis are seeking to locate Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the reclusive leader of the Houthis, with rumours of his assassination repeatedly circulating, but Saudi Arabia does not seem to have contemporary intelligence on his precise whereabouts either in the capital Sana’a or in its stronghold of Saada.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards ‘almost certainly’ behind RAF Fairford threats, says Burnham

Andy Burnham said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were “almost certainly” behind threats to RAF Fairford, the firmest attribution of responsibility made so far by the UK after an incident late last month. The prime minister told MPs the UK would bring further sanctions against Tehran and the IRGC in the aftermath of an ambiguous episode that, despite over a fortnight of police investigation, has yet to lead to anybody being charged.

Five men from London drove to Whelford, a village next to a base used by the US air force, in three white vans shortly after midnight on 27 September. They were released on police bail a day later after no bombs or explosives were found.

However, the incident was followed by the withdrawal of 12 B-1 bombers a week later, amid reports that the US was concerned about a possible drone attack on a base it had used to attack Iran during the Middle East war in the spring and summer.

British sources have repeatedly maintained that Iran lacks the capability to launch what would be a sophisticated drone attack, but the incident appears to have unnerved the US, which is worried about the security of its bases in Europe.

Israel Has Demolished Majority of Villages in Southern Lebanon—Mostly After the Ceasefire

When Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire in April, the Israel Defense Forces’ systematic destruction of villages in southern Lebanon was supposed to halt. Instead, it was just getting started.

Israeli forces have largely leveled 48 of the roughly 60 villages and towns in occupied southern Lebanon, a New York Times investigation published Monday revealed, fueling fears that Israel intends to permanently prevent displaced residents from returning.

Rather than collateral damage from military attacks, the razing of Lebanese villages since April has largely been carried out through controlled demolitions by Israeli forces.

Nearly all the villages destroyed have been majority Shia—the sect from which Hezbollah draws much of its support—while those containing Christian, Druze, and Sunni Muslims have largely been spared.

In July, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz acknowledged that Israel had destroyed at least 24 historic Lebanese villages, describing it as punishment for their residents.

“Twenty-four Lebanese villages that were hundreds of years old—with Shiite residents who acted as enemies [of Israel] on behalf of Hezbollah and threatened our borders and our residents—we destroyed all of the buildings.”

“Not one house at a time,” he emphasized. “The entirety of those villages—their demolition has been completed.”

Since March, Israel’s military campaign has displaced at least 1.1 million Lebanese civilians, while its forces have entrenched themselves in an occupied swath of southern Lebanon extending as far as eight miles from the border.

Roughly 270,000 people remain barred from returning home. Many have no homes to return to. In many villages, homes, roads, utilities, and public facilities no longer function.

The Times found that Israeli forces have also burned about 16,500 acres of land—roughly 11% of the total occupied area—since the April ceasefire, including farmland and olive groves. Meanwhile, thousands of trees have been bulldozed.

As this life-sustaining infrastructure has come down, Israel has erected what appear to be the fixtures of a long-term military occupation: satellite imagery shows at least three new Israeli military outposts have been at least partially built since the ceasefire began, alongside new roads connecting them to Israeli territory.

The US-brokered ceasefire expressly prohibited “offensive military operations against Lebanese targets, including civilian, military, and other state targets, in the territory of Lebanon” except in cases where it was necessary to take defensive measures against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks.

Israel’s military told the Times it received no directive “to carry out widespread damage to structures or to demolish villages” in southern Lebanon. “The IDF operates in the security zone in southern Lebanon with the aim of removing threats posed by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to the residents of Israel and to IDF troops,” it added.

Israeli officials have suggested that the occupation of southern Lebanon will continue indefinitely. Katz said last month that Israel “will not withdraw from the security zone” until Hezbollah disarms.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested that some of the Christian villages would like to be annexed into Israeli territory. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, meanwhile, renewed his call last month for Israel to extend its borders north to the Litani River, which encompasses most of the Lebanese territory it currently occupies.

Israel has said it has razed entire villages to destroy Hezbollah military infrastructure and prevent fighters from returning to the area near the Israeli border.

Janina Dill, a professor of global security at the University of Oxford, has said using mass destruction to carry out this objective was “manifestly illegal” under international law, which says that destroying civilian property without an imperative military necessity can constitute a war crime.

“It’s deeply implausible that imperative military necessity applies to every house in a particular village,” she told the Financial Times in August.

Volker Türk, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, said in July that Israel was engaging in the “wholesale destruction” of civilian homes, adding that “demolition of this type raises huge flags about compliance with international humanitarian law.”

“In large parts of southern Lebanon, Israel’s ‘everybody-leave’ orders were followed by ‘don’t-come-back’ orders,” said Kristine Beckerle, Amnesty International’s deputy regional director for the Middle East and North Africa in June. “Israel’s forced displacement and prevention of return of tens of thousands of civilians from southern Lebanon amounts to unlawful transfer, which is a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and thus a war crime.”

NAZA: Netanyahu orders identification and prosecution of film’s interviewees

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has ordered the country’s attorney general and the head of the Shin Bet security service to reveal the identities of soldiers and officers interviewed in the investigative documentary NAZA and prosecute them for causing “harm to Israel’s diplomatic and security interests”. The award-winning documentary, directed by the Oscar-winning film-makers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor and produced by the Guardian, details Israel’s mass killing of civilians in Gaza. The film is in cinemas, including in the UK and the US, and will be shown in more than 50 countries.

In a letter addressed to the attorney general, Gali Baharav-Miara, the IDF chief of staff, Lt Gen Eyal Zamir, and the Shin Bet head, David Zini, the Israeli prime minister demanded they “act urgently to uncover the identity of all those who are involved or appear in the libel film”. Netanyahu also called for “the opening of a criminal investigation and prosecution for serious information security offences, criminal defamation, and harming Israel’s diplomatic and security interests”.

NAZA premiered last month at the Venice international film festival, where it won the special jury prize after receiving the longest ovation in the event’s history. It takes its name from an acronym used euphemistically by Israeli intelligence to indicate how many civilians it expects to be killed in an airstrike.

Ricardo Gutiérrez, the general secretary of the European Federation of Journalists, representing over 320,000 journalists, said: “These threats constitute a blatant act of intimidation against journalists who have simply been doing their job, in strict accordance with ethical standards and in the public interest. I am not surprised by this outburst, which confirms that this regime is prepared to do anything to cover up its crimes against humanity and the ongoing genocide in Gaza.”

Russia Declines To Comment on Trump’s Claimed Energy Ceasefire, Rejects Zelensky Call for 60-Day Truce

The Kremlin on Monday declined to comment on President Trump’s claim that an agreement had been reached between Russia and Ukraine to halt strikes on each other’s energy infrastructure, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of continuing to hit energy targets.

According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that he couldn’t comment on the “energy truce” issue at this point. “Communication is ongoing. As soon as we have something to say on the issue, we will certainly inform you,” he said.

In other comments, Peskov rejected Zelensky’s call for a 60-day ceasefire to hold elections in Ukraine, but said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was ready to order a halt to strikes on the day a vote would be held.

On Monday, Zelensky claimed that Russia struck gas production facilities in Ukraine. Russia’s Defense Ministry said that its forces had struck Ukrainian military transport infrastructure, drone production facilities, and troop positions over the previous 24 hours, but made no mention of strikes on energy infrastructure.

Hackers force French supermarket fridges to heat up to 50C in ‘unprecedented’ cyber-attack

Hackers have forced the temperature of many French supermarket fridges up to 50C overnight, in an “unprecedented” cyber-attack affecting several hundred stores across the country, with fires and food losses reported. The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Monday the large-scale attack was “affecting connected refrigerators in several major food retailers across France”. Reported damage included “food losses and fires”, it added. The prime minister, Sébastien Lecornu, instructed France’s national cybersecurity agency ANSSI to investigate, a person in his office said.

Les Mousquetaires, which owns retailer Intermarché, said about 150 of its stores had been hit, with fridges heated up to 50C for six hours. ‌It had thrown all the food away to avoid any health risks, a spokesperson said. Dominique Schelcher, chief executive of Coopérative ‌U, said his supermarkets had also been hit by the attack. “Targeting equipment essential to the preservation of fresh products and to the food supply of the French people is of extreme gravity and is unprecedented,” he wrote on X.

The attack may not have been confined to France. The Dutch supermarket company ‌Ahold Delhaize said it was also dealing with a “security issue” in its network, and had taken several systems offline to protect them. Stores of its Albert Heijn chain, the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, which also has several stores in Belgium, remained open in both countries. But its online app and delivery system were down, while electronic price tags often displayed the wrong information. It was not clear if there was any link between the French supermarket attack and the problems flagged by Ahold Delhaize.

The source close to Lecornu said ANSSI had identified a vulnerability in software supplied by ‌the Danish company Danfoss. Danfoss said it was “aware of incidents in France affecting a limited number of refrigeration management systems”. The affected units “were running outdated firmware”, Danfoss said, adding that it had “long advised customers to keep supported systems updated with the latest firmware and to migrate legacy systems to current-generation solutions”.

Federal judge orders temporary halt to taxpayer-funded pro-Trump TV ads

A federal judge has ordered Donald Trump’s administration to temporarily halt the broadcast of taxpayer-funded television ads promoting the president ahead of the 3 November midterm elections. Effective as of 6.45pm ET on Sunday, US district judge Jennifer L Rochon of the southern district of New York issued a temporary restraining order aimed at the ads that is meant to stay in effect for at least 14 days.

The administration “shall not enter into, renew, or expand any agreement authorizing the development, creation, dissemination, placement, or airing of the … advertisements,” Rochon said in her ruling. Rochon also ordered the administration to cancel the remaining portion of a $20m advertising purchase, halting further spending on the campaign.

The judge’s ruling came amid a legal challenge filed by government watchdog Common Cause, Alabama state house Democratic candidate Robert Hunter, Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ, and the union’s political action committee, Empire State 32BJ SEIU PAC.

In their lawsuit, the plaintiffs named the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Executive Office of the President (EOP) as defendants. They argued that the administration was using public funds to influence elections, stating: “In short, lacking any legal basis, and in the face of explicit legal prohibitions, defendants are attempting to skew midterm and state elections by using taxpayer dollars to run publicity and propaganda.” The plaintiffs contended that the ads were a “blatant abuse of authority”.

Rochon’s ruling on Sunday said that the plaintiffs “have demonstrated that they are likely to succeed on the merits, will suffer irreparable harm in the absence of an injunction, the balance of the equities tips in their favor, and an injunction serves the public interest”.

Death By Firing Squad

Mamdani says ICE agents who shot man in New York looked like ‘mass shooters’

The New York mayor, Zohran Mamdani, on Sunday compared US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s recent shooting of a man in the Manhattan enclave of Marble Hill to a mass shooting scene – and called for an end to the agency’s operations in his city. Mamdani’s joined MS NOW’s Jacob Soboroff for his first media interview since ICE agents shot and wounded Oscar Belgal, 28, during an enforcement operation while he was in his car with his five-year-old child also inside. Belgal was struck in the neck while the child was physically unharmed and left in the care of family members.

Describing his perspective on videos of the shooting scene that have emerged since, Mamdani told Soboroff it was unclear even to the mayor that the agents in the footage are law enforcement personnel based on their being in plainclothes. “What you can see in that video and the videos that have been released since, people, bystanders outside [are] unsure as to what they were even seeing because in that imagery – it feels like you’re looking at a mass shooter as opposed to seeing someone who is reportedly representing a federal agency,” Mamdani said.

Additionally, Mamdani contended that ICE agents “view the law as a suggestion” – alluding to how the New York police department prohibits officers from firing at someone in a vehicle in most circumstances. “There is a reason why law enforcement agents are supposed to wear identifiable information and uniforms,” the mayor also said.

Mamdani said he spoke with Donald Trump and the president’s homeland security secretary Markwayne Mullin on Thursday evening. And the mayor reiterated that he sees no place for ICE in New York City despite the mass deportation agenda that Trump has pursued throughout his second presidency. The mayor said that he made clear that New York police would be conducting a review into Belgal’s shooting and its aftermath, which saw large street protests.

Ilhan Omar says she will not be silenced after federal agents raid her home

Federal agents searched Representative Ilhan Omar’s home on Monday morning as part of a criminal investigation, according to the Department of Justice and reports in the Associated Press and Fox News. In a social media post later on Monday, Omar criticized the raid as an attempt by the Trump administration “to target political enemies and weaponize law enforcement” and said she would “not be silenced”.

A video posted by Fox showed what appeared to be law enforcement in HSI jackets at what Fox News said was Omar’s Washington DC residence. “Today in the Washington DC area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation,” a DoJ spokesperson said.

It was unclear what the nature of the warrant was. Omar’s office did not respond to a request for comment, and the White House and Department of Homeland Security referred comment to DoJ. Citing two unnamed sources “close to the investigation”, Fox News reported that the search was related to a criminal fraud investigation concerning Omar’s immigration paperwork, which her late father filled out when she was a child.

Donald Trump and key allies have accused Omar of fraud related to her family’s immigration history, fantasizing openly about denaturalizing her and expelling her from the country. When asked about the raid on Monday, Trump said he had “nothing to do with it” and the investigation is “up to the DoJ”.

But even amid a presidency known for political and legal retribution against his critics, the search of Omar’s DC home just three weeks before a crucial midterm election day will surely lead to new accusations that Trump was using the government for his own political ends. Administration officials, and the president himself, have long hinted at a federal investigation into Omar. “Let’s see what happens,” Trump said at a rally on Saturday after attacking Omar by name, adding that Vice-President JD Vance “and our people are looking at it very strongly”.

Judge halts tree removal at Washington golf course Trump eyes for expansion

US district judge Ana Reyes on Monday ordered a 24-hour halt to tree cutting at the historic East Potomac golf course while she decides on an emergency order from plaintiffs concerned that Donald Trump’s plans for the course are moving forward despite a pending court case challenging them.

“Tree removal for routine maintenance is not exempt from this order,” Reyes’ wrote. “Plaintiffs are likely to suffer immediate and irreparable harm in the absence of preliminary relief.

“The removal of hundreds of trees from East Potomac golf course is permanent.”

Reyes’ ruling came after a National Park Service (NPS) statement three days earlier that it was cutting 500 trees “that do not contribute to the historic landscape” at the course.

The tree removals come as Trump has moved to turn the course into a world-class golf venue – part of his grand vision for Washington DC, where he has torn down storied structures, remade or renamed others, and deployed the national guard since the beginning of his second presidency in early 2025.

Climate crisis is coming to crush many of world’s best surf breaks, study warns

The climate crisis is coming for some of the world’s greatest surf breaks, submerging some as sea level rises and wiping out others as classic breaks get crushed against coastal developments. Analysis of dozens of famous waves in world surfing reserves (WSR) found more than three-quarters were at high risk because of changing tide levels, hardened shorelines and shifting sands.

The impacts matter not only to the surfers catching the waves but also to the communities that depend on the multibillion-dollar surf economy, often located in places with little else. The waves rated at most risk in the study include the “bombing barrels” of Croyde beach in north Devon, UK, the point breaks at Noosa in Australia and Oriente Salvaje, El Salvador, and Santa Cruz reefs of California such as Sewer Peak and Wind and Sea.

The best surfing waves are created by intricate combinations of sea-floor shape, swell direction and tide. “Surf breaks are incredibly unique oceanographic phenomena – a confluence of all these factors that fit together just right to make the wave happen – and so those processes are really sensitive,” said Dan Reineman, an associate professor at California State University Channel Islands and a co-author of the study.

Global heating is pushing up sea level and changing rainfall patterns that affect sediment movement, which can upset the delicate balance and destroy the wave.

The study, published in the journal Climatic Change, concludes: “Climate change and coastal management both have significant negative implications for the future viability of multiple surf breaks of global significance and, therefore, the myriad distinct local communities, cultures and economies they support.”

heh, britain (burnham) says that they will defend their stolen land by force. i have doubts that the british navy is in any condition to do so. things have changed since 1982. the uk navy has declined and drones have come into being. argentina may not have a significant naval force to take back the malvinas islands, but it could certainly purchase enough cheap drones and explosives to prevent the british and israelis from setting up shop there to exploit the oil resources.

years ago that the definition of "Piracy" excludes acts committed by nation states or their employees or agents. Nonetheless, I seem to recall that the Rus recently declared such an act committed by the Brit Navy to be Piracy. Whether it was Piracy or high seas armed grand larceny, the French just committed such an act. The thing is, whether the cargo is sanctioned, or the ship, AFAIK kidnapping is kidnapping, so the ICC should issue a warrant for the whole team of conspirators, the boarding party, the helicopter crew, and the crew of the ship that delivered them to the scene.

@enhydra lutris

heh, didn't states used to issue letters of marque and reprisal to privateers who would carry out acts of piracy in behalf of the sovereign?

anyway, it seems to me that violating the sanctions of another state while not in their jurisdiction (i.e., in international waters) is not grounds for legitimate seizure. the sanctioning body would have to be part of the international legal system for the sanctions to be actionable in international waters, it seems to me.

such an illegal seizure by a military group could, i think, be considered an act of war and as such warrant a reprisal from russia.

have a great evening!
