Saturday Open Thread - 2/28/26: Odds and Ends
Good morning, good people!
As I read soe's ot yesterday, I marveled at how it sort of paralleled into mine this morning. It is about trying to put our lives today into perspective, contemplating that history, religion, war, economic systems, etc..., have us where we are today.I have his 84 yr old friend who comes to see me every so often at the office. I had 2 hours before clients were to show up, so we had a marvelous discussion of everything from history, religion, politics, capitalism, the medical system, cts, and music. You see, he was a violinist for the Houston Symphony Orchestra and vividly remembers being one of the chosen to play for The Bolshoy Ballet when they came to town, while I vividly remember being in the audience.
His career spanned for decades all over the US, and while in the military, he was in the official military band. During his tour of duty, he flew from DC to Viet Nam 9 times. The band would play. At all other times they carried stretchers.
Today, with all the neuropathy in his hands caused by a brain aneurysm that nearly killed him, his way of fighting old age and looming death is to lift 600lbs daily, cut trees and chop wood for his fireplace, and read 6 hours a day. And, to come see me.
I did guess his favorite conductor: Elmer Bernstein. On the occasion Elmer came to town for a performance, I met him. My future friend, of course, was in the orchestra pit.
I didn't know my friend until early 2000s.
We discussed Patton. He thought he was crazy, but such a charismatic, utterly brave man, as I do, then he told me about some of his recent study of Patton. As Patton was possibly being groomed to enter politics, he had that automobile wreck. Patton died on the ninth day. On the eighth day, Patton's wife visited him at the hospital. He told her he would be dead the next day.
Hmmm...
Things never change. But can they if we educate ourselves?

On Wednesday, JtC completes his radiation treatment, then has to make the decision of the "wait and see" approach, or surgery.

yet, but Quatar is whining that Iran violated it's territory, meaning that Iran must've attacked the US base there. All I get from the Guardian, SCMP, Sputnik and RT so far is just the basics - the zionist entity and its puppet both attacked Iran and Iran fired back at everybody involved or supporting them and a militia in Iraq has promised hell to pay meaning, I assume, attacks on all the US bases there. Iraq has been trying to get rid of them for a long time, maybe Trump will wind up doing the job for them.
Gotta get down to Farmers' market, but I anticipate the judge will be on fire today and McGovern will be out two bucks.
