How You Can Really Help Defeat North Carolina's Law
A fact of life. The big business in North Carolina who own the Governor and Legislature have their earnings overseas. It isn't going to work if you boycott Duke Energy. They don't have to care about the peons and trust me I live here and they don't give a damn. What I am going to give you here are the alternatives that will help get rid of the law but not harm the vulnerable. It is a win-win.
Companies headquarter in North Carolina can be found here. http://www.ranker.com/list/companies-headquartered-in-north-carolina/the...
Note that a vast majority of these companies are all over the United States so a boycott in one state isn't going to affect them. Also many of these businesses have already taken a stand against the law and are working against it. More info here. http://www.advocate.com/business/2016/3/24/businesses-denounce-north-car... Support the companies who are fighting for what is right.
I have five other things you can do to help stop this law and help the people here who are already working against it.
1. The ACLU has filed a suit against it. Give them money to help the fight. Remember they are also fighting the gerrymandering and voter suppression laws. You can find out how to give to them here. https://www.aclu.org/blog/speak-freely/fight-against-north-carolinas-ant...
2. There are a lot of businesses in North Carolina who are gay owned and supported who are fighting against this bill. Buy from them. Nothing is going to tick a bigot off more than seeing a minority business succeed. Check here and help them out. http://www.gayfriendlybiz.com/North_Carolina/128-0.html
3. One of the most important men in the world as far as I'm concerned in Reverend William Barber. He is fighting this law and needs your help. Help make his voice heard. There is more information here. http://religionnews.com/2016/03/29/moral-mondays-leader-starts-moral-rev...
4. The poor, the hungry, and the homeless are the ones being hurt by the boycott. Help them. None of your money will go for taxes and you can help feed and home the people who are being ignored in this fight. It is unacceptable to say oh well these people get hurt in a fight like this. You can fight the law and help them the vulnerable at the same time. Contribute here. http://www.homelessshelterdirectory.org/foodbanks/NCfoodbanks.html
5. Finally help us get them out of office! McCrory is in a fight that we can help him lose. Support his opponent. https://www.lifezette.com/polizette/hot-races-to-watch-north-carolina-go...
How did we get into this mess? We were making great strides in North Carolina. In 2008 we voted for Obama. One of our Senators was a Democrat. Big business (whose profits are overseas) panicked along with the Legislature. They realized that there was a huge new class of voters coming in and among them were the young, the non-whites, and the older people who still believed the 60s peace and love that we marched for then. They knew that if they didn't do something quickly more new political people from the left were going to get in and work against them. We were already getting local laws changed like the one in Charlotte.
The way to stop it was to keep us from voting. They gerrymandered the entire state to make as many "safe" districts for their cronies as they could. They passed an illegal voting rights act that made it extremely difficult to get an ID. They cut off weekend and early voting. They shut down voting places in primarily minority areas. If you want to vote you can't vote early and still get to work on time because of cut voting hours. You are too far away to try and vote at lunch and get back to work on time. You can't vote after work because they cut hours of voting. They are brazenly admitting that they were specifically targeting people who might vote Democrat.
Still a large number of us were able to vote but not enough were able to vote to keep Thom Tillis out of office. We have been working for years and now have to come up with the money to fight them court. That is going to take time and money.
This is your alternative to boycotting the entire state. With these five suggestions you can make a much louder voice against discrimination, get the bill repealed, help people working to repeal it, and help the poor at the same time. And as a bonus we can vote Pat McCrory out of office!

Great ideas, Mich.
Thanks. You really make some points that hit home.

Hey M,
I spent the better part of the 90s in NC and this bill absolutely kills me. I was there when Helms wanted to put a fence around the Triangle and keep us from voting.
I have done the following from your list...
1. Already done.
2. I haven't checked the list for Southern Season, but if they aren't on the approved list, they will be losing my monthly wine order:) (yes, I'm a Whine and Cheezer from the 90s)
3. Would love to, but I don't donate to any religion-based organization.
4. Already doing that through a friend in Chapel Hill.
5. After the next paycheck
See how easy that is? Come on, people - work the list!
