Australia should ban Facebook instead
Australia took the radical step in banning social media for users less than 16 years old.
I can see the intent behind the law. When the internet was nascent we learned about the "stranger danger" creeping around every corner. Individuals can, and did, reach out to do young people harm. But now the danger is coming from the people who created the websites, not the people who use them.
The argument is kids spend too much time online, and are exposed to harmful content. In the past not only has Facebook refused to remove bullying and threats, but as a policy it seems there is zero restriction on scams and rage bait.
The danger is inescapable if you use the internet. But the solution isn't to take social media away. You can't protect users by filtering access. It's backward. They should be writing laws that break the algorithm and/or block sites like Facebook which promote content that enrages as it engages.

There are already preliminary reports
coming out that too much social media focus/AI is affecting the human brain in negative ways. No surprise, as the brain needs physical exercise, just like the rest of our bodies. Also, the isolation resulting from humans curled up in front of their devices, surfing the 'Net, and playing video games is harming socialization skills. I keep my social media extremely limited. I avoid Facebook and TWITter-type apps like the plague (they are). Total mind control has been a prime goal for the malevolent for a long time. Important diary and topic. Rec'd!!
